  • Most of your mileage should be at a comfortable pace. I consider myself kinda fast but am doing most of my runs at 9:30 to 10:00 pace. I have one faster run (or intervals) per week plus some hill climbs tacked at the end of one of the slow runs. You can use your 5K time or another race time to calculate training paces.
  • I'm just getting into marathon training and what keeps me going is having a smaller race about once a month to look forward to. Some are just for fun and some are taken seriously. I run with a group three times a week for shorter runs but I'm going to go against the grain here and say I prefer my long runs alone. I won't…
  • Last night - another hot & muggy group run: 5 miles @ 9:30 pace. Looking forward to the cooler weather coming tomorrow! Tonight I am finally back to track intervals after nearly 2 months of easy runs. My coach hasn't had them in my training plan but now he is adding a track workout every other week. The weeks in between I…
  • That's darn good!!
  • Nice job!! Congrats on the first 10K!
  • Just got back from a group trail run but my wife & I just hiked the trail. No running was on the training schedule today and it was nice to get out and walk. But we still treated ourselves to doughnuts afterwards with the group (can't miss that part!). Yesterday we had the 6th trail race in a series of 8. It was a 3.5 mile…
  • Way to go Romy!! That's awesome! Yeah if you can finish a 10-miler you can definitely finish a HM. Go for it!
  • HaHa - I wear them on all trail runs because the poison ivy around here grows like crazy and lines the trails. For long runs I have found the sleeves helpful for my calves. They feel better the next day. My favorites are 2XU sleeves but I also have some CEP full socks that are pretty good. I started out with Zensah but…
  • I would take 43 right now. Yesterday it was near 90 when we had our group run. So much for spring.
  • Thanks for the report on these. I've been considering getting some when it gets closer to the fall. Got my first ultra at the end of the year and will probably do more in the future.
  • Yeah, stupid me did 3 miles. No fever before the run but by the time I got home it was 102°. I totally rested Thursday & Friday and felt 100% better Friday. Saturday morning I did a slow 3 miles and felt good.
  • Way to go!!! Congrats on your first HM! That's an awesome finish and it looks like you had fun. Great job!
  • I hit 100 miles for the first time in April so I would like to do a little more in May. Already off to a bad start skipping a 5-mile run due to a cold & fever. Other than that, just following my coach's training plan and doing the slow buildup for marathon training.
  • I'm not getting off to a good start. I'm skipping my scheduled 5-mile run today due to a bad cold. I ran the past two nights and each time my temperature would spike up to 102°. Going to rest a couple of days and hopefully get over this thing!
  • I run trails quite a bit for training and races. For longer runs and rough/rocky trails I really like my Montrail Bahada's. They have enough cushioning & protection for rocky trails and my feet don't get too beat up. They are also pretty breathable for our hot summers. For shorter runs and most races I wear the ASICS Fuji…
  • Nice intervals there John!! Last night was a hard 6 miles at 9:35 pace. It was humid and I'm fighting a cold so it didn't feel that great. And my legs were sore from Monday's gym workout. I tested a prototype Saucony shoe that did not feel good at all. Good thing I only ran two miles in those before coming back to change…
  • Feel free to add me!
  • Thanks for the invite Stan! Hi, I'm Tim. I've been running since December 2012, so almost 1-1/2 years now. I'm 44 and live in the Atlanta, GA area. I run a lot of trails - probably about half my races are trail races. I ran my 3rd half marathon a little over a week ago in 1:46:30 - a big PR for me. My main focus this year…
  • Great job on your first 10K!!
  • With such a long time between runs you are missing the benefit of one continuous long run. But it really depends on what you are training for. There are certain physiological things that start to happen at around 90 minutes of continuous running. Those are the things you need to train your body to handle for 15K, 10-mile,…
  • I would not worry about a walk break during a longer run. Still a long run in my opinion. Classic interval training is typically some sort of defined distance at a defined pace repeated "x" number of times. What you do in between is up to you. Sometimes at track workouts we jog one lap around the track in between speed…
  • Suzanne nice job on the trail race, sounds like fun! I love trail races and have a few more coming up this year. Today was a nice 8-mile long run. Yesterday was a short 3-mile easy run. This coming week is pretty much a duplicate of last week except my long run will be 9 miles. Slow and steady buildup!
  • Great job!! That's making progress!
  • ^This Do those things and fat loss will follow. But it is also affect by your macros. I lost fat to a certain degree then it stopped. Reducing carbs a little helped lose more fat.
  • Yep, the warmer weather is reminding me to drink more fluids. Had a headache after yesterday's run. I'm not quite used to running with temps in the 80's yet. This week has been hard after last weekend's half marathon. My legs are still a bit tired. But I managed 3 decent workouts so far: Tue: 5 miles moderate pace Wed: 3…
  • Not crazy at all. I was planning on doing a 50K a couple of month before my full marathon but for some reason North Face decided not to come back to Georgia. I signed up for a 24-hour ultra which will take place one month after my marathon. It's a 5K loop on a trail and I know it's monotonous but several of my running…
  • I've been through a lot of hip pain last year. It took months to get over it but what helped the most was regular hip & glute strength exercises and stretching. And I had an imbalance in my hips that still exists today but it's slowly getting better. Hard to say exactly what's causing your issue without knowing more info…
  • That was a great moment. I watched the finish line webcam for hours and it was so inspirational. Lots of people being helped across the finish, and many more collapsing after crossing. Some had to be carried across in a wheelchair and even a few on a stretcher.
  • I run a lot of trail races which are odd distances and each trail is different, so in those cases it's all about placing. When I run a traditional distance road race it's usually a big event so placing is not usually possible. In those cases I am chasing a PR.
