  • No thigh chaffing when I wore a dress at a wedding last weekend.
  • Starting to really love playing around in headstand. I am able to move my legs around quite a bit now. :) Goal by end of 2013 was to be able to do a headstand. Now, goal for July 4 2014 is a hand stand without a wall. Do I start with handstand? Or should I progress to forearm stand first?
  • I wrote a blog about it a bit ago. http://www.fitpowernation.com/3/post/2013/04/plantar-fasciitis.html I've suffered from off and on since high school volleyball.
  • One...just a Giant Rincon mountain bike. I use it a lot around town, on mtb trails, and paved trails, but would like to get a road bike in the near future when I do the longer routes.
  • I'm fat and I wear a bikini to the beach and tighter fitting clothes when I workout (and in life). I don't care what people think. Wear what makes you feel comfortable. It's no one else's concern. If they have a problem with what you're wearing, it's their problem, not yours. (just no butt-crack please! NO ONE wants to see…
  • Squats, lunges (many variations), heel raises, wall sits, sit ups...if you need to balance, use your other hand on a chair or counter. I always say no more than a finger should be touching because you don't want your hand doing the work. Do any of these exercises fast enough and you will get a good cardio workout.
  • I have one that I bring with when I go camping. I use it mostly for upper body and also some hip strengthening. It's a lot easier to carry around than a 20# kettlebell.
  • I have most of JM's DVDs. I use them more in the winter, but generally hate exercise DVDs. With any, you can do them at your own pace. Just because she does (or her friends do) 20 squats, doesn't mean you have to. If you can only do 5, do 5. You'll be doing more than if you were sitting on the couch. And you can always…
  • Going to brunch and going to movies are two things I prefer to do alone. More so in the summer, but I like to eat brunch out on patios and people watch. I usually go earlier than the "brunch" time. So, it's too early to hold deep conversations. I like to use that time to think about the day, the weekend, the week...maybe…
  • I don't pay too much attention to those fat/carb/protein "limits". I try to make sure my protein is high. And then depending on what I do that day deal with the rest of it. I have a friend who is an exercise physiologist/personal trainer. She recommends higher fat diet on non-workout days, and higher carb diet on workout…
  • I love all cheeses....I just make sure to ALWAYS measure and record it. Cheese calories add up quickly!
  • In sandwiches, avocado. I've also been doing a mix of tuna, black beans, a soft boiled egg and salsa....all in a bowl.
  • Yes, different brands. I hate chobani and oikos. My favorite is greek gods. Most of the time mine goes in my morning smoothie of frozen fruit, spinach, chia seeds, and coconut water. But I have made sauces for fish and crackers with it.
  • I had all mine out the first week of summer vacation after my junior year in high school. Awesome start. I was pretty much out of commission for a week. Broth soup, ramen noodles (now I don't touch them), applesauce, mashed potatoes. Lots of stuff overcooked...like steamed veggies. The last couple weren't so much that I…
  • I run on the street because the sidewalk stops sometimes and becomes someone yard...then starts again. I actually prefer running on the sidewalk. Sidewalks are flat. Roads are slightly angled to help with water run off. If you always run in the street you are more prone to injury (aside from getting hit by a car). I do run…
  • Soup Salad and Breadsticks. You can get a low-fat/low-cal dressing...or just ask for it on the side. I try to load up on the salad before my soup arrives. I usually get the chicken gnocchi because it's delicious. And no breadsticks until my soup arrives. Oh and a peach bellini....sometimes a tiramisu to go...if I've been…
  • Thanks. I was looking at Salomon and Ahnu too...but everyone up here wears heavy Keens or Merrells so other brands are hard to find.
  • I don't mind jeans, but my weight has fluctuated so much the last couple years that I just find the one I have to be too big or too small (actually right now they mostly all fit). And jean shopping is just too frustrating. I bought a pair of the Athleta brand Bettona Boyfriend Pants a couple years ago. They have become a…
  • Yogi brand Throat Comfort is my favorite flavor, regardless of throat condition. I also love their Kava Blend.
  • Yep, this. Any kind of plastic bottle that seals will work great. Keep the cooler closed and in the shade as much as possible. Keep the things you are eating later near the bottom. I've even cooked everything the first night then put it back in the cooler to be reheated later. Half the fun of camping is cooking each meal…
  • Big Water Bike Ok, not a movie or a book...yet. But they biked around the great lakes last summer and are trying to raise money right now to put all their pictures, videos, and memories into a documentary. They stayed with me one night on the home stretch. It was very cool to hear about their adventures and the people…
  • I sweat buckets and wear a headband. I actually will sweat through two regular Buffs on a couple hours hike in the summer. My headbands after the gym are soaked, but it helps a lot!!
  • When I was first getting started running (and I'm feel like I'm still getting started) I would set an alarm on my watch for 15 minutes. I would walk/jog/run whatever I could do the hardest for 15 minutes, taking different streets, whatever....then when my alarm went off, I would go home via the same roads I left. Instant…
  • I make pizza almost every day for lunch! I use a whole wheat tortilla, spread about 1/8 c sauce, top with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, ground turkey, tuna, chicken....a combination of what I have and what I have cooked... top it off with 1 oz of shredded cheddar, pop it into the toaster oven for about 10 mins...slice, and…
  • I tested a few different ones. I decided to get the Polar FT7. The chest strap is a more accurate reading than some of the wrist ones. I didn't want an expensive pedometer (like a FitBit or Pear Sport). HRM are only really accurate in calorie counting if you are doing steady state aerobic exercise. I like to get an…
  • I've been on the pill for about 4 years. I've gained weight and I've lost weight, so I don't think it has anything to do with it. It has definitely kept me more "stable"...I was never unstable, but the hormonal ups and downs have gone away. Sex drive is a little lower, but not significantly. I do the periods every three…
  • I'm in Ashland, WI...and get to Duluth almost every weekend (where my family and friends are). I also frequent the twin cities, "the range," and central WI.
  • Headstand!! Also, actually looking forward to running to the gym and back...never going in the gym. I have a mile race on Sunday, will be interesting to see how hard I can push...and hopefully beat last year's time!!
  • Biofreeze, bengay, icey hot, flex-all...all those topicals are just that - topical. They may feel good, but they don't do anything for swelling.
