I used to use the Zip, which I liked a lot. Now I have an apple watch.

With your thyroid, it's really unlikely most of this is fat gain. You've got fluid issues and everything else going on. And you KNOW that it's messing with your emotions. Talk to your doctor. You can get this under control. It's complicated - but get back on track. You can do this.

That is AMAZING! Congratulations. Yes, this app is invaluable.

First, every single day I look in the mirror I am so happy that I've lost it. Every time I step on the scale that's a triumph. I've maintained six years. Second, I am an old professor surrounded by young students. And it is really clear that they consider me slim and trim and not a fat old fart. If weight comes up, it's…

It is so impressive you've lost that weight! I second the sports bra. Give yourself some time. My breasts reshaped themselves over six months and I had nothing like the weight loss you did. Congratulations!

I'm 59 and have been logging and maintaining 6 years. I don't obsess - it's kind of like brushing my teeth. I just log and, because I've changed my habits and am very attentive to how hungry I am, I rarely have to limit myself. A couple of things I do have to do: - I get on the scale every morning. It keeps me honest. If I…

I lost weight a few months after I started to maintain. Then I plateaued. Then I started to gain. My calories and my activity level were stable (I used a fitbit an then apple watch to measure). I think my body changed. If you're happy with the loss, stick to it. You'll probably even out. You can add in more calories - up…

I would have a quarter cup of ice cream with nut almost every night. I also have some licorice (which I love) or a chocolate bar. I eat one piece of one square at a time. I'm fine with that.

It absolutely could. Follow your hunger and eat healthy for the next few weeks and see what happens. But the holidays are over. Back to real life.

The research says portion creep gets you. I also know that the research says that reasonable exercise is critical for maintenance. I know it is for me - if I don't walk my weight creeps up no matter how little I eat. I also know for my body - I don't know about yours - carbs are key. If more than 40% of my calories are…

I always care about what I eat, but I eat foods that taste really good and don't eat so much that I feel lousy. My calories are always over this week - but not by a lot.

Every time we have this discussion numbers bounce around by 1000 calories. I think people log differently and their bodies are different and what they count - raw or net - differs. Bottom line: I think you need to start with what it tells you, log consistently, and weigh. If you loose weight add calories. If you gain…

She must be a LOT younger than me. I maintain at a net of less than 1300. Maybe it's my logging, but I have been doing this a long time. I'm 5'10" and about to turn 60. When I was younger I could eat anything - I maintained a healthy weight until my late 40s without paying attention. But I started to creep up without…

I'm 59 and I've been here a LONG time too. If I don't walk every day the weight creeps back. My other enemy is carbs. If they get over 40% for more than few days I have a hard time maintaining - I see it on the scale the next day. Protein is my friend! Yeah, my calories are lower than they used to be. A lot lower. OTOH, I…

I also love sweets. I log all of them. I eat a little of the best and enjoy every bite. I don't eat too many.

Like people say: BMI is about populations not individuals. With all that great muscle you have no worries. For those of us who are average, it is a decent guideline.

I think I've done this 6 years - I've never missed a meal logging I don't think. I do it as a habit - like brushing my teeth and putting on moisturizer. I log everything. I weigh every morning. I lost 38 pounds when I was at the bottom of my five pound target 'zone'. I'm now around 3 pounds out of my zone but dropping…

For me it's not desert, per se, it's any carb. I eat too many - one lousy piece of cake - and gain 3-4 pounds the next day. It's obviously water. But it looks lousy anyway. You, on the hand, look like you've been working hard! Nice job.

I had that same issue after five years of maintenance. Part of it may be age. Part of it was that I count exercise calories and I play the banjo and so I was slowly overeating because banjo was counting as steps (no joke). Part of it was my carbs got too high. When I adjust my carbs to under 35% of maintain or lose. Over…

When I started to maintain I added carbs. That made me hungry. Go with fats and proteins. You'll find your way.

I'm 5'10" and 155 but I am almost 60 and maintain at 1230 net. I obviously get another 100 or so from moving, but still.

YES! Every darn time. And if I'm on a plane my ankles swell to double their size, I gain 5-10 pounds and it takes two weeks to come off.

This is something you have to learn. I have learned to pay really careful attention to how I feel later. I know that when I eat until I am full I feel gross later. If I eat until I am stuffed I feel really sick. I focus a lot on the enjoyable qualities of food. I also try really hard to eat delicious food. In general I…

Yes. Although I log it hasn't determined my eating for years. Sometimes it reassures me that - yes I am really hungry and I can eat what I hunger for. Because I average over the week logging doesn't stop me from eating. I'm not sure what that has to do with cooking from scratch though. Even when I eat out I can tell when…

The ones I loved I altered myself. The ones I didn't I donated. I looked SO much better in thin clothes. And it's a commitment. Six years and no regrets.

I hate to be repetitive, but I'm going to be. I like logging. It works well for me. My husband can't do it. He has needed to loose weight (60 pounds) for years. He had been a yo yo dieter and it never stuck. He also can't stick with MFP to save his life. When my doctor put me on the Whole 30 plan in May for health reasons,…

I did that in year 6 (only 10 pounds, but same thing). Logging did not help - I've been meticulous. I'm supposedly on a deficit. For me I needed more exercise (yes I really need to move that hour a day and hit that cardio for 30 minutes). I also need carbs lower than 40%. That's not low carbs, it means upping my protein.…

You look awesome!

I did the same thing after six years I think. Last May my doctor put my on the Whole30 diet for reasons other thn weight loss. I did it with my husband. He and I both - him without logging - lost 6 pounds in a month. I dropped 5 without changing calories. The primary change was not calories, it was macros. My protein went…
