No, you do not have to lift barbells, dumbbells, or use RT machines if you do not want to. There is absolutely no reason why you need to lift *A* weight to strength train. You do have to lift weight, but it can be your own, or you can use bands for RT. I'm not sure why some people in this thread are telling you that you…

This thread makes me hungry.

Hi there!

I often work from 2pm to 10pm and I've never eaten a ready meal. I just make a salad with some sort of lean, already cooked protein like light feta, turkey, tofu, etc., tons of veggies, and possibly some chickpeas or lentils. Those meals are soooo full of preservatives. Someone else here suggested maybe eating your main…

We had it tonight with roasted butternut squash and fennel. It was fantastic! We just added some cumin and chili powder.

I've never run, although I've wanted to- my knees don't. Success without running? I think that is very doable. The thing I would question is success without resistance training :)

West London here, anyone- feel free to add! xx

I know that when I was bigger (and I think I had a prettier face back then!) I realized that taking 'but you have such a pretty face' as an insult said more about my own feelings and self-esteem than about the words that were being said to me. Those words made ME think, 'but I'm so fat'. No one else- just me.

Maybe a bit, but why would you want to? In my opinion (ok, and it is that)- going to the gym and not lifting weights is like going into a garden filled with beautiful, delicious fruits and vegetables from the world over, and choosing a small white potato. Um, I'm not sure that analogy works, it's early. But hopefully you…

I've had my first inductions at the gym I'm working at. They've gone really well- I've taken a lot of what you all have said into account, especially about keeping records. I'm loving what I'm doing :)

The key also, beyond the shopping list, is to have some idea of what you will do with the items. Plan meals out, so that you get the most value for your money. I try to use every single thing in my house and let nothing go to waste. Of course it doesn't work 100% of the time, but I've gotten fairly good at it. If you just…

Depressing BMR, as usual, but great tool. Thanks so much!

That's how they refer to it here in the UK- sounds a bit weird at first, and not really accurate at all, but you get used to it ;)

When's the bar fight?

Do you just mean hard alcohol? I don't think pairing wine or beer with food is pointless at all. A curry and an IPA or wine and fish, etc. - fantastic! Also an aperitif can be really nice. For me, I don't understand people who drink just to get drunk, but hate the taste of alcohol. Then you end up with all these weird…

I think the danger is that you start becoming a bit addicted to the numbers and some people lose sight of the ultimate goal of better health. The fact that you're asking the question at all makes me wonder if you also think it might not be the best thing for you. You could try putting the scale away and just getting it out…

Wow, I must need a cup of tea, because that took me several minutes to figure out :ohwell:

To everyone who has said, 'hope this helps'. IT DOES. I want to know what you want or would want from your trainers. Of course I realize I can't be everything to everyone, but getting a sense of what people are looking for- well, mostly whether I'm on the right track or totally off-base about it- helps a ton. I was a bit…

Any suggestions welcome, jnero!

The sales pitch part is the part I hate the most, and is probably a weak point of mine- I do realize I have to market myself, but I know how I feel when people are trying to sell hard to me. I need to work on it though- it is important in this business, whether I like it or not. The grandchildren comment is totally out of…

Wow, you guys sound like you would make some pretty great clients, too. I love to see all this enthusiasm for lifting heavy! The quoting system on MFP leaves a lot to be desired, so it makes it a bit difficult to respond to everyone, but I'm getting so much great input here. The measurement of progress thing is so…

Kernel Brewery here in London!!! I have yet to try one of their beers that wasn't totally amazing- http://thekernelbrewery.com/ I'm from the US originally, and I'm getting nostalgic (and thirsty) reading about some of my lovely old favorites- Bell's Oberon, Vanilla Porter, 312, etc...

People are inspired by many different things- I guess the key is to listen, even when people are disagreeing with you. Maybe especially when they are disagreeing with you...
