  • good point fit-Phil, but I think that's a problem with many gyms. Most require an automatic draft payment, and even my locally owned gym told us they automatically renew unless you cancel.
  • I would agree with others, but I would say it gets less noticeable.
  • well... I'm no expert but... fruit is somewhat high in sugar and carbs...and some fruit is better than others nutritionally, that being said fruit is usually a great source of fiber, vitamins and general nutrition, It is a whole, natural, raw food that is minimmally processed. We have evolved as humans to eat mostly plants…
  • When you bump something it is a way of posting so it says both in "recent posts" and in "my topics" so you can make it more available to others and save it so you can read/reference it later. HTH

  • Runners world says between 300 and 500. I got a stress fracture at 460 miles this summer (training for a marathon). I have a new pair to replace the currents at mile 300 this year. Another good way to tell is if the sole is considerably worn on the bottom. My vote is sooner rather than later!
  • I would peel, cut and freeze the oranges and bananas (for future combination with yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, cereal and smoothies) and then use the apples in salads, as snacks, and cook them for desserts.... there are some good recipes for apples that are sweet but not high calorie or high sugar- try women's health…
  • I'm running one (just a half- my first half) about 4 hours north of you the same day in Louisville. Good luck with the full!
  • If you tell the app your weight, it will figure it much the same way that MFP does (I assume) by calculating general heart rates based on body size and then time of activity...
  • Use google maps or another similar website to calculate the distance between your gym and your starting point. Then time how long it takes you. then do the math. If the route you walk is .5 miles and it takes you 15 minutes, you are walking 2 miles an hour. If it's a mile and you walk it in 20 minutes, then you are walking…
  • I would say it depends on what it is and how many calories it is. I don't generally log gum, but I feel like if I swallow it- it is fair game to be logged...
  • yes- what Erick said. I always get that crap mixed up. Either way- 1,000 cals left over sounds like a lot and I would worry about nutrition, long term maintainability and actual success at that rate.

  • Hi. when you log your exercise MFP should adjust your calorie goal to account for what you burned. There is a debate on here about whether or not to eat those calories. I do. Others do. Some eat half. Others don't. Since you are at 1200 to start I would say eat at least half so that your NET intake is 1,200. When you burn…

  • Same here friend. What I usually do to avoid awkward fractions is change the serving in MFP to the whole pizza and then take the fraction I actually cut the pizza into. So.... if I sliced my pizza into 8 slices I would choose 1/8 for every slice I ate (or 1/4 if I eat two slices and so on and so on). Even numbers are…
  • sorry I'm a doofus- what does N S V stand for? Ps. congrats! Woot Woot!

  • Hi! Welcome. We're glad to have you here at MFP. I think Slim Fast might be okay to get yourself started, but as others have said, counting calories and eating nutritious portion-controlled food is a life long skill that you can incorporate into an overall lifestyle change. I don't know how many calories are in slim fast,…
  • I think humans are bad at giving compliments sometimes, or better yet, have had bad experiences with attempting to give them. I know some folks wind up offended by people's compliments that insinuate they used to be fat. People holding back are probably just trying not to put their foot in it!
  • FitMama, are you saying that because of sodium or actual weight of the food? I'm seeing she's only over less than 500 calories- that certainly can't account for 4 pounds of weight gain- am I missing something here? Edited: add note to original poster: you will be okay- you may not see the number you want, but get back on…
  • Just a note- if it's not visibly gross, I often eat produce past the "best by" date. But all the uses mentioned above are good. Boiling it or steaming it helps because it shrinks down a great deal after cooking and you can eat more of it. ] HTH
  • we are lazy and I'm a vegetarian, so we always open a can of soup and cook it on the grate. I also eat the fresh veggies and a crap ton of marshmallows (roasted marshmallows are my weakness and I only live once and camp so infrequently that I give my self a pass on my charcoal mash mellows.)
  • Yep- it's annoying but they don't hand pick the ads- it's a free site and the ads are generated by special formulas picking up words in the site- we are talking about food and weight loss. The ads don't know why and the guys making the site don't pick the ads. Hang in there. Cupcakes are all over the world, consider it…
  • I think coffee is pretty neutral if you have room for it in your calories (meaning the stuff you add to it), and you hydrate with water sufficiently. Caffeine is no miracle worker, but I've been on and off coffee since joining and I haven't seen a difference based on coffee consumption. HTH

  • I can't wrap my brain around it. Sometimes I feel really tubby for my weight (as small as I have been since I starved my self freshman year of high school- many years ago). But other times I catch a glimpse of a photo or a mirror and think "Who is that lady, someone feed her, NOW!" Just goes by the day I guess.
  • Not this one, but one in my hometown on April 30th. Good luck in training. It will be awesome.
  • I am a pescatarian (only eat fish in terms of meat), and so I've been cooking mine and my husband's food separately for a long long time now. Sometimes I can make him a salad when I make mine and then I pop his main dish in the oven/on the grill/ stove and set about cooking mine. Most of the foods I eat are easy to cook…
  • Here are some ways I eat 'em: Mixed with a can of kidney beans, diced tomatoes, 1/2 onion, 1tbsp of cumin and 1/2 tbsp of chilli powder as chilli. Mixed with Canned salsa and stuffed in a pita with cabbage as a take on fish tacos Plain with a side of greens and a sweet potato On top of refried beans and under lettuce and…
  • @heathersmilez- I'm pretty sure my mom has that, if she barfs, it's time to take her to the hospital. She'd rather die than to puke.
  • I do plain oat meal, 1/4 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp of brown sugar (administered in two doses one half way through the bowl) and some cinnamon. Pretty sweet and definitely filling.
  • Your BMR is what your body needs to work in it's current state- but you are trying to push it down to a smaller state (if you are shooting for weight loss here). You need a deficit to make your body burn fat for energy. You should try to keep a net calorie intake of about 1200 (at least)- but you may be under your BMR with…
  • Congrats on the purchase. There are some great workouts at Runner's World (www.runnersworld.com)- I know you are a walker primarily, but the advice at RW can be followed for walkers if you just adjust your speed- most are hills (work up and then back down with the incline) or intervals of different speeds for different…
