I know a lot of people differ and there are those that rarely if ever weigh themselves, but I find weighing daily helps keep me focused on the end goal. When I stop weighing I start to slide off the wagon. I think it's quite an individual thing though.

I wondered this myself, so I kept track of the predictions for a while and found that I was a couple of kilos heavier than MFP predicted.

It does seem like a strange question to me, honestly. But I'll bite anyway: 1. I became veg for ethical reasons. Although some meat smells make me feel sick (pork for example), I didn't become veg because I didn't like the taste of meat. So I don't see any reason not to eat them. I like variety in my diet. That said, some…

Hi OP. Sorry you have so many jerks replying in your thread. I, for one, can relate. My mum's a bit like this. When I lived at home she'd tell me I need to lose weight then bring home chips, cake and soft drinks. For what it's worth, I don't think it's deliberate sabotage. In the minds of a lot of mothers, food = love and…

This. If I can't log accurately (because for eg. I ate a huge meal at a restaurant), I estimate the amount of calories and write in the notes a description of what I ate and when. I want to keep a record of it so I can spot patterns that might have caused the binge. Also, it helps me more clearly see that the food calories…

Yep, I had exactly the same thing happen to me a while back.

I find that if I don't count calories I way underestimate how much I eat and I don't lose anyway. Luckily MFP makes it really easy to keep track of calories.

*puke* Condescending jerk probably trying to hit on you. Ignore him. Don't bother trying to argue. Just don't engage the crazy. P.S. You look smashing.

Well, I care because I want to make the best decisions I can about my diet and health and there is a lot of conflicting information presented as fact on this message board. I don't have an emotional attachment to any particular position. I only care about the truth. I've been pretty conflicted about 'eating my exercise…

In the grand scheme of things, falling down for one week won't matter. It's only if you fall down and STAY down that you've truly failed. I know you can do it!

Yesterday I managed to easily fit into a pair of jeans that I had previously stopped wearing because they dug in too much. Edit: Not sure why, but I used to get an allergic rash on my forearms. I hasn't happened now for many weeks.

The dried fruit+rum-mixture I was soaking overnight for making Christmas cakes. A whole can of sweetened, condensed milk.

Looking good. Congratulations on your hard work.

Fantastic work.

Yep I weigh just about all calorie dense foods: muesli, milk, yoghurt, cheese, fruit, grains, etc. I don't normally weigh non-starchy vegies because they are so light in calories it doesn't have to be accurate. I also don't weigh single serving packages of stuff. It's pretty amazing what difference there is between…

Yes, most people do have this mentality. That's why the divorce rate is at about 50+% in the US. If there's something wrong with your partner, dump 'em and find another one. Personally I think the fact that she is sticking with him is laudable. I hope she can help him through this.

+ a dozen or so other similar remarks. What is with all the negative comments? Do you guys really think that people are ONLY going to eat the food on this list? Of course they aren't. It's just a list of some not so obvious foods that people have found useful when dieting because they allow you to consume bulk without…

I was really hoping to like this, but even though the flavour is ok I really, really don't like the texture. I can't stand the way it rolls around your mouth; it just feels bizarre. Is it possible to prepare it in some way to make it better?
-
I have a related question. I always understood that cooking food changes the amount of available calories in food. Does anyone who how much this impacts different raw foods and how well MFP takes this into account?
-
I agree, breaking monumental tasks down into smaller, more manageable ones is a good idea. Makes them seem more achievable somehow and not so daunting. I haven't broken my goals down into such small increments but my current goal is not my final one (I hope!), I plan to reach that and then reassess.

I used to be paranoid that people were checking out my shopping basket but then I convinced myself that nobody in the world gives a damn. Guess I'm back to hiding my protein bars under a magazine again. :ohwell:

Agreed. It's good you can shake off a little dog-piling OP!

Thanks for the info guys. I ordered both a fitbit and the FT4 from Amazon yesterday. If the HRM works out I might go for one of the more expensive models later on. When I told my husband about it he looked crestfallen and wanted to know why I didn't order for him too!

So what was the total in the end?

Seven years ago I lost a fair bit of weight, going from 270 lbs to 180 lbs. I managed to keep it off for a few years until I got married, moved to a different country and made a bunch of other lifestyle changes that sent me back up to 235 lbs :o( That's my background. I never ran when I was losing or maintaining, but then…

I always listen to music while I exercise and I find it really helps me keep the rate up and the motivation high. If I don't use music I tend to slow down. I make a playlist on You tube so that I can mix it up when I get bored. Music types: industrial, electro and 80s pop music. Anything with a strong beat.

Thanks for starting this topic. I am getting to the point where I am thinking of buying one of these myself. I read some reviews on Amazon for the polar FT7 that concerned me. I hope you don't mind if I tack some questions on here Xiaolongbao. Is it true that the date can only be displayed in US format? Do you need to get…

They get into this in parts three and four. Really interesting stuff. So glad I watched this.

Just finished part one. I was worried a little at the beginning that it was going to be one of those feel good documentaries that's light on facts and heavy on propaganda but it has been totally absorbing and more than a little alarming. I am already planning to make hubby watch it later. jnh17: I really think you…
