Hi Jaime. You can do this 7 weeks to work up from 8 miles is very doable. Check out fitness magazine or runners world for their training plans and just pick up with the week that looks most like what you currently do. I'm doing a 1/2 on the 30th... here's my training so far... I worked up to a 10 miler (and ran it as a…

I usually cut it up and either sprinkle it with stir-fry or other "meat" seasonings or soak it in some low sodium soy sauce and then bake it. There are more sophisticated things you can do with it, but I tend to enjoy it this way- I once saw this idea (with the addition of cracker crumbs) in a cook book as a substitute for…

well- there are likely to be transfats in fried foods and those fats aren't natural (in the way that sat and un sat fats are) and are said to be pretty dangerous to our hearts and circulatory systems...that being said, my advice is that life is short, eat it in moderation and enjoy every bite.

Maybe this isn't what you are looking for, but on days when I just cannot plan ahead I go into the grocery and buy my lunch. I usually come out with something like this: soup tuna (sometimes the premixed packs with crackers etc.) veggie tray veggie and hummus snack pack (they have these at Meijer near me, they are…

Okay- here it goes: MFP has you set at a deficit to lose weight if you don't exercise. When you do, you increase that deficit and some people eat back up to their reccomended or goal calories in terms of "net" calories. Today I had a goal of 1380. Then I ran almost 5 miles and got 430 calories. so that bumped me up to a…

Yes, this makes sense. I totally get the calories in /calories out thing for losing but I guess after slowly losing weight for two years the idea of not shooting for that trips my brain. :)

I think Baby Duchess is on the right track- I would add to eat at least 1200 calories (net) each day and avoid processed foods as the sodium and other fillers may not help you lose weight or be healthy.
-
My routine snacks air popped pop corn carrots pickles (lots of sodium but low calorie and they keep me away from sweets) almonds mixed nuts an apple a bowl of decent cereal
-
What they said, but yeah, the less processed the carb the better.

I've not read all the replies because- well, whoa. My two cents is that there is a water retention problem among us ladies. I some times see a 2lb jump in the course of one day both up and down based on my water retention, hormones, sodium intake etc. Hang in there.

Hi Marcy. I have lost nearly 50 pounds. I am a 4th year doctoral student (READ: busy as all get out and generally miserable about it). I do not eat 4-5 small meals. I eat 3 meals and 1 snack, maybe 2. But I have to tell you that the best way to succeed on here is to concentrate on your health and plan ahead. That includes…

Sounds like you have a plan BroDave, and I'm sure you will do great. I'm going to run my first 1/2 on April 30th. Good luck!

I have definitely been there. I once opened the door and walked right back out onto the porch. Poor doggy must have been miserable. (but it's so hard not to be mad at them.)

I have no street cred, so take my advice for what you will. I have been running for about 3 years now and I've done my fair share of 10 mile and shorter races. I am training for a half at the end of the month. I trained for an October marathon last year but was sidelined by a stress fracture. That being said, I think you…

Hey Sar3539. Keep your head up. I know it must be a tough time, I've been there. Try to focus on taking good care of yourself, getting some exercise to relieve the stress and eating foods that nourish and heal your body- it will make you feel all around better. It sounds like you are really struggling, maybe you need to…

I don't think 1200 is too few (unless you are meaning you eat 1200 and then burn several hundred which you don't eat back)- so my point is 1200 net should be okay for smaller folks (and in the low 130's you are a smaller person). I'm not a nutritionist, just going by my experience and what I've learned from these threads…

Lots of great stuff, and unfortunately a bunch of music that I would blush if people found out I listen to. (No offense George Michael).

As you get used to tea you can eventually move from splenda to flavored teas and cut out artificial sweetners too- just a suggestion for a challenge! Congrats to you folks on giving up the soda, I know folks struggle with that!

Happy birthday to CJ!!

I've got two dogs. Duke- The one further away in the ticker pic, a boxer lab mix, almost 7 (eesh! my baby's getting to be an old man!) We rescued him from a sanctuary in 2006. He's a mommy's dog- really laid back, great hiker, great naper, general oversized lap dog. He loves bread (once ate 2 yes 2! packs of hot dog buns…

Honestly, Maria, that is up to you. I think the safest bet is to put all the ingredients in the recipe tool and then look at the finished product and decide about servings... If it's a baked M&C and it will be in a pan, make mental divides of how many "squares" you want to get out of it. If it's not in a dish, then the…

Well...two thoughts. 1) some people care about these things for particular reasons, like joining the armed forces or meeting a doctor's reccomendation. 2) I was much too relaxed about my weight, health, bmi, nutrition etc before (and I would guess a lot of people feel the same way) so sometimes I find myself at the…

whoa. great job! you look younger and much more fit!

It's really tough to answer this question because your weight makes a huge difference in the energy expended to do the same ammount of work (calories, scientifically). I would say try to get a heart rate monitor and in the mean time take an average of the two???

If you use an HRM/ pedometer etc. log it. If you are guestimating, (or if it were me) I usually don't.

I'll be totally honest with you here Kookla...and it's probably not going to be fun to hear.... I didn't. I changed what I ate. I am a hungry human being so now I eat a boat ton of food but it is different food- veggies, fruits, green and leafy. If I tried to eat "regular" food in the correct portions I would starve to…

Check out Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything Vegetarian" (I borrowed a copy from my local library and wrote down/ remembered my favorites) and Rodale's recipe finder (just choose vegetarian or go by ingredient): http://recipes.rodale.com/homepage.aspx. I eat fish now (sometimes) but I've been different levels of…

Stay strong. It must be so tough to work so hard to be disappointed. I wanted to drop a note to ask if you have ever considered that you might have test anxiety or even potentially ADHD? Maybe a professional could help you figure out why testing conditions make you struggle?

I usually eat it under something like eggplant (parmesan) or fish. I have some parmesan cous cous that is pretty delish all by its lonesome.

I cut it in half, scrape out seeds, then put it cut down in some water in a microwave casserole dish (I'm lazy, you could use the oven too), poke some holes in it (much like a baked potato) and zap it for a good 10 minutes or so. Then I put some butter/margarine on it and eat it. Hope that helps.
