  • That was awesome. But I'll still take 600 pounds of flesh and bone at up to 20 mph over 3000+ pounds of steel at 30+ mph.
  • I always went in bare feet, but if I recall correctly socks would work. It's nice that you are concerned about your fellow attendees. I recommend getting your own mat (that also protects you as well).

  • The advice here is pretty good. From what I've read on the research there is no clear method of interval training that is best. From what you write, I might advise increasing the intensity somewhat. Dr. Tabata's method calls for 20 seconds of 170% vo2 max effort (i.e full out) with a 10 second rest for 4 minutes. Others…
  • TheFunBun is correct in saying that it measures body heat, moisture, and movement (http://www.bodymedia.com/More-Details). The Sparks link you provided later is a good one. But she is doing cardio in this case so it doesn't apply. In theory, body heat should provide a better measure, but the system does not measure heat…
  • As many people here have said, lifting weights is a good thing. You can even get most of what you need through bodyweight exercises. That being said, I'm still a little worried with the way you worded your message. It does sound a bit like there might be a body image issue there. Gorgeous, depending on how you define it,…
  • I've seen stuff on youtube even. Not having a spin cycle I didn't delve too deeply.
  • Perhaps a warm up would help? Some calisthenics and stretches to get the blood flowing?
  • I took some pilates at a climbing gym I once attended. It's an interesting add in to the fitness regimen, imo. A great deal of focus on the core and it will improve flexibility over time. I wouldn't replace much of anything with it though.

  • Yeah, you can get away with head phones, but it is a risk and distraction even on a bike path. Even with one ear out you're less able to hear faster bikes approachiing. No help with the trailer, but I doubt she's going to need therapy when she's older just for having to spend a few minutes a day sitting by herself.
  • Hi XtyAnn17, muscles and the body need rest. I have seen 1 rest day a week recommended for runners while weight lifting regiments focus on just 3 days a week. On the other hand I've seen loads of variation on this and seen reports of real results of breaking the rules. If you're comfortable on day 7 with having another go,…
  • I'm with you. No money for a gym myself. As others have said, there are lots of bodyweight exercises out there you can use. It's also possible to put together some home equipment. A lot depends on whether you want to build muscle or strength or performance or some sort of combination. I don't think I agree with the excess…
  • Hi Initsch, I put together my exercises out of a variety of sources and vary it over time according to my goals and level of interest/boredom. One site I found really useful for getting the basics is this: http://www.exrx.net/index.html Also, I wouldn't worry too much about building muscle. To build a large amount takes a…
  • Cardio fitness takes longer to kick in. Still, it could be that some parts of you are waking up again. I have found that after slacking off for maybe a week my body gets into a slower mode and is reluctant to get moving again. But after a day or two it comes right back. Or it might simply be that you were tired and not…
  • I find kettlebells are a fun change from the usual and a good overall workout. I got most of my info on various websites, including youtube. Make sure to focus on form in the beginning. Make sure to work in the Russian get-up and Russian twist into your regimen, great for the core and balance.
  • My chocolate lab let me know she wasn't ready for the full distance by simply lagging on the home stretch. So we simply finished up with a walk and built up to it.
  • Seeing as I'm not young, attractive, or female I've never gotten that, though I hear about it all the time. Not that it excuses his behaviour, but he may just be lonely and not know how to converse respectfully. If something like that happens again, with him or some other schmuck, I would recommend not looking sheepish,…
  • Hello Alliegorge, I agree with Limajuliet that 2.2 kg isn't much. But it can add a little. Just for giggles I followed D. Richards on Body Electric for a show, thinking it would be a breeze. But evidently holding up ones arms for 3 whole minutes even with light weight can be a bit challenging for someone not really in…
