  • Well- as for burning more calories than you consume, don't for get your BMR- you burn calories sitting down as your body uses energy to breathe, digest food, etc. etc. So most people "burn" 1200 calories (everyone's different, but in general..) by being in a coma. When you exercise you add to the "burn." I think it's…
  • "bump" is a way to keep the post in "recent posts" but also in "my topics" so you can come back and read it later. As for lunch....I eat a lot of tuna, fresh veggies, apples, soup and salad. Probably not too new.
  • basically what they said. My apple wiped out my sugar intake for the day (along with 1 gram from my oatmeal this morning). I keep an eyeball on it, but I try to keep the natural sugar and added sugar separate in my head. HTH.
  • Super dooper job. You look amazingly healthy and quite happy. The advice is spot on.
  • Bananas, in my opinion, are healthy food. and are going to be a better option than some muffins or other choices. But Bananas have calories, and sugar, so they "count" as food. One medium banana is roughly about 100 calories. Food is food, it fuels your body, so it counts. Water and air are free, but you can't sustain…
  • I would also vote for changing the activity level in your profile and then logging only true exercise.
  • I would do it. If you are just stuffy, I would say it's safe. If it is chest congestion, I'd stay in. That's the bottom line of the advice I've heard. HTH
  • I say count them. vegetables do have calories and they add up. They are very healthy foods, but you can have too much of a good thing.
  • This sounds like a case of "side stitches" and often food eaten too close to running or types of food can be the culprit. To get more info you could check out runnersworld.com HTH
  • Here are a few thoughts- is it possible that the extra food and sodium are actually to blame for the weight differences over the weekends? If 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat, that would have to be one heck of a weekend to ruin 5 days of good behavior. You could move your weigh in day to Wednesday to get a better reading…
  • Four pounds in eight weeks for someone trying to lose 10 pounds is actually lots of progress. It comes off slower the smaller you are. I've been fighting 10 pounds for months now. Make sure you hydrate, eat enough, and have realistic goals. Congrats on your progress so far!
  • oh no. I'm so guilty of most of this. I go comando except for in yoga (worried about the inversions, after all). I have twice at the gym (and numerous times on the street) run in only a sports bra. Really, it's only because I'm so warm I think I'm going to puke. Yesterday I got so warm at the gym I got off the treadmill…
  • Good use of the blog, Matt.
  • "1. On the way to the mall- the guy who felt the need to hold up traffic on rt 1 because he was trying to make an illegal left turn! Hello those TWO yellow lines mean do not cross!! Go up and turn around like everyone else!! Besides Bebe's restaurant isn't worth it anyway! " Maybe I'm a doofus, but where I'm from, two…
  • I did this really backwards. I didn't have a day. My friend was on the site, and I knew I needed to lose weight, but I didn't really have the motivation or desire to, but I joined and started logging for the heck of it. Part of it was the shock of what I was actually eating, the other was the feeling of success, learning…
  • You make a point, but... I too do not like unsolicited advice and it was like yesterday that I saw someone copy and past the calorie totals froma friend's diary into a post to get folks to try to help her with her "eating disorder." There are days I don't log, days I go over, and sometimes I eat a cookie or something. I'm…
  • To add to this, be sure to remind her that you are only having such a difficult conversation with her because you both love her and want her to be apart of your children's lives.
  • I agree with C25K. I do run with superfeet inserts, but to be honest, I don't know how much they really help. Welcome, Runner!
  • never ever too old to Rock, sister. I'm right there with you.
  • I eat that horrible fake healthy life 35 calorie bread (which is probably not akin to real bread at all). But my husband will eat it so it's our compromise.

  • Strange confession- when I joined MFP I actually wasn't trying to lose weight. My friend was and thought the site was neat. I just started adding my food and using it to have conversations with her. I had a very "here goes nothing" attitude. Then I made small changes. Then I saw a post about C25K and decided to try it.…
  • It has happened to me before. Just recently actually. I lost 1/2 a pound one day after not having lost for weeks, and then consecutively I weighed a good 2 pounds less on two different days (I re-weighed to make sure it wasn't a fluke). If you are a lady, especially, water can sometimes hang around and mask loss as it…
  • This is a tough decision. I don't really have advice, but I know that medically health problems like hormone imbalances can be serious obstacles to weight loss goals. Sometimes medical intervention is needed. Hang in there and I wish you the best whatever you choose.
  • I think the only real way to help woudl be to check out your food diary. Here are some questions I have: How many calories a day do you eat? What is your BMR? What is your deficit? Do you weigh/measure your food? How do you handle exercise calories? How do you measure calories burned? Have you seen a doctor for a basic…
  • If you need money, you could always sell the nicer items at consignment shops. I opened up an account at one and made like 25 bucks on some jeans and slacks. It was pretty awesome. I would've donated, but I had a hard time thinking of letting go of some of my favorite barely used items for nothing...I had just bought them!
  • I would guess that is low- the brown rice its self is like 200 a cup....and it looks like a bunch here. 1 tbsp of most oil is 120.. which is once around most skillets...sorry. Edited to reflect calories in brown rice, I over estimated then checked the database.

  • One of Micheal Pollan's food rules is : drink your food and eat your beverages; essentially meaning chew your food until liquid and keep your beverages in your mouth long enough to taste them. He also suggests putting the eating utensil down between bites, drinking water between bites and making sure it takes you nearly as…
  • Here's my advice for the long days. Plan carefully. Small meals/snacks often. Lots of fiber and water. Coffee is okay if you watch what you put in it. Don't eat just to stay awake, it likely will not help. If you are ravenous and must go over, better to do it with carrots and apples than ho hos from a vending machine.
  • Maybe not save up for later- a balance throughout the day is best. Maybe you do need more calories earlier in the day?
  • I make a vegetarian chilli that comes in at 255 calories a serving (before any garnish or grains). You would have to modify the yield to feed everyone, as this recipe makes 3 servings, but I like it. 1 can kidney beans 1 cup black beans 1 can diced tomatoes 1 garlic clove 50 grams onion 1 tb chilli powder 1 tb ground…
