November Goals
It's a new month! I liked the previous post about October goals so I thought I'd carry it on. What are your goals this month? For November, I'd like to: 1) Continue building up my mileage to a 12-mile long run 2 weeks before my first half marathon 2) Add a weekly speedwork session at the track (with the running group) 3)…

Down but not out
Yesterday I finally saw the sports MD about my hip/groin pain. X-rays ruled out anything wrong with the joint itself - all looks perfect. The MD felt around my groin and inguinal canal as I coughed - but nothing too obvious that would indicate a hernia. He had me try to squeeze my knees together as he pressed back with his…

First 10K - the largest 10K
Today I ran my first 10K which also happened to be the largest 10K in the world - the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. 60,000 runners take part in this race every July 4th (and many more apply but it's always limited at 60,000). Sadly my wife could not run with me due to a sprained ankle, but she will be back up and running…

Feel sad when you can't run?
Anyone ever get a little depressed when you can't go out and run? Usually nothing stops me from getting out but yesterday the combination of storms, flash floods, and a lot of shopping kept me from doing my usual Sunday long run. I was hoping to hit 5.5 miles yesterday and now I feel like I set myself back a week. Guess…

Ran five miles!
Today my wife & I went for our monthly visit to Stone Mountain. We always get there very early and start the day by hiking the 2-mile roundtrip trail to the top and back. Then we go out for a run on the road that loops around the mountain. I've never been able to run a complete loop without stopping but today I did it - a…

Starting Over
Well I'm back into the C25K program after taking 5 weeks off due to tendonitis (PTT). Going to take it slow and follow the program from day 1 and not push it. Last time I did this I started in December, skipped weeks 1 & 2 and was up to running 5K in 4 weeks. That's when the pain started but I kept running to be ready for…

Week 6 Done!
Just finished my W6D3 run and set a personal best 5k of 26:29. The past couple of runs I just started running and didn't stop until I reached 5k. When I started C25K I was thinking I would happy with a 5k time under 30 minutes at my first race on 1/19/13. Now I am shooting for 25 minutes! I'm going to keep challenging…
