  • That "poor" advice is what worked for me. I lift heavy 4 days a week, do minimal cardio, and eat more now than I ever did on previous attempts to lose weight. I now am wearing the smallest size clothing of my entire adult life...
  • I work third shift hours and exercise in the morning, which is technically right before bed for me. I don't have much time for anything else, and that's what works for me. I think it is definitely going to vary per person, but there is one thing we will all have in common. We lose weight when we do the exercise at times…
  • BIA scales, even the expensive ones, are horribly inaccurate. Things like differences in hydration on different days affect their readings. At the very least, I would invest in a cheap pair of calipers to measure body fat, or even use the Navy method. All of the above are going to be inaccurate, but at least with the…
  • It depends on a lot of factors, but mainly what your deficit is like right now. I raised my calories to around 1800 because after determining what my TDEE really is, I wasn't eating enough. I now eat between 15-20% less than TDEE whereas before I was eating around a 40% deficit and didn't even realize it. However, someone…
  • Because I feel like it. Get over it. Your approval is not needed.
  • I have Ben & Jerry's in Phish Food, Cheesecake Brownie, Chunky Monkey, and Late Night Snack.
  • I checked out the other program from Lyle McDonald and really like the looks of that one. I think I might be giving that one a try within the next couple of weeks, only I will be doing what the FAQ says and reducing the volume. I plan on keeping the frequency the same, though. Then, when I move into bulking in the winter…
  • Yeah, I don't do that muscle confusion crap, I just don't want to get bored.
  • Thanks, SideSteel! I will save this one for later when I start bulking and continue with what I am doing until then. I'll look up that other program as well, just in case I get bored with what I am doing now. I like the way 5/3/1 is set-up, but doing it in a linear progression way changes the feel of it (IMHO) and makes…
  • 48 hour bump
  • Thanks, I will go check that out!
  • It is basically a highly specialized cyclical type diet with some low cal days and then other high...and I mean higher than I'm used to...cal days coupled with some intense training in an effort to get really lean. It's hard for me to explain better than that without just copying parts of his book, lol.
  • OK, guess I will just do it myself and see how it goes. :flowerforyou:
  • My minimum is TDEE-20% which on non-exercise days is about 1500 at the very least. I usually eat more than that, close to 1800 or so on most days. I try to stay in a 10-20% deficit from maintenance for a comfortable pace fat loss.

  • No need to be paranoid. Eating that amount and exercising for an hour per day will still net you some weight loss. I would suggest finding a TDEE calculator and seeing what your maintenance level is, though. I bet you can easily eat a lot more than you are and still lose weight if you are exercising for an hour everyday.…
  • So you're asking if you can still lose weight by eating only 1200 calories a day and reducing exercise to 1 hour per day because you were over training like mad before? If that's honestly your question...then I don't know if this is serious or not...
  • As long as it doesn't taste as salty as most Ramen noodle packages, I might enjoy it just this once.
  • Orthorexics unite! :flowerforyou: Seriously, it does not matter where the energy comes from, whether it is fat or carbs and if it's carbs, what kinds of carbs if you are in calorie deficit. You will still lose weight.
  • This. You only need to watch sugar intake if you have a medical reason such as diabetes. Otherwise, don't even bother with. All you need to lose weight is a calorie deficit.
  • If you want to lose weight, first and foremost you must be eating in a calorie deficit. Cardio can increase this deficit (and so can weight training in a smaller amount than cardio). Weight training in a deficit will preserve your lean body mass and keep you strong, and it also helps to increase your RMR which allows you…
  • You could make some hard boiled eggs before you go to bed and have them in the morning with some cheese and fruit. Or apples and peanut butter are yummy together, too. Have you ever thought of making a wrap for breakfast? Just get a small tortilla and wrap up some reduced sodium deli meat, veggies, and a little cream…
  • Are you looking for something you don't have to cook? If that's the case, you could have some Greek yogurt with fruit, protein shake, etc. If you are cooking, I typically have omelets or oatmeal for breakfast along with fresh juice (I actually juice the veggies and/or fruits myself, not talking about the juice you can…
  • No, no no! You don't have massive muscle gainz unless you are a female eating 1200 calories and doing 30 Day Shred!!!
  • I honestly don't believe it matters when you work out, and I don't think that changing the time of your workouts would bust your plateau UNLESS by changing the time of day you increased the intensity of your workouts causing you to burn more calories. I typically exercise right before bed because after I get off work is…
  • Honestly never had this issue. I always dreamed mine would get bigger.

  • This was copied and pasted straight from Tom's website. It's part of a much larger article, but this will show you the exercises, reps, rest periods, etc. as well as Tom V's brief description of the program cycle: Workout 1: Monday Upper Strength/Hypertrophy A. Barbell Rows, pronated 5 sets X 5-6 reps 150-180 sec rest (P)…
  • And for a basic recipe, I add 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder into the plain fat free Greek yogurt and mix in some strawberries for a quick mousse-like snack.
  • It is one of the main ingredients in my cheesecakes. I use fat free cream cheese and fat free plain Greek yogurt as the base ingredients. Look up "The Cheesecake Group" in the message boards, then you will see loads of recipes and pictures in that group, especially in the "New York Cheesecake Morph" thread. I have…
