  • I enjoy all of the things I do, or I wouldn't do them. However, it hasn't always been this way. When I was out of shape, it was hard to exercise. Now that I'm fit, it's ecstatic. I love it ;)
  • I like mixing things up. Currently I bike 20-30 minutes a day for commute. I do an hour of intensive circuit training 1-2 times per week. I run 4-7 miles up and down a 1000 foot incline hill/mountain once every week or two. And sometimes I go for an extra hike or low-key bike ride in between.
  • Girl if you are interested in comparing check out this website: http://www.mybodygallery.com/ It's just random people who put up pictures of themselves. You can enter your height, weight, etc, and then see what other people with your stats look like. It's eye-opening and awesome. It also goes to show that the scale isn't…
  • She can do whatever she wants. It's her body. Stressing about looking thin can be pretty unhealthy. People tend to only think about metabolic health when they see someone who is overweight or obese, but there's a gazillion other factors to think about.
  • I went from 290 lbs and hardly able to walk more than 2 miles to now 170 lbs (5'10", female) who can run 7 miles up and down mountains, and I'm happy where I am. (I'm not pushing for marathons or anything). I know the struggle of getting into shape from the couch. I also did it before there were any apps to tell you how to…
  • Hey! I didn't lose that much, but I did lose 125 lbs. And i've kept it off for 6 years. But losing 125 lbs took me 3 years! Yes, it can be done faster, but this is about your long-term future. Don't expect fast results. This is for your life. You can do this!
  • I've lost 125 lbs (5'10" female) and I have loose skin and lots of stretch marks. I've kept off the weight for 6+ years. The stretch marks are on my tummy, inner thighs, the whole inside of my arms down to my elbow, all down my side from my armpit to my hips, on my breasts, and my upper calves. They're everywhere. The only…
  • If I actually go to do real exercise (not just like a walk to the store or around my office building) then I eat back 50% of them.
  • God forbid humans need attention. Really, we should just be isolated little self-healing machines. /sarcasm Your comment makes you sound like a wanker. Are you a wanker?
  • That makes sense. With a low heart rate I burn 60-70 kcal an hour doing nothing, so I guess 680-690 gross kcal. @sweetpea813 I usually only log and eat back about 50% of what I burn, because it helps build a buffer for bad logging ;)
  • Wow...this so puts height into perspective! I'm 5'10" and 170 lbs right now, and I'm an 8/10. Also...great job!
  • The effects of a "weight loss corset" are temporary. If you want a flat belly you have to lose fat and gain muscle in the area.
  • At my hour-long circuit training classes I get about 750 kcal burn. I've gotten this same average with different HRMs. I'm 170 lbs and 5'10" female. I'm relatively strong and have a resting heart rate of about 50 bpm but it goes up fast. During circuit training I am absolutely going all-out, full body, for the entire hour.…
  • Yup. I've also found that if I start the day with something sugary I crave sugary the rest of the day. Save my sugars until after 3-4pm if not later.
  • holy crap did i really just read two pages of posts about how 70 different people like their eggs? yes, yes i did. eggs are great. egg whites are also great.
  • Perhaps because I don't know the inner workings of your family I don't see a conflict here. First, high-protein diets are great for losing weight and feeling full while you do it. If you cook dinner for you and your hubby, he can just choose to eat more of it than you. Or he can eat more of the protein and carbs, and you…
  • If it's your jam to have your heartrate up on a screen in front of everyone else, maybe. That would not be motivating for me, it would scare me away from going. I don't like competition, it doesn't motivate me. I bought my own heart rate monitor and do my own 500-1000 calorie workouts for much cheaper ;)
  • Wow, I wouldn't want to have you as a friend. As someone who lost 125 lbs, this is real.
  • I don't like wearing something ALL the time (only during workouts/bicycle commutes), so I use a PolarA300. Very affordable, and can also sync to an app on your phone. I love it.
  • Holy crap that's ridiculous. I'm sorry you had to experience that, and those scabby dobbers can shove it. Can you call out their rudeness? I would definitely go back and tell the managers. If it happens again, maybe 1) loudly repeat back what they said as a question, "DID YOU JUST TELL ME I SHOULDN'T EAT BECAUSE I'M FAT?…
  • I take prenatal because BABIES! And I also like Emergen-C, and i have one usually every other day or so. Just cuz.
  • No, nothing?
  • Sure, @SugarySweetheart , along with a lot of muscle and your sanity.
  • The first question will always, always be: are you logging correctly? How are you measuring? Scale? Measuring cups? Eyeballing?
  • I reckon there may be a discrepancy between Total Calories Burned (TCB) and Net Calories Burned (NCB). TCB is the sum of the calories you would have burned just sitting around on your bum + the extra calories you burned doing your activity. NCB is ONLY the calories you burned doing your activity, so NCB will always be…
  • Hey there, Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. I am an MPH who studies health statistics, and who has lots of personal family experience with diabetes. I imagine you are talking, in both cases, about Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 makes up about 90-95% of diabetes cases in the world. (Type 1 used to be typically referred…
  • I hate classes as well. For some reason, circuit training is my jam. I don't have to talk to anyone, because the music is loud and everyone else is focusing on what they're doing. I don't know anyone in the class after 5 months, and it's great that way. I am not sure about the muscle/fat thing...sounds like some…
  • apple earbuds are the only ones that work well for me without any bumping feedback, or falling out. It may just be my earshape? I have a piercing in one tragus, so it sometimes falls out of that one, but not much.
  • Congrats on getting back on it! How long are your walks? Just a walk and 30 minutes on the elliptical isn't likely going to be too much of anything...it sounds pretty low-key, as long as you're eating enough to sustain yourself. Also, if you have access I recommend finding a circuit training class or something that…
