I should start with the disclaimer that I don't actually go to the gym- I'm too broke for all that. But I can sympathize with the people are watching me thing. I run in my neighborhood and I used to think that everyone was watching me struggle and jiggle and thinking about what a loser I was. I used to not do any exercise…

What is in it? 3 tbs of lard? Sheesh!:noway:

I really like dried cranberries (sheesh- I hope that's right, maybe they have their own name like raisins?) in mine. In general, I hate cranberries, but in salads I really like them. I also love sunflower seeds in my salad. I'm sure they can accumulate calories and/or fat pretty quickly, but a little goes a long way. When…

The Al-Anon suggestion is a great one. My Dad was an alcoholic and it was rough. He changed though and that was worth alot. But in the meantime it was very rough. Definitely do what is best for your daughter- seeing your parents messed up is a traumatic experience. If you don't leave all together, think about making sure…

My family was the exact same way. I swear. I didn't even get a hug when I got engaged. It was really disappointing. I'm sorry you are going through this, hopefully the big day turns out well, and you have an awesome honeymoon where you are glad to get away with your new hubby for a while and forget about everyone else for…

ARRRG! Corn Syrup! The bane of my existence! Why do they put it in ev-ery-thing!? Seriously food people. Give it a break.

I used to love them green, but you have to watch out - too green and that "helps with constipation" part goes into overdrive. :blushing: Now I shoot for when the stems and tops are green but the rest is a freshly ripe yellow...ahh the days when I was still brave enough to eat a green banana.....

Hi All. I just finished my first day of my Week 3 of Couch to 5k and I have to say I am pumped!! I didn't think I could run for 3 minutes straight (mostly because of being chubbs, but also because of an old injury) but I did it. I could've jumped up and down. The best news is if I can do it- I know anyone else…

Yeah! Happy Birthday! :drinker:

I'm not an expert- but I would say that the red sauce is likely the healthiest. Tomato base versus cheese base. I know our Papa Johns also offers Whole Wheat crust, now if it's really whole wheat, it's likely better than the regular, but who knows. Also, just another guess I would say thin crust is likely better than thick…

So how inaccurate are we talking for just the wrist type? That's the sort I just got and there is a HUGE discrepancy between what it says that I burned and what this site suggests I would have burned. I was doing intervals with the couch to 5k and measured several times throughout the workout. My heart rate was around the…

Yes. Hummus is definitely the best! I eat in on my bagels sometimes too.

Hi ya Maddie- there are several podcasts that will play their own chosen music and then cue you. I like Robert Ullery's. It's not my taste in music, but the guy talking is really helpful for me. :) (I hope you have an ipod, etc. If not this was pretty useless advice. ) Oh- and thanks for the honesty folks- Week 2 is…

Hi All, I just wanted to share that there are some good ideas for tunes on Runner's World .com. Some of it is crap- but there is no accounting for taste of course. I have found some good tunes on there to keep my feet moving though. I listen to everything. I just recently downloaded some more eminem (lose yourself) and…

So in addition to just gaining - or not losing- due to water weight do other ladies *feel* pudgy during that time? I often feel like I can't even fit in my clothes. :grumble:

I confess I ate at a buffet last night and then wimped out on one of my couch to 5k intervals today. I'll be visiting local high school track tonight with my running buddies (hubby and puppy) to give it a second whirl. oh- and unrelated, I confess I have a boat load of homework that I am NOT doing right now.

Hi-ya! What's the name of that app? I have a "restaurants" one, but most of my favs are missing.... Thanks!

Whoa! You look awesome of course- but also much healthier! Be proud! :flowerforyou:

Peanut Butter is high calorie, but used in moderation, it is a good source of protein and is actually pretty healthy. It's just a matter of using it 2 tablespoons at a time instead of 1/4 cup at a time. It's also probably gotten a bad wrap for what it's eaten with...I know I used to like mine pretty well in chocolate ice…

Thanks for the info. I'm sorry to hear about his passing. He seems like he contributed some important things to society.

Okay... I apologize in advance but who is art vandelay?

Maybe you're thinking Willie Mays- he played the Baseball. Billy Mays was an infomercial guy- won an award for being the best dude trying to sell stuff on TV.

Isn't the beer has whole grains argument the same logic that Bill Cosby's kids used to get him to serve them Chocolate Cake for Breakfast? "Dad is great, give us the chocolate cake."

Yeah- other than an HRM- how can I calculate the calories burned? (I'm too broke right now to think about purchasing one...) Thanks!

Perhaps when mstialane says burn they mean BMR- like my body burns this much just laying around.??? But still Lucky Leprechaun has given you some good advice.

I too have sinned. I've been having alot "eater's remorse" lately. I stopped in Sonic's happy hour for a *Small* real fruit slush thinking "hey, it's mostly ice." Maybe if I had gotten the small, I wouldn't be confessing. It was happy hour- 1/2 price. I wound up with a slush I had to use both hands to hold! :grumble: But,…

Hi all. You have motivated me to check into this couch to 5k business. Just one question- any chance of integrating my dog into all this running? Maybe even just at first? (and Leaving him out when I start to run longer distances? I take him out for my brief walks/jogs now, but since I haven't really gotten too deep into…
