My only advice is to drink plenty of water and maybe go a little heavier on the carbs than you normally do. The pain in from the muscles repairing themselves and they use water and carbs to do that (from my understanding). Also don't be surprised if you see a gain this week on the scale....it's the muscles retaining water…

I have a Serfas RX Women's saddle and I love it. I have ridden up to 60ish miles with it and it was still (relatively) comfortable.....as comfortable as a saddle can be after 62 miles, haha. Just search online for the name and you should see it. I bought mine at REI but I'm sure other places sell it. ~Chelle

Like the OP, I am a slower rider also. I used to let it bother me that everyone else seemed to fly by me and I always ended up last, but then I realized that I'm riding for ME not for someone else. As long as I finish the ride I started I'm happy with myself. I do strive to get faster, but if I don't that's ok too. I got…

I have always stopped at all traffic lights and stop signs. However, I recently started slowing and looking at stop signs and if there are no cars around I've been rolling through them. I will always stop at traffic lights however....in my opinion that's just asking to get hit. Chelle

Thank you! I have been trying to anticipate what my needs are going to be, and I think for now I'm going to do some more research into the GPS units. I have been able to find a way (I think) to get a pre-mapped out route onto my phone, and have found a decently-rated phone holder for the bike for $100. I am considering…

I also use MFP's calculations (don't have a heart rate monitor) and have been eating back all (or more) of my exercise calories and have been losing pretty consistently when I ride. I'll sometimes go up or down an intensity category, depending on the ride and how it felt. Like today for instance, I averaged 12.25mph for 60…

Thank you everyone for the replies and recommendations! I've been busy the last few days and wasn't able to check back until now. I have some looking to do online and the different ones that were mentioned. Someone mentioned using their phone and mounting it on the bike....I thought of that but haven't found one that I…

I haven't had much problem with bugs in the face/mouth, but it wouldn't faze me to see someone with a facemask or bandana tied around. In fact, the bandana is a great idea, and one that I'll keep in mind if the bugs are bad. I tend to get them in the corners of my eyes, even with sunglasses.....so I possibly have the wrong…

Biking is basically the only exercise I do, because it's the only one I actually like. This will be my third season riding. Bought a new bike last year and love it. Signed up for a Century in September and need to get back in shape for that. Just started riding outdoors this past week and love it! ~Chelle

I mostly ride along, and don't really have anyone to come rescue me, so I ride with more than the average person probably does. I have a Topeak RX Trunk Bag (with fold down panniers) on a frame behind my seat and wear a Camelbak. I also wear a RoadID on my ankle. In the Trunk bag I have: extra tissues cell phone tubes (2)…

If you look on a 16oz box of dried pasta, there are 8 servings in a box.....therefore a serving is 2oz dry. Not sure why your pasta maker lists what it does.

I just joined as well. This sounds like fun! Currently I am trying to get out to ride 3-4 times a week (waiting for new helmet mirror parts to come in). Just signed up yesterday for my first Century ride being held in September, so I definitely will be racking up the miles sooner rather than later! My name on the site is…

Under 2 hours, I just have water (3L) mixed with a packet of EmergenC electrolyte mix and a packet of salt (no sodium in the packets). I tend to drink 1L an hour when riding...more if it's hots. Over 2 hours, I was bringing a That's It! Fruit bar and Bonk bars and eating about 200cal/hr or so....alternating between the…

I haven't read through all of the responses yet, but did some quick calculations of my own, and here's what I found... 1 box of cake mix is approx. 456g X 2 boxes = 912 grams I did assume cake mix weighs the same as flour (120g/cup). There are 16 Tablespoons per cup, so there are 7.5g/Tablespoon (120 / 16). Which works out…

This has been an issue for me most of my life. My mom used to say that my diapers looked like that had little balls in them, lol. Anyway....I find that eating fruit, especially blueberries (fresh or frozen) helps, as does eating oatmeal daily. I don't eat the oatmeal anymore (no particular reason) and try to get enough…

I am also rushed in the morning for breakfast, and I have to eat. If I don't, I'm a crazy maniac in a few hours. I prefer to eat real foods as opposed to protein powders and such (great for those that like them, but not me). I made up my own breakfast smoothie and have been drinking it during the week for the last few…

In my experience, if you find a reliable way to calculate how many calories you should be eating a day, and stick to it, you should not feel hungry all the time while losing weight. You probably will for the first couple weeks, maybe, while you adjust to smaller serving sizes (or just less food than you are used to…

This is what I was going to offer. This is what I am doing. So far I'm able to eat back all of MFPs exercise calories and am losing. If I stall, then the plan is to reduce them as described above. ~Chelle
-
Hey there! I eat also. I, too, don't get how people can eat 1000 cal or less a day. I am 39 and used MFPs questionnaire to determine my calorie goals (I believe it's set for 1lb loss per week). Most days I eat every calorie (and sometimes more). I also use MFPs exercise logging and eat those calories back also. This is my…

A quick question for those using smartphones. How long does your battery last? I started using a free app on my smartphone last year, but after a few hours of riding the battery was nearly dead. How do you get around that? ~Chelle

I do them both. I need the weekly meetings that WW provides, but I prefer to log on MFP to keep track of my % of fat, protein, and carbs because I cycle. ~Chelle

Add me to the list of those that love black beans. Currently I am having them with a brown rice/veg/protein mix for lunch. I buy the Reduced Sodium canned ones and rinse them well. I add a packet of the Uncle Ben's ready rice brown rice and a bag of frozen broccoli florets. Mix it together and divide in three. That plus…

Congrats on riding to work! The only advice I can offer is about snot, lol. My nose seems like a fountain when I ride, and if I tried snot-rockets I'd be covered in them! I wear a camelbak and have a bandana tied to one of the loops on it, so I can wipe my nose with that so I don't have to sniff every time. ~Chelle

No shakes or anything in mine. Mine should be open. I just got back into tracking the last few days, so there isn't too much in there. I do eat bars when I cycle, but I haven't started that yet for this season (Tuesday!). ~Chelle

I'll second the Peanut Butter & Co peanut butter! I love it! I prefer the Bee's Knee's (pb & honey), the maple and the crunchy. Justin's is ok, but a little grainier than PB&C. I do like that Justin's comes in packets and buy those when I'm traveling. ~Chelle

I like their rustico bread (one of the few I can find without soy in it), and the middle eastern flatbreads (for making home made pizza). I also love their selection of fruits/veg and meat. I buy their Olive Oil popcorn too, tastier and easier than air-popping at home, and not much more calories. ~Chelle

I used to have something similar to this as an afternoon snack. I would take a Trader Joe's flatbread, put a Tbsp of peanut butter down the center, and wrap it around a peeled banana. YUM! ~Chelle

A few years ago, I noticed I was more on-edge than normal, and that it had been going on for a few months. I thought about what might be different, and realized the only real difference was that I had changed which brand of oatmeal I was buying (I was eating 2-3 packets a day). I checked the labels and found that the new…

Took the words right out of my mouth. Estrogens ARE hormones..... if you prefer milk, buy hormone-free. The brand I buy pledges to buy from farmers that don't give their cows hormones.

I know know off the top of my head if these have nuts in them, but I know they don't have soy in them. Some of the flavors I buy have nuts/peanut butter in them, but I think there are some that don't. If you're allergic, they may not be made in a nut-free facility. I normally eat these when cycling, so I don't know if they…
