  • The other thing you could try is adding in some squashes or a yam. When you get really hungry to the point of being ravenous it stimulates a stress response in your body, increasing cortisol. A bit of healthy starchy carb may help reduce the stress hormone response and help you transition.
  • I bet you were starving because you didn't eat the YOLKS! They are where all the nutrients are. Why don't you try the same breakfast with 3 whole eggs and see how you feel.

  • Question answered in my new blog post :www.cavegirlplusone.com Enjoy :)
  • I agree. Your protein needs increase in pregnancy and the average woman needs between 80-100g/day. If you're still going way over that I'd consider supplementing the remainder of your calories from fats. Think avocado, fattier cuts of grass-fed beef or dark poultry (with the skin), eggs, coconut products (oil/butter/milk).…
  • I'll be sure to answer that question this week for you! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out:)
  • Glad you enjoyed the first posts :) I usually spread the pumpkin seed butter on paleo pancakes. It tastes fabulous on a pancake or paleo muffin. It's also pretty great on celery, apples or spread in a piece of romaine with some chicken and sprouts on top. Basically you use it like you would any nut butter. If you add a bit…
  • Awesome! So great to hear there are others that can benefit from my experiences :) Best wishes on your journey!
  • So many great things out there! Here are a few of my fav's: - Lets do organic coconut flour - Great Lakes Gelatin - Manitoba harvest Hemp pro 70 - Nuts to you organic pumpkin seed butter - Anything kale chips...yumm
  • I agree with the too many fruits (fructose) suggestion. I'd also cut out things like VH one stirfry sauce. It's total junk and will hinder your efforts by not supporting a healthy body. Skim milk is also very high in sugar and if you are choosing to consume dairy, I'd suggest you try organic whole milk or cream (don't be…
  • Why not just leftover dinner for lunch? If you pre-bake a big batch of chicken drumsticks, they make fun easy lunches as well. Other ideas include: - celery and almond butter - paleo sushi (if they are creative eaters) - Sausage sliced on cucumber - carrot and veggies and an avocado/guacamole dip of sorts - For a sweet…
  • Are you a smoker? This can cause black tongue. Otherwise, other causes can be as mentioned above (pepto bis) as well as a bacterial overgrowth. It isn't a harmful condition. Use an antibacterial mouthwash multiple times a day and it should clear up. Some people also try sucking on pineapple, but there aren't any studies to…
  • I would suggest giving Paleo/Primal a try. You can google it. Your brain and body need healthy fats from good quality meat and veg sources, don't restrict them. Insulin levels swings can cause significant mood swings, alterations and lead to depression. Control the insulin and you should start to feel better.
  • I love them and when prepared correctly they can be a great treat, but not a diet staple.
  • Sweet potatoes are one of the safest paleo starches. Cottonseed oil is some of the worst oil around. It has the most pesticide residue and in my mind is totally toxic. It's used because it's extremely cheap. Try some raw nuts instead. You can still find them at costco :)
  • You may want to check out Mark Sission's Marks daily apple blog and search "Carbohydrate curve". This is however just a guideline and as a fertile woman or if you struggle with thyroid/hormone issues, low carb isn't a health thing to continue for life. You may also want to check out balancedbites.com. They have a great…
  • What are your stress levels like? I think we often overlook the essential connection between our stress and emotional state and our digestive health. Even if you have a perfect diet, being in a stressed out state of sympathetic activation will de-rail all of your efforts in the food department. Just a thought.
  • Speaking as someone who has suffered with an ED most of my life, MFP offers a way for me to manage my anxiety, feel like I'm in control and cope with my ED. I recently deleted all of my friends because it seemed like everyone was trying to lose weight, some women also had unhealthy, unrealistic goals. I found their logging…
  • I rarely use protein powders but when I do use Jay Robb's egg white protein. Come from free range healthy eggs and natural flavours. Yumm.
  • I'm at my goal of 13.5%.....I'd like to put on some more muscle, it's a work in progress :) For me, carb control really helps with body composition optimization!
  • If you can tolerate dairy: raw goat or sheep milk is most nutritious. Skim milk is sugary junk...seriously. If you can't tollerate dairy, like me, organic enriched almond or coconut milk is your next best bet, just make sure to stick to the unsweetened variety.
  • I totally disagree. The body isn't as simple as calories in- calories out. It is all about what our bodies do with our calories and involves a complex balance within our hormonal systems. In order to efficiently lose, gain or maintain weight hormones need to be balanced.... Insulin, thyroid, lepitin, neuro-peptide y to…
  • If you want to optimize body composition, I agree with some of the above posters, eat primal, drop your carbs to 50 or less TOTAL. Eat more healthy fat from coconut oil, avocados and grassfed meats. The weight will fall off and you'll be happy and satiated.
  • Mashed cauliflower with coconut oil (like fun mashed potatoes), mini burgers, scrambled eggs, coconut flour pancakes, all the kids I've ever met have loved chicken drumsticks, paleo chicken nuggets (with coconut or almond flour)...the list is endless. Check out Paleo Parents website for other great ideas. In my experience,…
  • Primal also has more of an emphasis on fats, whereas Paleo is a bit more restrictive on fats. I eat a mostly primal diet that is dairy free. I don't think we were made to consume things made to fatten up baby animals :) and it doesn't agree with me. Also be sure to source your meat and veggies to be local and organic when…
  • Check out the carbohydrate curve post on Marks Daily Apple: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-primal-carbohydrate-continuum/#axzz2Ga9jDB8q
  • http://paleodietlifestyle.com/paleo-resolutions-not-about-weight-loss/ A great post! 10 NY resolutions that are NOT ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS :) Remember folks, the paleo diet isn't a weight loss diet, weight loss is a side effect of not consuming the SAD. Happy NY!
  • Two thoughts: 1. My guess is that your calorie imput and output isn't accurate. You'd be fading away if they were correct. Use a HRM for accurate calorie burns. MFP calculations are off by upwards of 200%....this could easily be the cause of your hindered weight loss. 2. Temporarily reduce carbs to 50~ish or about 15-20%…
  • Way to go Jenna!! Since totally committing to Paleo I've also lost about 7lbs (sometimes it gets down to 8). I haven't had my BF measured professionally in a few years but it still says the same on my scale at home as it did when I had it last measured by callipers (13.5%) I don't want to lose any more weight or else my…
  • I like this strain! I don't want to preach my ways on anyone else :) but I'd like to embrace a different side of Paleo/Primal lifestyle and incorporate more mindfulness, rest and peace into my life. I hope to also learn how to nap.
