  • Not sure about that... maybe someone else has an idea?
  • Yah, don't trust those darn calculations. The machine typically said that I burned about 600 calories for an hour (with my weight and age entered) when I wasn't really elevating my heart rate all that much, but once I got a heart rate monitor the same effort for an hour burned only about 300 calories. BIG disappointment.
  • I have the FT4 and I love it so far. I was kind of bummed when I found out it doesn't let me change VO2 max, but I think the calories burned read-out is pretty accurate. It is usually WAY lower than the elipitical machine tells me - even by as much as half when I'm getting not that heart rate up.
  • The biggest change I've made with full fat vs. lite was the type of cookbook I use. I've switched to using cookbooks that are for health-conscious, heart healthy, or low calorie meals. I love Cooking Light. I always look for the recipes that don't use a lot of lite substitutes but maybe use ingredients in a different way…
  • We're leaving from Miami and stopping at San Juan, St. Thomas, Grand Turk, and Nassau. Thanks for all of the support everyone, stay motivated and you can accomplish anything!
  • I definately get into ruts with my eating, it seems I eat something over and over until I'm sick of it and then have to find something new. I try to add variety with snacking. Any crunchy vegetable, sometimes with a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese. Pistachios are also a good nut to try - I find I eat fewer of them because it…
  • have you tried taking classes at your gym? i pretty much stopped working out because i was getting incredibly sick of it but my friend forced me to take a "body works" class with her - it included some cardio but it was mostly weight training with dumbells. it totally kicked my *kitten* into shape and i LOVED it. it was…
  • Thanks for all the suggestions! Can't say I've ever considered RI, but now I'm intrigued  The cruise you're talking about is actually one that is on my list right now - I haven't been to Panama yet. In Costa Rica, you MUST go cave tubing -- best.excursion.ever. www.cave-tubing.com was the best tour if you are brave…
  • i'm in the week before my TOM and i magically gained 2 pounds. lucky me i get to go up north this weekend and have to be in a swimming suit. ick.
  • wow... i am amazed at your exercise routine! great job! do you wear a heart rate monitor to track calories burned, or do you use the machine counter/mfp exercise entry? i was thinking that because you are exercising so much, if you're not sure the exact calories burned you could end up with a big discrepancy between that…
  • excellent with angel food cake if you have to bring a dessert somewhere - light(er) but no one would think twice!
  • QUOTE: A slight lactose intolerance or pre-diabetic report from your new doctor (Dr. Bunbury) can go a long way If you have lactose intolerance anything with cream or butter will be out of the question for you and nothing sugary or with ultra carbs if you're pre-diabetic. You could report this sad, but not life-threatening…
  • my best friend used to have major issues with bm's (wouldn't go for days) and she tried a variety of things that never worked. she finally tried papaya tablets and had some good success with it. maybe it's something to talk to your doctor about...
  • just made this lower calorie banana bread - it was pretty decent. of course not the same as the old banana bread recipe i used to make with tons of sugar, butter, and crisco  kinda icky when i think about it now... http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=549764
  • Chili! I just made a great one from the Fresh Food Fast cookbook, but you could search in any recipe website and find lots to choose from.
  • Just made the MOST EXCELLENT chicken tenders last week - recipe was from the Cooking Light Fresh Food Fast cookbook. I don't recall the exact measurements, but you dip in low fat buttermilk, then in panko breadcrumbs with salt/pepper. Pre-heat baking sheet and then spray with cooking spray, also spray chicken tenders and…
  • Salmon filets brushed with EVOO and your favorite seasoning on top tin foil (fold up the sides to make a "boat") over the campfire/campstove. YUM! Cook until flakes easily with a fork.
  • I agree water is better, but I believe Mythbusters (on Discovery channel) busted quite a few of the Coke myths... it's been a while since I've seen the episode but double check before you pour coke all over your favorite shirt
  • Cheerios with milk and a sliced banana on top... maybe some Splenda or sweetener as well.
  • and i'm supposed to go here for lunch with friends on sunday. uh oh. pre-mfp i used to love the shrimp and bacon club with fries... 2217 calories. whoops!
  • we LOVE ground chicken for burritos... but we also make enchiladas - cook gound chicken with seasoning (or we have also used the cut up cooked chicken strips), wrap in a tortilla with whatever else you like (we usually do black beans and a few veggies), bake at 350 for about 10-15 minutes. Add low fat cheese to top, bake…
  • Have you tried ground chicken? We also hated the ground turkey, but I like ground chicken better than beef!

  • Same for me - before mfp, I never really realized how many calories I was taking in. Now I simply track what I'm eating and am becoming more aware of what I need to cut back on and how to control my portions. I haven't necessarily stopped eating any of the "unhealthy" stuff I was eating before (well maybe a few things),…
  • I agree as well with "everything in moderation". That is true for so many things. I just did a bit of research about aspartame on my lunch hour and found this on mayoclinic.com: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the following low-calorie sweeteners for use in a variety of foods. The FDA has established an…

  • Thanks for all of the info everyone... seems like I wasn't the only one confused  I drink coffee in the morning and need a bit extra caffeine at lunch, hence the diet soda. I work in a school with an almost constant stream of children at my door so I rarely have time to even finish a whole can, much less make some…
