  • Man, nice lifts bud - big numbers in a pretty short amount of time! Props!
  • Doing a near failure set of 20 back squats or a Dan John barbell complex gets me breathing harder and heart pumping faster/harder than any cardio I've ever done. Sitting on the thigh abduction machine however is another story. You don't need cardio if you're lifting with proper intensity imo.
  • I have this framed in my gym. I just wish she was putting up some bigger weights :P
  • This is where it's at, since Zuzana uses bodyweight/resistance exercises and I'm assuming that with your limited time allotment, you can't dedicate lifting time either. Give it a shot.
  • Are they taxing the human brain?
  • I disagree with you based on no research at all and yet will call your theory stupid and go on to tell you what I do anyway.
  • Sure there are - order Grilled Chicken Patties off the ala carte menu (tell the cashier that it's on the salad menu.) Calories: 120 Protein: 22 Carbs: 2 Fat: 2. I will often order 5-8 per meal while I'm out on the road on tour. (some McD's charge $1 some $1.50 per patty, pretty cheap protein source.)
  • Hey Lisa :) You know I've had all kinds of self-control issues, with my B.E.D. and I've learned a lot of things that have helped me through it. Of course keeping thejunk out of the house is vital, but if your family isn't on board, that's not always an option. I keep a dry erase board on my fridge and number the days of a…
  • Which organs can't be fueled via ketoneogenisis?
  • You can get amazing and quick results if your nutrition is on track, and you're lifting heavy. If you're lifting weights that are quite light and doing 15+ reps, then don't expect quick results, as you're already thin, go as heavy as you can with good form and find a plan with proper progression. I like a plan like "The…
  • While not on atkins myself, I've gone Keto for a long time and read and studied the Atkins book for my clients. I would honestly take a few hours and read the book, it's pretty sound. It's not always a super super low carb thing, there are phases, which is good. It starts very low keto, then adds in some carbs after the…
  • yeah - the "burns" here are often insanely too high. I don't know if people are trying to impress, lying to themselves or wishful thinking.... I dunno. that being said.... I track my lifting workouts as 1400 calories burned, because that's the surplus I eat on lifting days in order to have my diary look right. Maybe others…
  • I'm in too - following leangains 3200 on lifting days, 1800 on rest days - week 3 of adding some bulk!
  • Yes it all counts! btw: why all the butter hate?
  • Atkins is just like my cheesecake diet. They don't work!!!! When I quit eating a cheesecake everyday, I lost a ton of weight, then when I quit and started eating cheesecake daily again - I GAINED IT ALL BACK!!!!! Everything in moderation is what people say to justify eating junk and cheating.
  • Yep. Once again, great advice! Depending on how hardcore you want to be, fruit may be something you're willing to allow or cut it out. Personally, I found the sugar from fruit isn't worth it for me to stay lean. Everyone has to make their own decision on it, but although fruits have tons of great micronutrients, in the…
  • agreed on both counts.
  • People on this site overestimate calories like mad. I'm stunned sometimes to see people burning 800 calories in 25 minutes of "cleaning" or whatever.... not sure who they're trying to impress.
  • Everytime I'm thinking of eating an apple pie or reece's - I just reach down and grab my belly fat.... it's enough to keep me away! As for spouse - the only success I've seen in this department, is leading by example. It seems the longer one is health conscious (and proves it's not just a "phase") the other will jump in…
  • If your arms are too big, they are most likely too fat. Work on losing fat via cardio and eating better. Push-ups will not seriously add arm muscle mass. To add real mass, you have to be eating a calorie surpluss, which I'm assuming you're not if trying to lose weight. Either way, push-ups are a valuable exercise to do and…
  • I'M HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!!!!! We finished our tour today, I'm so happy! With only a few days before the 4th, I broke my streak of no diet pop and had a diet mountain dew in the car. I was driving for 6 hours and so sleepy, I couldn't rally. Should have had a coffee, but wanted cold -eh. Tomorrow's the 1st and I'm…
  • As far as goals go - no diet pop in days, since that one long long travel day Sunday. Been drinking a lot of water, my calories are way down today again, just not been motivated to eat. I'll pick it back up after my I.F. leading to tomorrow. I did I.F. from Sunday at 6pm - Monday 4pm then another from Monday 2am(ish) -…
  • Pure sugar is the devil. I agree completely Gina. Jay - that's a monster workout! I'm getting there slowly. It takes a while to build back up to heavy weights in this system, but I've enjoyed the serious form practice and greasing the groove of the lifts. I'll post up my numbers from the last couple weeks to show…
  • Hey Jay! Is the One on One ending???? Ugh! I love them! I'm on the road in Cincinnati tonight and hit a nice gym earlier. We did StrongLifts 5x5. It was a lot slower than normal since there were 2 of us, so we had to reload the bar every single set. Still fun stuff. After we jump roped for 20 min barefoot interval style,…
  • Yo guys - I'm back! Still on this tour, but got a new cell phone battery, so back online at least. Typing from my droid is tough, this will be short. Was kind of forced into taking a few rest days in a row due to conditions and time constraints on this tour, but I should be able to get in a solid workout tomorrow. I've…
  • www.LeanGains.com has tons of terrific scientific info on it. Martin is a bad bad bad man, trust what he says! 16 hour daily Intermittent Fast. (I.F.) I do it daily and have gotten more and more lean with no decreases in strength or muscle size.
  • Yo Yo Yo! Long and busy day today. I completed my morning fasted cardio today and rocked out 3-mph/10-incline walking for 30 minutes before going to play my fabulous 50's show. Came home and hit the gym before class for my Squats (135lbs now) Shoulder Press (65lbs) and Deadlifts (125lbs.) The squats are actually starting…
