  • It may be better to spread your runs out and run longer instead of everyday. When you start running distance, you have to gradually build up to it or you will get tired and experience dead legs. Running longer and further requires that you build up those leg muscles and use proper running form including breathing. Distance…
  • It's exciting to become a runner and you just want to get out there and run! But you can't run faster than you can breathe!
  • I ran my first 5k at over 300 lbs so don't be afraid of committing to one. What I saw on the course were a lot people just like me and some that couldn't even run but were willing to walk it. It's a huge confidence builder and I encourage all new runners and beginners to commit to a race as a set goal.
  • If your legs are feeling heavy while running, it may be an issue with running too fast and burning up your glycogen storage. I would say slow down, run a little slower and just not concentrate on speed but just running for 30 minutes or an hour. I don't recommend using supplements like GU if you're trying to lose and for…
  • It depends on your activity. I use a HRM (Garmin 410) because I run and I train and run by heart rate. It to me gives a more accurate account of calories burned and distanced traveled. You can also upload your activity to the Garmin database and run reports, analyze data and so much more. It also can be used for cycling…
  • Like many of the others, I started with C25k and fell in love with it! I ran my first 5k about 5 weeks into the program at over 300 lbs! It's been almost 2 years since I've been running and I've already run 3 half marathons and I signed up for a full marathon in May. I've learned a lot about how to run: run at your pace,…
  • I think when you first start running, you become obsessed with speed. You will be able to run further sooner than running faster, that takes time. I would focus on proper running, breathing and running slow to master the basics, speed will come over time. Running slow will allow you to condition your heart for exertion…
  • I've lost over 80 lbs with running being my only source of exercise and running a calorie deficit. What I did learn was I needed to improve my nutrition post workout. I consume more protein than I did before to make sure I my body did not go in a catabolic state. I run about 25 - 30 miles a week a have a daily calorie goal…
  • I've got a half mary next weekend and another for June.
  • Mother or not, you have only known her a couple of years and that's not enough to trust someone with a valuable possession. If they can't understand, then they weren't thinking of YOU anyway!
  • I've done the C25k and the C210k and currently working on a half marathon. I started running last April when I was around 315lbs! I ran my first 5k at 300lbs and finished in 41 minutes and I was on about week 5 of C25k. I've learned a lot about running and how not to get injured or suffer shin splints, knee pain, dead legs…
  • This is part of an email I got today. I'm sure it was intended as a joke because the nurse that sent it out is on a "diet" where they were using HCG injections. "Everyone is invited to participate  Sign-up sheet is at the nurses station. Kenny please do not bring any health food. " Btw, I'm not on a diet, I eat what I…
  • You can do it. There are some myths about how you train. Run 3 -4x a week with at least one long run of max distance. Its okay to walk too. Don't injure yourself trying to force your body to do something when its not ready. There is a trick running distance, START SLOW! Many start out running too fast and get heavy legs or…
  • Denny's has a list of Fit low calorie menu items.
  • Being in a community of like minded people will keep you motivated. Places like MFP, people don't get tired of hearing your weight loss victories. They can also give you good advice for free. Losing weight isn't rocket science, but it does take some motivation. Find a exercise that you enjoy doing and stick with it. When…
  • Yeah really depends. I Got and ran Saturday and it was about 25 degrees. I layered with a under armour t shirt, a long sleeve wicking shirt that has some fleece underneath, a thin new balance pull over with fleece and a fleece pull over. I wore some new balance wind breaker type running pants and a fleece hat, generic…
  • I was thinking about joining planet fitness to use their treadmills during the winter, its only $10 a month and cheaper than buying a new treadmill. I don't like wasting money on gyms, I have my own equipment.
  • I'm using myasics.us and I love it far. I loaded the app on my phone and it uses your phones GPS and I use the website to log runs on the treadmill. It syncs both one to the other. It also tracks your progress and allows you to compare your progress to others with similar goals. The best thing about it is its FREE!
  • Alcohol...can't do bottom shelf and function the next day!
  • I did but I burnt over 900 calories this morning and still finished the day with a surplus!
  • I'm gonna get it in 1st thing in the morning. Hopefully I'll burn about 900 calories!
  • Thanks for sharing!
  • I weigh in once a week, 1st thing in the morning. I weigh constantly because I'm curious and drink lots of water and sweat a lot when I run.
  • I don't think eating healthy is expensive. What you spend on the front end, you save on the back end with better health and fewer doctors visits. I also think that eating healthy means eating less. I don't consume as much food as I didn't eating healthy. I'm not hungry all the time either. I get a lot of my health…
  • I just bought a pair of Vibrams because they were 50% off. I tried them on before and they felt very comfortable but I remain optimistic. I bought some running shoes before that were expensive and comfortable when I bought them but when I ran in them, they hurt my legs so bad that I had to take them off and walk to my car…
  • Hummus and pita crackers or banana
  • Picking things up, and putting things down...
  • I never liked running before and I the only tool I had to measure my performance was the PT test to complete basic training. I think at that time (I was 20) I had to finish the 2 mile run in 16 minutes. Now I love running! I have to force myself to rest so I don't injure myself. I used the C25k app and the 5k210k app to…
  • I haven't been running a year yet, but when I first started, I couldn't run from light pole to light pole. I run at our NFL teams stadium around the parking lot and about 1 1/2 time around is about a mile. I ran 6.5 miles today and I weigh around 263lbs. When I ran my first 5k, I weighed 299lbs and finished in 40 minutes.
  • What that means to me is that I want someone to workout with me. I don't want her saying "see ya later" when I'm on my way to run or participate in a race. I don't want her dependent on medication to manage issues that can be manage by being active.
