I read the same article about the kid's meals too! *shocked* And we thought eating the kids meals in lieu of a grown up meal was ok...sheesh. I'm also pretty tight with a dollar - so I like to eat at home too, but hubby is a fast food/restaurant afficinado. I have to keep a pretty tight rein on him, lol. Before healthy…

Ya-hooo! I got my Blue Glow Polar F-11 yesterday   I'm a total gadget girl - so this is right up my alley. It took me a long time to decide which HRM to go with. I was looking into everything from Garmin to Timex, and settled on this model for various reasons. Anyways, this model has a fitness test (you…

You know I'm in!!!

- Seeing cheek and collar bones (who knew there were bones under there??) - Buying "regular" clothes - Discovering that fitness is FUN

My thoughts exactly, Banks! *wiping forehead in relief*

WOW!! Thank you - I checked out the website and it is awesome - will def try it out!

Great idea Lauryn - I'm game! Maybe start a new post with "Book Club: Month" in the title?
-
Ohhh..no, I haven't read that one yet! I just googled it, and looks good. I'll add it my list "to-read" and see if the library has it. I rarely buy books (I'd be broke if I did  ) so the library is my 2nd best friend!

I also read "Running with Scissors" - and keep in mind that it is supposedly a memoir. The story line is so out-of-this-world (in a good attention-grabbing way). I'm not totaly sure how truthful it is to the author's real life (think "A Million Little Pieces".) BUT it is a good read!

Another "fat" book that I loved is "Slow, Fat, Triathlete: Live Your Athletic Dreams in the Body You Have Now" by Jayne Williams. It seriously cracked me up, and I love the fact that the author went ahead and accomplished her goals of triathons regardless of her weight (instead of "I'll wait until I lose weight, and…

Have you read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" (also by Hosseini)? It is such a beautiful (sad) story - I couldn't put it down. I loved "The Kite Runner" as well. I recently finished "Codex 632" - a novel about the true identity of Christopher Colombus (kind of along the Da Vinci Code lines), and even though I'm no history buff…

I'm getting the Polar F11 (hopefully tonight)! After researching, reading the boards - gonna bite the bullet and go for it (actually hubby is buying it as a belated anniversary gift.) Can't wait! I LOVE gadgets and numbers - I'm hoping I won't be too disppointed in the actual calories burned tho

On Sunday I dropped my kids off at camp grizzly just before 2 PM. The camp is near Portola, CA (60 miles north of Truckee), so I stopped on my way back and hiked up to Castle Peak near Boreal (Truckee). I forgot my camera (darn!) - but it looked like this (minus the snow): http://kevingong.com/Hiking/CastlePeak.html Was…

I just ate some dark chocolate...seems the metallic taste is gone (for now). Who knew chocolate was a cure-all?? I normally eat dark chocolate with breakfast (weird, I know), but didn't have any today. I also cut back my calories significantly this morning since we are having a fant-tabulous dinner, and I want to…

Help! Today I've had this metallic taste in my mouth all day...brushing, eating my meals, drinking water - nothing helps. It's not horrible, but just kind of annoying. :grumble: I heard some people experience this on Atkins, but I am not on a low carb diet (I love 'em carbs!) Bizzare (scratching head) Anyone experience…

Princess Laundry - which HRM do you have? I'm researching various HRM...

I love-love frozen blueberries - I buy huge bags of frozen blueberries from Costco and snack on them year round (I like 'em even better than ice cream!) The kids love 'em too - you get vitamins and fiber. Can't beat that. :) I don't buy them fresh and freeze tho (fresh berries are eaten right away!) - frozen bulk packages…

I know what you mean! I love Trader Joe's Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies - they taste like cookie dough to me. Each cookie is close to 150 calories - YIKES! I could easily eat the whole bag without blinking an eye - so I don't buy them! Another food that causes me to bloat is microwave popcorn - go figure! I used to eat this…

I take my girls (ages 9 and 7) hiking with me often - we are blessed to live in Northern Cali with MANY park areas and hiking trails. For a 5-10 mile hike, I would bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person. I bought camelbacks for myself and my girls - the kids have a 1.5 liter and I carry a 3 liter. You want to have…

Also keep in mind that processed food (frozen meals like SmartOnes, Lean Cruisine, etc.) are HIGH in sodium, which may cause you to retain water. You can actually check your overall sodium intake in your food diary by changing your settings. Otherwise, the food you listed seems good! Maybe suprise your body and change your…

We saw Wall-E last weekend - loved it!! It has good messages related to environmental AND obesity issues - excellent movie! (Also my 2nd DD's name is Eve - so she loved the fact that the white robot is also Eve:smile: )

I did not know about the Hershey Spa thing!!! I had to google it and was SHOCKED it was real - no one told me!!! lol. I think I'm going to have to take a road trip soon... I should be fine as long as I don't lick myself - right? (ohh that sounds bad, lol!)

Ohhh the tomato/mozarella sandwich sounds YUM! I know what I'm making for dinner tonight....
-
Berries are in season now - strawberries, blackberries and raspberries.....YUM! Chicken breast, low-fat string cheese, eggs, whole wheat bread, nuts and lots of fruits/veggies are always on the top of our list!

I usually only cook one meal for the whole family (they either eat it or make themselves a sandwich). I find this is a good way to model healthy eating and introduce the little ones to health food before they get hooked on McDuds  Sometimes, I'll make fish for the family (I don't eat seafood) and I will make myself…

You did the right thing. I would have done the same - distracted my child, and later (at home or in the car) explain how sometimes people's feelings are hurt when you talk about how they look, etc. I've done the same thing when my kids pointing at people, or staring at people in wheelchairs. I just nudge them along, and…

Oh wow...that is just stunning! Is he pro? Thanks for sharing

Also, you will need to input your stride rate in order for the pedometer to accurately read your steps (I had a friend who didn't do this and her pedometer showed WAY more steps taken than actual) - this is fairly easy and is laid out in the instructions. I got my from Rite Aid or Wal-Greens for under $15 - pretty compact…

I've found that if I eat after 8ish PM - I lose weight more slowly. I understand the calories in and calories out...I think it is more of a total calories intake, however even when I've moved my dinner to a later time and kept calories the same - weight comes off slower (I know this because I'm an OCD scale freak …
