No, I don't already have a hip replacement, it's just that I'm still relatively young, so if I got it now (and live long enough!) there's a good chance I'd need another replacement at some point and it seems there aren't very good results with them .... I suppose obviously most people having them will be quite elderly so…

Looks like we have all been busy! I now know my grandbaby is a boy. I had guessed a girl, ha ha! We're having a restructure at work which is slightly stressful. I'm glad I only work part-time, at least. It's funny, I remember us talking about retirement years ago. I had the option to retire at 55 and was looking at doing…

Oh, I meant to say, I read an interview with a British personal trainer called Rosemary Mallace. She's in her 70s and her workouts are aimed at older people. They are a bit easy for me at the moment but I've subscribed for future planning! https://www.youtube.com/@rosemarymallacesassy

The baby is due on July! I'm already trying to find the balance between giving helpful advice and stepping back and letting two very intelligent and capable young people to do their own thing! I'm the same with the 80% thing, Snoozie ... I eat too fast, and I'm capable of putting away a huge amount of food without feeling…

That's really good news about your muscle mass! Well done on getting to the yoga class, and going again on Friday. That sounds like more than baby steps! And organising the trivia event too! You are both so good at the social stuff ... I really need to do more of that. That's an interesting idea about stopping eating when…

How's the gym going, Suzy? It has been really cold here too, but getting warmer for the last couple of days (although there are gales and floods now! Thankfully I'm not affected apart from my fence blowing down. I hope you're managing to get things sorted with the insurance, Snoozie. Actually moving everything out and…

That is great that you have a gym in your condo! Two gyms! That would be wonderful to be able to go the gym without having to leave the building! Are there any classes, or is it just free use of the equipment? Yes, I can see it would help to have a programme. But maybe just try it out a couple of times to "warm up". Five…

Getting stronger is a great priority! What sort of plan are you thinking of? I get you on the all or nothing mindset. Why do we do that? I have been thinking about that myself and I thnk that if I mess up it feels like an opportunity to eat even more and I don't want to miss that opportunity ... you are right about the…

Oh I did post here. Thank you, Snooozie, for guiding us to the right place! Well, it appears I didn't start yesterday, so am starting from today, really trying to get back on track. I can feel some of my old thinking coming back, which is what has caused my struggle in the first place. These kind of thoughts: "It's only a…

I definitely left a comment here yesterday, but I can't see it today. Strange. I won't repeat it in case you can all see it! But Happy New Year, just in case you can't!

Happy New Year! I hope it's a good one for all of us! You are so right, Snoozie. Let's really enjoy this one!

I'm having problems posting here so hope this gets through. Yes, that last one is great! We waste far too much energy beating ourselves up about the past, whether it's yesterday, last week or years ago. We need to start from where we are, without judgment. I kind of needed that thought, as I am fed up today about the…

Well, I'm back now. What a trip! Hamburg and Helsinki were both beautiful. It was snowing in both cities, particularly Helsinki where it snowed the whole time I was there and was so cold that my phone battery kept shutting down! Unbelievably, I queued outside for hours to get to the front to see the band I like and did get…

I maybe didn't mention it! It has been a bit of a wild idea. The band I'm following have a festival in Hamburg, and it just so happens that this year I was able to get travel insurance, for a massive, massive premium because of my various health conditions, but I thought, I haven't been on a holiday abroad for years and…

I'm sorry Snoozie, but I really laughed at you making the most of it when you thought you were going to back on meds anyway! I'm sure I would have done exactly the same! Good luck getting back to better eating. I don't know if I said I'm having some (more) expensive dental work at the moment. I lost a crown and it needs an…

Happy Thanksgiving, Suzy! It's a time of feasting and family, so don't be hard on yourself if you eat a bit more than usual. I find the same when cooking sometimes though, I'm kind of bored with the food by the time it's finished! Maybe a good thing! Very kind of you to host family and do so much cooking! Hope you have a…

Our clocks changed to too, although back to the "normal", Greenwich Mean Time. But just about everbody prefers British Summer Time! I hope you're feeling a bit better now, Suzy. So funny about your husband whispering too! I haven't been walking much either, because of my hip. It's such a delicate balance, getting exercise…

https://youtu.be/7XrntcEUjLM?si=3r-PSKZYTjjqRvSP Oh, this is the video I mentioned. A follow-up to one I posted a while back. It's quite long but have been listening while doing other things and there's some things I'll take from it. I find it a bit motivating to listen to something like that. Then I get all fired up…

I'm sorry you've been sick, Suzy. There's so much going around. Hopefully one of those three day things, and you'll be better by Monday. I think it probably doesn't help with your lifestyle that you have been so busy with childcare and guests. It makes things so much more difficult, and of course you're making food for…

Hope you're having a lovely Thanksgiving! I love that you do a proper little celebratory meal!

That size of group sounds quite unwieldy! Well done for managing to get it all organised! I suppose with the blood sugars at least you know what's up, and could do something about it. It would be more worrying if they were going up for no good reason. I so agree that it's easy to get out of the good habits. I've found the…

Oh Suzy, that's a bit much. I know you can't say anything, but maybe your son-in-law might have thought it's not great timing to go on a jolly! Would be different if it was a work trip that he couldn't avoid. And a three-year-old fulltime for a few days as well? That's a bit much to ask. I'd be tempted to say no. It'd be…

Have a lovely vacation, Suzy! It does sound quite exciting. I would love to see those places. I'm slowly getting better. I even did a little bit of exercise today, although really dialled down from my usual. I'm still a bit unsteady on my feet at times.
-
Just popping in quickly - so lovely to see you, Gail! I'm glad you found us. It seems harder to navigate here now. Thanks for the update on your family. Sorry about the gut thing, Snoozie. Maybe you are just more sensitive after your thing, wow, two years ago already! But glad it's clearing up and everything else seems…

My son checked in me a bit. My daughter-in-law wanted to send me to hospital! Yes, it's a bit strange on your own. I was quite confused some of the time, and kind of too ill to be scared even. People from work have messaged me asking if I needed anything, which was nice. But while I was most ill I was on days off so nobody…

Sorry, I've been MIA too. I got covid and have been pretty ill while I had it, and then only recovering very slowly. Yesterday was the first day I could sit up instead of lying down. I'm definitely on the mend now, but very slow and not thinking clearly. Have lost a load of weight but I'm sure will go back on again now…

I didn't get an alert that you'd posted, Suzy! No, it's not wrong at all! Five days in a row of ten and a half hour shifts? That sounds completely exhausting! It's one thing in your 30s, but another thing in your 60s! October is quite a few weeks off though. Not my business at all, but it seems like you are doing an awful…

Yes, you can. I found the MFP exercise calories were an over-estimate for me, personally. I ended up just increasing my calories by an average amount and not logging exercise and that worked better for me.

That's amazing that your mom is still improving! And that you are hopefully able to step back a bit, both with her and the grandkids. Congratulations on the scale loss! The garden is a mess. I have done a LOT of work, but all that digging up of roots I was doing seems to have encouraged them to grow even more than before!…

I think the "calories out" are quite difficult to measure. I found with some experimentation that the MFP estimates were too high, and I changed over to just having a set amount. When I was your size, if I remember, I think I could lose on about 1600 calories, but only very slowly. I would not have lost weight on 1900. In…
