I don’t agree with those that are pushing red meat and pork and saying dairy and eggs are OK. Lean chicken and turkey, any green vegetables you can eat, sweet potatoes, cauliflower rice, squashes. Processed carbs have a greater effect on raising cholesterol than previously thought. Don’t eat things you are allergic to as…

Walking is a good idea. It can help with your recuperation (movement - the right kind - is good because it keeps your muscles warm and the blood flowing to help heal.

I just watched a Ted Talk about motivation and how humans only keep things up through pure motivation for a short period of time. There are many other techniques we can use to help us reach our goals. I wish I could remember the name of the talk, but there are some good ones that talk about changing your environment to…

That’s so weird to me, that weight loss could cause pain. Weight loss relieves my back and neck pain and my headaches - which are probably from my back and neck strain. I carry my weight up top, so when I lose, it relieves the compression of my spine. I hope things start to clear up for you soon. It’s got to be so…

Lack of butt padding is a real issue! Trying to roll in yoga is painful! When I was down to my goal weight last time, my biggest issue was unwanted attention from men. At the drug store, grocery store, while riding my bike! I think that’s one of the reason I started gaining it back. I was really uncomfortable with the…

Wow I’m amazed. How can you eat that many calories! That’s how I gained my weight. Even if I exercised for 2 hours a day, I couldn’t eat that many calories. Good for you!

I agree with changing your body composition instead. You don’t exercise. Is it because you don’t like it? Weight lifting 3 times a week can really make a difference in how you look and feel. Also what you eat can affect satiety. Typically lean protein and vegetables fill you up better than simple carbs and even fruit, due…

I’ve read that your fat cells can pull in water to try and maintain homeostasis. Unfortunately we can lose fat, but our little empty storage cells remain. It sucks.
-
That sounds amazing. I love to ride my bike and you’ve inspired me to hike more!

I understand. I hate thinking about food too much, so I meal prep and plan, so the diet part is easy to put into place because it gives me a focus and then once it is prepped, I just grab and go. I really need the extra protein and veggies to keep me on track and I had to add weight lifting to jump start me from a plateau.

I don’t know that pose. I’ll have to look it up! Good goals.

I had a protein shake, piece of cold leftover chicken breast, watermelon, 2 T pumpkin seeds, and one caramel rice cake. It’s probably better if you make that salmon. Lol Pan sear it. It’s so good that way!

This is a GREAT article. The other thing I’ve read about is your fat cells pulling in water as fat is removed to try and maintain homeostasis. Eventually the water will flush out of the fat cells, but it makes the scale stay the same. Some people measure instead of weigh. That may help you get through the rough patches,…

I can’t have some food in my house. For me it’s snack chips. I have no control, so I just don’t buy them and if they are anywhere else, at parties or work, I stay away. I needed to up my protein and vegetable intake too. When you eat more bulky, lower calorie foods, you tend to feel full and it’s easier to avoid the food…

Our bodies are complex and you are always fighting a metabolism that wants to slow to conserve weight. I hit a 2 week plateau for no reason. My doctor recommended I decrease my calories and add more exercise to jump start the weight loss again. I added weight lifting to my cardio. It helped. Maybe you could try adding…

I agree swimming is a good idea. Try cycling too? If you don’t tax yourself, you could probably do 20 minutes on a light setting. Lifting free weights with your upper body is a great idea! You could work out your chest, back, arms, and shoulders with no strain to your lower body, and many benefits to your upper body!

It was smart of you to go back in your car and ask about the rabies shot! Whenever I’m chased by a dog on my bike, I stop and start talking to the dog in a soft friendly voice, let it sniff the back of my hand, and wait for the owner, or for the dog to become uninterested. I’ve made friends with a few pooches on my route.…

My daughter has an impinged hip. You can see a small bone protrusion into the hip socket on the X-ray. They wanted to do surgery last summer, but we put it off until she finishes growing. It hurts when she runs, plays tennis, or stands for long periods of time. She has a tens machine and that helps with the pain.

I guess my 4 cups of spinach a day isn’t going to turn me into a super athlete then?

Ditch the running. Try cycling classes, biking outside, Zumba, kayaking, rowing, swimming, an elliptical. I ran for three years and stopped because it was too hard on my body. No one says you have to run to lose weight or to feel good or to be fit. Right now I am lifting weights 3 times a week and cycling 3 times a week,…

Except that I don’t do the same thing for cardio, only weight lifting, and if I wasn’t weight lifting, I wouldn’t be drinking a protein shake because I wouldn’t need the additional protein, so I don’t count the additional protein towards my macro goals.
-
Mine is 130 calories and I do not count it. It is going towards refueling my muscles after my work out, so I take it as a zero sum game and don't worry about it. I also do not eat back weight lifting calories, only cardio, so I guess if you eat back your calories when you weight lift, it would be similar.

11 mile bike ride today.

I was going to say - Do NOT do it twice a day - swim, walk, yoga, cycle if you want to get more time in. Most of the people I know that do cross fit eventually hurt themselves - usually their back or knee. Go into it too intensely and you may be dealing with injury. Then I saw your post. How about a regular gym membership…

I alternate body parts, so one part may be sore, but I am working out a different part. I usually space my weight training out so on alternate days I do cardio. For example, I usually do shoulders and lower body one day, biceps and triceps another, and back and chest a third. I do cardio in between, so it's 3 days of…

I get headaches after lifting weights when doing back or shoulders. I think my headaches are related to my neck and back - when my husband rubs my back/neck the day after lifting, he can feel the knots and they are sore during massage, but feel better after. I am going to try therapeutic massage with a local physical…

I just started lifting again after some injuries. I am excited to be back.

To increase my weight training frequency and increase my protein intake so I can maintain muscle mass as I lose weight.

I am going to guess that you are not eating within your calorie range consistently as you are not tracking consistently. Many days are blank or only breakfast is logged and when you do track, you are not eating enough calories - so you are probably eating too little and then eating too much. I completely get it. I started…

Look into collagen - for those of us that are getting older (me), it has many benefits - joints, hair, nails, skin, heart, muscles.
