  • For the love of all things holy, take some time off. Trying to overcompensate on the other side is just asking for trouble because you're potentially introducing new problems without solving the original one. I just came off an overworked iliopsoas band (hip flexor) and the only thing that ended up healing it was taking…
  • I could use a little nudge now and then. I'm having a *really* hard time pushing through that last 6 or 7 pounds; I swear I've lost them three times over! It's getting a little discouraging, truth be told. I guess I need a reminder every so often that it's not about the number, but about getting healthy so we can do all…
  • I was JUST reading up on these, and now I'm DYING to run one. There's one in my area this summer and I'm hoping to find a buddy willing to brave it with me. (Or get the husband running 3.1 by then.) They look like a blast!
  • I feel you. I just did my mid-week check-in, and I was POSITIVE that I was going to have lost at least a pound. I mean, I was really kicking *kitten* this week! So I thought. Turns out I gained a pound instead. How depressing! When I saw that number I wanted to cry. Luckily, it just makes me want to work harder. I WILL…
  • Depends. I'm only dropping 25 pounds, so my "fat" clothes are still wearable, if not particularly flattering. Some of my bigger t-shirts and jeans will be kept as work clothes. Some of my nicer jackets and dresses will be altered. But a good majority will be donated. Alternately, I've been hanging on to a lot of too small…
  • First time I went out running I barely managed a mile. Now I'm up to 6. It's all about baby steps. I would suggest that you don't focus on distance or time. Focus on trying to go one block (or telephone pole or blinky dot on the treadmill or whatever works for you) further than you did last time. I find that if I run while…
  • Holy, hell, story of my life. A little on the squishy side. Always tried to eat healthy but eating portions that are too large. And we just discovered that the ethnic restaurant next door to our favorite bar sells something called "doughbboys," which are three kinds of melted cheese and chicken wrapped in dough. Which…
  • I personally like Jif Natural. There's only like, 6 ingredients in it, and I recognize them all. I put 1 tablespoon in my oatmeal every morning, along with a banana. Yum! I realize that some people shy away from it for its fat and calorie count. My philosophy is that on the grand list of all the foods in the world, you…
  • 1/2 c of low fat cottage cheese with 1 tablespoon of homemade apple butter. (Betty Crocker has a super easy, super tasty recipe for only 20 calories per tablespoon.) It sounds a little weird, but it's delish, and only 100 calories! I eat it pretty much everyday after my run for some extra energy and protein!
  • Holy crap, I have this exact same problem! I ran cross-country when I was in high school and I was constantly fighting blisters on my arches. I stopped running for many many years, and when I picked it back up as an adult they re-appeared. I get them no matter what shoes I wear or what kind of terrine I run on. My theory…
  • Try a Stella. Great beer with only 120ish calories per bottle!
  • Welcome! I think you'll be surprised by what you can accomplish with the right tools and a little encouragement. Let's kick *kitten* together! Best,
  • I'm four pounds from my goal of 25 pounds, but I'm holding off on adjusting my wardrobe just yet. I want to get to my goal weight and STAY there for a month, to prove to myself that it wasn't just a fluke, but a true lifestyle change. After I've been at 145 for a month then I'll go through my wardrobe and figure out what…
  • We had this recipe for Apple and Prosciutto Stuffed Chicken last night, and it was delish! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Apple-and-Prosciutto-Stuffed-Chicken-Breast/Detail.aspx I would suggest not bothering with the cream sauce, it actually bogs down the chicken and hides the taste of the stuffing. (Not to mention it's just…
  • I, too, spend many a years groaning about how I *needed* to start eating healthier and get in shape, only to turn around and go to Taco Night at the local bar. This website made a huge difference for me, because it changed my entire way of thinking. I don't feel deprived and hungry and cranky, instead I feel strong and…
  • I just yesterday did a search for side dishes, myself! I found EatingWell.com to be the most useful resource. http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes_menus/collections/quick_side_dish_recipes We tried the Oven-Fried Zucchini Sticks tonight, (yummy, but in desperate need of a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese,) and we'll be trying…
  • I tired to use the Slim Fast drinks as a replacement for breakfast for a while, and it never worked. I was never super crazy about the taste, (it was a little chalky in my opinion, ) and an hour or two later I would be *starving*. Now I prefer to start off the morning with oatmeal made with milk mixed with peanut butter…
  • I've been on Seasonal (4 periods per year) since I was 18. I don't remember any weight gain when I started on it, but I was also 18. Since then, I have not experienced any weight gain due to the pill, just an over-indulgence of cheese and fried things! I will say that Seasonal has been great for me. I hate getting my…
  • I actually eat ice cream almost every night! I make sure I have the calories left for it, and I do eat a lighter ice cream than my husband. But if I've got the calories allowed for it and I did my exercise today, why the hell can't I have some ice cream? Isn't that the point of the MFP theology, that I can eat what I want…
  • I, too, plan to leave myself some calories for late at night. My favorite nighttime treat is something I call my Bedtime Drink. It's warm milk with vanilla and a hint of honey. Not only does it keep away the late night munchies, but it's so warming and soothing! I swear, it knocks me out almost instantly!
  • Hello, Michigan pretty! I grew up not far from you in Jackson, MI, but I now reside in Upstate New York. MFP has been an invaluable tool for me, and I hope it helps you in your journey, too. I know we can kick *kitten* together! Best,
  • I do better if I'm outside and don't have a clock/pedometer in front of my face. It's easier to let my mind wander! I also like to try to take different routes to mix it up and keep it interesting. And of course, a rocking playlist helps a ton!
  • Just printed this recipe out, I'll be adding it to this weeks menu. Thanks for sharing it!
  • Here are a three of my favorite low-calorie quasi-vegetarian recipes. All three are super easy, super satisfying, and under or close to 300 calories. There may be some chicken stock in them, (we omnivores, ourselves,) but I bet you could switch that to vegetable stock without loosing any of the satisfying deliciousness.…
  • I ate them for a while. I liked the 80 calorie bars, because I could eat two for my normal snack. I'd eat one, then wait an hour, and eat the other. This kept me fuller longer and kept my metabolism working longer. I stopped eating them, though, because they're pretty expensive. There are much cheaper, equally easy and…
  • I don't. I fail miserably at staying under my sugar count. It is actually hilarious how terribly I go over my sugar count. That being said, I don't really worry about it. I try to limit my intake of unnatural sugar and be mindful of where my sugar is coming from. But if I'm under my calories, under my carbs, and under my…
  • Wii Fit is a great backup for when it's just unbearable, but honestly, I just make sure I have plenty of cold-weather gear. Hat, gloves, and tons of layers. Until the wind chill dips below 0, you'll see my spandexed behind out running those sidewalks!
  • I never *plan* on a day being any different from any other day. I always intend to go for a run and stick to my calories, everyday, no matter what. Now, due to my erratic work schedule some days morph into slack days, and that happens. A 16 hour work day means I don't get to go for a run, an open bag of chips and missed…
  • I eat oatmeal every morning made with milk with a banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter mixed in. Best breakfast ever! Cereal leaves me feeling hungry in an hour or two, but oatmeal keeps me going good for much longer. But as a previous poster said, stay away from those instant packets. So much processed sugar! That…
  • This is my biggest challenge! There are a TON of great local restaurants in our area, and almost none of them list nutrition information. Generally, I try and find something already in the database with similar main ingredients, especially trying to make sure that most of the not-so-good ingredients are represented.
