When I was obese, it took like 20 lbs for me to notice anything. Now that I'm in the normal BMI range, it takes about 4-5 lbs for me to see a difference. But it's not just pounds coming off either - since I started doing circuit training classes 1 hour/week my upper body has become a totally different shape. That took…

I would never get a work-out video. I find them boring and just horrible. That...and there are PLENTY of free ones online, so it's a total waste of money too. Check out 'Fitness Blender' they have awesome videos that are super easy to follow up on youtube.

I don't lose weight if I'm not slightly hungry at bed-time. I am hungry on maintenance. It doesn't matter how much I balance things, or how much I work with a registered dietician/nutritionist. I have an incredibly voracious appetite and I can pack down food like my life depended on it. I don't go to bed…

I'm pretty chill about it, but thank you for your concern, I think? This is not just a "debate" forum, it's a help forum as well. I can have an analysis about haughty replies that I think are more about self-aggrandizing posturing than actually wanting to help & educate people, without having a myocardial infarction -…

I can be here if I please, dear.

Anytime anyone says anything about CICO, calories vs. nutrition, starvation mode myth, or cleanses/detoxes, a predictable host of people come out of the woodwork who comment in antagonistic, curt, demeaning ways. They pounce on any hint of a mis-spoken word about these debates that get rehashed here, honestly, ever…

You have lost the equivalent of: ...30 guinea pigs ...6 chihuahuas ...20 large eggs ...1 cinder block, minus the weight of a human brain ...Half of an Elephant's penis ...Your average-sized 2 year-old + 3.33 Krispy Kreme donuts You're doing great. Just keep your chin up :) It takes time!

Ok. You do your thing then.

Trinty didn't write about carbs, they wrote about sugary drinks. Nutrition is about calories necessary for health and growth, it has a more complex meaning than mere unit of heat energy. Sugar yes has calories, but it is not necessary/desirable for health and growth WHEN LOSING WEIGHT. We can sit and argue semantics all…

@ndj1979 when someone puts quotation marks around words, as this person did with "wasted calories" it is called using SCARE QUOTES. It is a literary tool that allows the author to convey to the reader that what is within the quotes is being used in a "non-standard, ironic, or otherwise special sense" (Source:…

this wouldn't work for me, because of how i drop fat. I always hold steady at a weight for 2-3 weeks, then plummet 2-3 lbs at once. It's how I roll...so if I rested on my laurels, or (simmered my laurels in a big giant pot of stew and ate it) I just wouldn't lose. That being said, I set my intake to 1700/day which means I…

It took me 4 years to reach my goal, and lose 125 lbs. I don't know if it's because of my genes, my young age at the time, or the SLOW rate, but I am very luckily to have minimal loose skin from all that weight loss too. I attribute it to a little bit of all of them. Now i'm in the 'normal' BMI range, but heading toward…

I've found all I need is about 4-5 days. I take a backpack full of food, grab a friend or lover, and go on a 4 day hike. Four days of constant movement, walking 6-10 hours a day with a full backpack gets me SO fit. I can only eat what I carry, so I eat on a great schedule and get myself out of snacking habits. I want to…

I hate any cola drink. I hate apples. I hate beer.

I eat back 20%-25% of my exercise calories, as MFP calculates them (or adjusted to the exercise machine I was using, if I was using one). I would NEVER include the "steps I take in a day" as exercise calories though, unless it was a purposeful long walk that I did. I don't count steps tho. So for example, I am now set to…

How creative!!

I used to when I was growing, but since then have stopped. And I can do without all that sugar, anyway. Now cheese and yogurt are my dairy products of choice, and I eat them daily :) I also like to get my calcium from collards, kale, arugula, bok choy, etc. Otherwise I'm pretty low, day to day.

My fiance was into boobs until he met me. I turned him into an *kitten*-man. He'll never go back. I have to like a guy's smell. They have to be gentle, and treat me sweetly. They have to play with me and be ridiculous and not take themselves too seriously.

It's biological (not sexist...just different), and statistical (but you men are working on this one and the stats are changing, so Kudos!) According to pew, women still spend twice as much time taking care of kids per week, and almost twice as much time doing housework. So needing to know how to get exercise in w/ kids…

oh my god i have to weigh my prepackaged stuff 0.0 that may be a game-changer!

I LOVE this scale. Cost $15, and I have had it 2 years, still going strong: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FF1WJ0I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage It can do oz, lbs, fluid ounces, grams, and ml. It can TARE, and go up to 11 lbs of weight.

@SeanNJ I read stuff like this all the time back when doing my MPH. And I believe you've exactly made my point above! Works for some, not for all. So...awesome! We agree.

 ethnology...right. no physical anthropologist worth their degree would agree that paleo has any basis in reality. it's an absurd concoction, but if it works for someone then you go ahead and do your thing.

I eat back 20% at most. First, because I am pretty sure that MFP over-estimates by 10-40% of any given exercise, and second, because I don't need more than that! I ran 4.4 miles up and back down a mountain today, and logged ate back only 120 calories for it.

when you can't wear skirts on hot days because your thighs chafe themselves until your skin is raw when you exclude yourself from activities with friends because you don't know if you'll be able to keep up when you learn to make your own clothes because nothing in the store for ppl your size look good when (at 17) all the…
