  • Can you meet with a physical therapist prior to your surgery? And remember you are having surgery on your leg, not on your arms, or back, or abdomen. I say this because so many patients experience unnecessary muscle loss all over their body after surgery for one preventable reason: they are afraid to move ANY body part!…
  • Another suggestion, is to really evaluate your caloric needs. I have a wonderful history of weight loss, but had gained a few pounds from a back injury. So in my attempt to lose the weight from my injury, I cut my calories. But I recently had to increase my calories because I too stalled. It was a reality check. All of my…
  • I just had a lovely visit with my doc about this. And let me tell you, I love all of my numbers, except for one. My vitamin D is so low that as a health care professional, I was very concerned. Yes, I realize I live in the darkest city of the continental U.S., and yes this has been a very rough winter; I just wasn't…
  • I'm so glad you updated us! And I'm glad you kept looking for an answer. Just keep that in mind, and take it easy when your body says to. We really are our own best advocates.
  • satinribbons, what blood work did your doc do? It seems like your metabolic panel was fine, and I'm assuming that your cbc-dif came back fine showing that you are not fighting a virus or anything bacterial, but I'm wondering if any hormone levels were tested.
  • For now, the only thing you can do is wait for results from blood work and rest. That's not giving up :-)
  • I love PAs! And family practice too :-) Sometimes I cry at 3 x 12hrs shifts a week, but then I remember my friends who are PAs, residents, physicians, or worse RETAIL, and then I'm okay lol. To anyone who wants to be friends, please add each other! I would love to make sure this group continues on. Health care is one of…

  • This year has SUCKED for viruses! Though most of the people I encounter have had the nasty one that has lasted for 3 weeks, myself included. Ugh, it really did put a damper on my routine. I laid back, and took it slow with the workouts, not much in cardio or strength. Not much you can do but relax and rule out any other…
  • I'm glad you went to your doc. I hope they drew labs along with the ecg and x ray. Please update us on how you feel! It sucks when you try to improve your life, and then things go wrong. Best wishes Nina
  • Ok, so for working out a lot, you need to replace your electrolytes even more, and possibly increase your calories more. I would have 2 tsp a day of the So Low Salt to get both the potassium and sodium. Add more regular salt for the cardio that you do. Another thing you can be coming up against is if when on a calorie…
  • I love heavy whipping cream! And take things one at a time. Like, get the hang of not being hungry, and getting enough fat before worrying about fasting. Once you get that down, then step it up another notch. I love deli roll ups for lunches that include salami, mayo, and spinach. Easy to prepare, filling.
  • Ok, for crap and giggles, I looked into it even more: 1tsp of So Low salt is 1200mg Sodium, and 1600mg Potassium. So if you're getting your potassium primarily from this product, then yes, another whole tsp is needed.
  • Ok so 1 serving of that Low Salt is only 300mg sodium, and only 400mg potassium. You need minimum around 3000mg of potassium a day (depending on your needs, I need 3500), and for sodium, I need on keto 2000-3000mg a day or I feel like ****. Really. I know, I know, the USDA says otherwise but ask any other long term Keto…
  • It's not a carb thing, it's an electrolyte thing: The heart palpitations are probably due to low potassium for a prolonged period of too low sodium levels. I'm not sure how much potassium or sodium you are getting in a day, but they both probably need to be dramatically increased. On keto, we dump lots of sodium, so we…
  • Got Sodium should be the new Got Milk campaign :-)
  • I have one more suggestion! When was the last time you had your thyroid checked? You said it happens more when you get active around the house. Sure, it could be the beginnings of menopause, but also look into your thyroid. Usually a hypothyroid patient will complain about being cold when everyone else feels comfortable.…
  • Hey Jamcrae22! Thanks for the add :-) IM intern? Rough year lol. good luck.

  • I have to agree with you both! Losing 5 lbs on keto is nothing like the old 5 lbs from the previous macros. When I lose 5lbs now, it comes with increase muscle mass (no loss of muscle for me!), and more inches lost. That means more than 5 lbs of fat lost, more than what the scale showed. I'm never hungry, have more energy,…
  • Keto Flu: I haven't had it. I had a bad day and quickly figured out I was low on salt and potassium. So it may depend on how well you manage your vitamins/minerals/electrolytes. I find that most people seriously lack sodium and potassium. Low potassium can make you feel like your heart is racing, or skipping beats. Kinda…
  • It's coming folks. Sweden has declared that the LFHC lifestyle has not worked and are advocating a HFLC diet instead. As a government, they poured over decades of research, data, and did their own studies. Instead of ignoring science, like the U.S. did with its USDA recommendations, Sweden acknowledged and acted on it. So…
  • Okay, I'm going to use the phrase "shark week" from now on! Thanks jgreen0524! ...still laughing...
  • Welcome Bunny1177! If you need any Keto friends, feel free to add me :-) I could use all the support I can get.
  • Thank you!
  • Oh my, I know your frustration lol. I rarely eat out, or eat prepackaged meals. I use the recipe tab. It can be time consuming, but worth it if you frequently eat that meal. I find now though, that I just eat simpler things because I don't want to create anymore recipes lol. Getting lazy I guess!
  • I had one bad day, and realized that for me, it was my lack of potassium and salt. Once I corrected this, I felt so much better with in hours. Maybe I'm just lucky, or I was able to identify and correct quickly. Good luck! Don't forget to update us on how you manage this.
  • No prob! More keto buds are always welcome :-)
  • I'm in! I too need active friends.
  • I had a FABULOUS time in NYC! Not only did I stick to my diet, but I learned a few tricks and came home weighing less than when I arrived. Wow. I learned I could drink gin and tonic and stay in ketosis. I had three one night lol. A very fun experiment. Also, I had dinner at a friends place, and I brought my own food. I was…
  • Ah, they are still under the assumption that the USDA recommendations of low fat, high carbs are good for you, and/or believe that the only acceptable lifestyle is vegetarian or vegan. Switzerland has come out and declared that LFHC is not working and essentially unhealthy. Which is amazing. Slowly, maybe, marketing and…
