  • I just started eating them after my saturday bike rides. I think they are okay in moderation. I generally like to eat food with more protein and fiber than sugar, but for what they are, I think they are a good solution.
  • Have you tried a specific training plan? Maybe couch to 5 k or something? This seems to be a favorite of alot of people and having goals when you set out (of intervals, etc.) can help any run go better. I know when I go out aimlessly I can get to be pretty unhappy and I run 1/2 marathons. Or it may be running is not your…
  • I eat plain, unbuttered air popped popcorn, baby and full sized carrots, cucumber, berries, apples, and plain high fiber cereal for snacks. Berries and cereal you have to watch, but for carrots and cucumber you will be full before you do too much dammage even if you eat them mindlessly.
  • Yes add the yoga. It has many benefits- probably wouldn't cause the same weight loss as other things if it is used in isolation, but when combined it is definitely very helpful.

  • oooh....I've got an idea!! Look at the calories (and/or other nutrients) on your usual ground beef- or look it up in the data base. Then find the difference between that and your morning star product. Then subtract these differences from the Hamburger Helper box. Viola! Does that help?
  • I vote make your own croutons. It's pretty easy- just cut up the bread and put it in a baggie with some seasoning and then bake it until crunchy. I've done it with my 35 calorie bread slices. Crackers could work too but I don't know if that would help with calories.
  • I would go with the 0.9 piece rule or what another poster said and just chalk it up to bonus- there is probably some margin of error in the calorie count for the pizza anyway.

  • We need more info. How long have you been at this? What are your goals? have you reccently been exercising more? have you been going over in sodium? Is it potentially a water weight/hormonal/constipation issue? etc. etc. there are lots of factors.
  • If it doesn't have the nutritional information for just the mix, I'm stumped here. Sorry.
  • People do it both ways. The reason MFP gives them back is MFP sets you up with a deficit in your calories to reach your weight loss goal WITHOUT exercise. So when you exercise you increase that deficit. That will mean you will lose more weight OR you can eat those back and stay on track for the goal you set. My only real…
  • I eat plain oatmeal but add 1/4 tsp of vanilla and 1/2 tsp of brown sugar. As well as a sprinkling of cinnamon. It is sweet enough but it comes out with these numbers: 162 calories 29 carbs 3 grams fat 5 grams protein 4 grms fiber 3 grams sugar Not too shabby.

  • I'd agree- You're probably a little low in something else (I'm always low in fat) but a lot of folks think MFP has a low protein goal.
  • Hard to say. I've lost just about 50 and as you can see I've been around since 2009!! That seems like forever. I would say maybe 8 months could be a reasonable goal, because I think 1 lb a week give or take is pretty feasible, and that would take 32 weeks (divided by 4 for a month) or 8 months. I know a lot of ppl have…
  • Thanks guys. This all really helps a lot. Unfortunately, we are all very displeased with his doctor, who informed him of this diagnosis through a letter and mailed his prescription to him. He did not help him out with any education what-so-ever. This is going to be a huge change for him, and I'm working hard to get the…

  • I eat a lot of beans, tofu, spaghetti squash, nuts, and veggie based italian dishes such as zucchini lasagna (recipe from MFP "recipe" message boards) or spaghetti squash with tomatoes and cheese.
  • He is so right. I goof that up all the time! (thanks for catching me).

  • \ MFP sets you up with a deficit in your calorie goal- so you are burning more than you eat. If you follow MFP and have a goal to lose, you burn more than you eat every day. The goal is not the same as your BMR- which is the calories you need to maintain your weight or keep yourself alive with no weight change. Does that…

  • If you are eating your exercise calories back, you should be over 1200 net calories. Net means food eaten -exercise. There is a huge debate over eating your exercise calories or not, but I have always eaten most of them back and I'm pretty much at my goal weight. (And i've been at this a while). If you are working out your…

  • This may not be your perfect day of nutrition but no, you did not "mess up." Your loss should be okay and just be careful about the rest of the day and tomorrow get back to your goals. 1 piece of pizza can't do too much dammage.
  • I suggest going over just a smidge with a salad (100 grams of lettuce is really alot and only 11 calories). Try to ditch the dressing and make it tasty with veggies and maybe some banana pepper rings. Then add in something else low cal like steamed veggies, egg whites (a sizeable amount with salsa can add up to about 50…
  • I had once set up mini goals but I eventually let them go. The loss itself was rewarding and most of my rewards were fitness related, but then when I got closer to maintenance I needed new shoes and wanted to register for races before I hit the next landmark. My only real advice is to go for non-food rewards, obviously. I…
  • sweet. That's great advice. Thanks.
  • Depending on what you mean by occassional, my advice is don't stress. Sure soda isn't healthy, but really neither is beer or brownies. An occassional anything shouldn't be too big of a deal.

  • not to hi jack the thread, but how do folks feel about potassium supplements? I am always low (by a long shot), but I've heard mixed things about taking the supplements. AND- the pills I have only supply 99mg of potassium- no where near enough to make up for my deficit a the end of most days.
  • I usually think about all the quirky things I love about other people- my high school friend's slightly crooked nose, someone's beauty spot they despise, my best friend's legs. I think these are the things that make them cute, and they hate them. Trust that someone will love that thing about you that you do not. That and I…
  • Yes- I second what baldzach is saying- but to also answer your question, some times I get chills when I really push it and I get excited about setting a new record or finishing a race or even just a hard work out. I think it's more of an adrenaline based tingling in my skin than actual chills. But seriously- make sure you…
  • I go over on sugar every day, but I eat a lot of low fat dairy and fruit. others may have different opinions, but natural sugars in plain milk (and unsweetened yogurts) and fruit are ones I don't keep as close a count on- they are natural and come with fiber and nutrition. It's the added sugars I try to avoid. HTH.
  • This! And I tend to think the less involvement on my behalf in other people's bedrooms (when I'm not invited) the better- and honestly I try to keep from getting drug in as well. good luck, sticky situation. **I add that if they start asking you questions you refer them to each other, clearly they need to communicate more.…
