I wondered if it was because the other commentators always defer to him. "Michael, what do YOU think?" They don't care so much what Lalas thinks.

LOL! The rest of them are falling all over themselves trying to get Ballack's attention and he is so supremely indifferent. I wonder if they've asked for his autograph off air....:D Ballack is a legend. That's all there is to it. I like Lalas usually, but he was talking out of his backside today. "Spain isn't worried."…

I read an article (can't remember where) in which the author (who was a scientist of some sort) recommended 2 weeks at maintenance every 3-4 months. I haven't tried this yet, but I plan to do it this summer just to see if it works. I figure if I try it and it doesn't work, I'll have only lost 2 weeks, which is a complete…

There are diets out there in which you don't count calories. South Beach springs to mind. But instead of counting calories, you'll have to give your attention to carb cutting...and I personally think calorie counting is easier.

There are a few things that I do (I have a sweet tooth too). Werther's sugar-free candy. I think it's like 8 calories and they're really tasty. Another thing I do which feels a lot like a for real actual dessert for under 200 calories - angel food cake, fresh sliced strawberries and a couple of tablespoons of fat-free cool…

Ah, but in weight loss, faster isn't better. If what you are doing leaves you feeling healthy and satisfied and you are still losing weight then what you are doing is EXACTLY the right thing.

The single best thing you can do for long-term weight loss is to find something you can literally live with. Forever. Because if you feel too much deprivation, there is a high likelihood that you won't keep the weight off. It is, in short, an exercise in futility. I suppose there are people who are capable of cutting out…

Don't look at the scale...at least not yet. Today is a new day. Go back to doing what you were doing before. Log all of your food and NEXT week step back on the scale. Don't worry, 2 days isn't going to completely derail everything you've done. You can do it!

I have tried this a number of times. I cannot maintain it. I measure carbs to monitor portion-size (because I really like them and I'd over-eat if I didn't) and enjoy them daily. I like fruit. I like rice and I like bread, so I have them. I realized that I need to eat in a way that I can do for the rest of my life.…

Perhaps a better way to ask the question is "how can I burn off more calories". I had a scientist friend of mine say that one of the best ways is to make oneself uncomfortable temperature-wise. Your body uses calories to regulate its temperature. If you let your body take care of heating and air conditioning (so to speak)…

This thread is GREAT! :D

:) Do yourself a favor. Do NOT get on the scale until NEXT Monday. You did not gain 8 pounds eating 1/3 of a portion of linguine and two of those EVIL (there, I said it) Red Lobster biscuits. You would not gain 8 pounds of fat eating a dozen of them. Don't let the disappointment de-rail you.

Cheez-its have 160 calories for 27 crackers. There are 13 servings in a box of them. In order to gain a single pound, you would have to consume a couple of BOXES of them. Don't worry about it. One cheez-it binge is not going to de-rail you. Just set aside the guilt and go back to doing what you were doing. It's a blip.…

I've taken Alli before. Weight came off slightly faster, but it was NAS.TY. It wasn't worth it for me, since there is NO WAY I'd be able to stay on it indefinitely. And if you don't change the way you eat, the weight will come back on.

I did as well. I went from 1200 to 1440 to 1560. The only time I didn't lose was when I was at 1200. It's counter-intuitive. I was scared to do it, but for me anyway it seems that if I want to work out, my body burns fat better when it has a bit more fuel.

I always go with fitbit. In fact, I never use MFP calories as they are always high compared to the read-outs I get at the gym, etc...

I have an occasional glass of wine. And by occasional, I mean maybe a glass a week. I know it's not good to drink when you're trying to drop pounds, but I figure once a week isn't going to hurt anything.

People can be so damned rude. UGH. DUMP 'EM!

Carbs? Love 'em! :) I have carbs at every meal. I try to make them of the whole grain variety, and I definitely do limit portion sizes. And sometimes "carbs" just means fruit. Sometimes it's grains. Sometimes both. For instance, for dinner, I'll have a small amount of potatoes or a half cup of couscous. I've done very…

I would suggest starting with tilapia. It is relatively inexpensive and mild in flavor. I usually bake mine, sometimes with a little brush of olive oil, some freshly ground pepper and a touch of fresh lemon. I like to serve mine with couscous, steamed veggies and fruit salad.

The body is a fascinating and incredibly complex machine. If you are asking whether or not you can live on 600-800 calories a day, the answer is yes. People survive famine on a lot less than 800 calories a day, because above all else, the body is designed to survive and it will become painfully efficient in how it uses…

cut back on salt intake. It'll keep you from retaining water.

It depends on what you mean by "eating more". 1200 calories wasn't working for me. I wasn't gaining but I wasn't losing either. I upped it to 1440 and I eat back a few of my exercise calories. The weight started coming off again. So...sort of?

First, congratulations on your loss. This is what I do. All of my in-between sizes come from thrift stores. When I go I buy one thing in the size I'm currently in and one thing in the next size lower. That way it feels like a treat when the smaller ones fit...and you're only out a couple dollars that way.

My GP told me if I wanted to lose weight to just take Alli. I did. *shudder*
-
My calorie goal is 1430. Sometimes it's a little less (about 1200), sometimes more if I work out. I don't eat all of my workout calories back. Usually only a quarter or half of them.
-
I don't know where you live, but eating nutritious foods costs WAY more here. Like 25-50% more. Try buying berries at the market.

Cake is my absolute favorite thing. I LOVE it. When I go to a birthday party or some other place that has cake, I work out extra that day and enjoy. It gives me a feeling of control and it really is such a treat for me.

The fellow that wrote the South Beach Diet claimed that you couldn't tell the difference. BALONEY. IMO, it's a good way to ruin perfectly good cauliflower.
