  • How do you get the bento to close? I always seem to have a hard time making sure my food stays "below the line" so I can close (the often recessed) lids. I even started to cut my eggs in half as the whole egg is too tall.
  • Finally hit the grocery store, so I have bentos again! Here's the lunch bento which is shrimp, edamame & soba noodles with some sesame oil and smoked sesame seeds, the top tier is rice crackers, sugar snap peas & a Jello egg. The snack bento is not that special, but I wanted to show off my little baby brie
  • Was it at least tasty? Someone else on here made a soup that way, and it looked great.
  • Totally, although I found the commercial on YouTube. I've heard of a lot of things connected with him, but lamb was not one of them
  • Thanks for sharing! Sometimes I think people get turned off by thinking it needs to be Asian inspired, or fancy and time consuming. This is a good reminder that it does not need to be any of those things.
  • Tomorrow's bento made with planned overs: cheese, black beans, lean ground beef w/ taco sauce, yellow bell peppers, carrots, avocado and Italian dressing in the pot. Total = 454 cals.
  • It's quite fun actually. Since we're limited to how much we can fit in our box, it limits the calories (somewhat automatically) and by making it pretty and with variety it helps keep you sated. Grab a tupperware/gladware and give it a go? It doesn't hurt to try
  • Okay, today's lunch and snack bento: Snacks are a somewhat smooshed bunny egg, roasted almonds and strawberries. Lunch is broccoli, jasmine rice, pork dumplings & two green tea milk caramels (the things that look like green Starburst) . Both are kind of on lighter side today as I am expecting a big dinner tonight.
  • Meh, I've been called worse. Technically, I should be the crazy pet lady, as I've got cats, dogs, rats & fish. @sagj Exactly! I'll have to share that with the other crazy cat lady at work, err..umm other cat enthusiast
  • Every one of mine comes with a side of curious cat! Alternately it can be: pushy cat, thief cat, taste tester cat, or i'll just stick my toe in there cat...
  • You're a champ! I might've licked the cup a time or two myself... :relaxed: Oh, and I'm totally a PB snob as well, but seeing as they make it right across the street from my office and we can buy direct from the factory, I've been a bit spoiled (and Tuesdays/Wednesdays smell awesome).
  • Two things, 1: awesome fishie! 2: How on earth did you get your fish nuggets to look like the picture? Most of what I make from scratch belongs on pinterest fails.
  • As many smoothies as I have eaten, I've never truly considered tossing a banana chunk in there. Might have to give that a go next time something calls for a half a banana. Getting all the bananas eaten before they go bad has not really been a problem for us
  • As I was reading the first part of your post I was wondering, "boy, what did she do with the other half of that plum?", well, you answered that for me! Mystery solved  It's like all those recipes that call for half of something (like half a banana). What am I supposed to do with the other half?
  • @MyM0wM0w Here's one I answered for another MFPeep. There should be something you like at one of these places. A lot of these are not dishwasher safe, but I don't know about their BPA status (something about clear plastic?) There's another place that's pricey, but I think they are dishwasher safe, and that's Monbento.…
  • I had asked the same question when i started out. At first, i just weighed the shapes and fed the dogs the scraps. Now i know to hide them under the pretty top layer.
  • I think it's pretty awesome!
  • Today's non-traditional bento. Salami and laughing cow cheese roll ups with carrots, a mandarin orange (tangerine or whatever) and strawberries. Total 485 calories. Oh, and for whatever reason, my cat took offense to this bento (he does prefer the Japanese ones) and knocked it off the counter into his water bowl on the…
  • @Narcissora , @PixieGoddess @mangrothian, sorry, I got lazy on the eggs this week, I'll do better (hangs head in shame) <3 o:)
  • I'll give you my experience. I ordered mine on Amazon (carrot flavor). They definitely LOOK like fruit leather. You peel them off a sheet of plastic and everything. I wrapped turkey, cheese and avocado in them like a jelly roll. Once I left them sit, they softened up to a kind of silky texture. They tasted just like…
  • Lunch bento, pork dumplings, strawberries, rice w/ furikake seasoning, edamame & more strawberries. 440 Cals. Snack bento, cucumbers & carrots with an egg shaped egg, edamame popped chips and a green tea thing, 234 cals for both snacks.
  • Darned right it's the soup! It works even better if someone else prepares the soup. Glad to hear you're feeling better. I'll post today's bento once I figure out how to get the pictures out of my phone!
  • @sagj your boxes are so pretty and tasty looking!
  • Giggles at Hangover bento. No bento for me today, long unexpected night last night. @srschaffer1 I got nearly all of my stuff on Amazon (the rest from Aliexpress and Jlist). The only thing that's tough is a lot of times they don't list the size of the box so I've gotten surprised a few times. Just go to Amazon and search…
  • Ha! Just noticed my ceiling light is burned out :o @Narcissora I've not seen the Trader Joe's gyoza, I'm going to have to check next time I'm there, I love their stuff, and your bento looks tasty, the box is adorable!
  • One day later, here's my bento! Top tier, pork, vegetable and black mushroom gyoza and a green tea chocolate "thing" (dunno what it is the package is in Japanese), top tier edamame, rice with furikake seasoning and stir fried sugar snap peas. Total haul 514 cals.
  • If I were willing to go into the city (Chicago is only about 25 miles away) I'd find a lot more variety, but I'm pretty well uninterested in going there (Suburban kid 4 life!) but I have noticed a few middle eastern places popping up that I've been dying to try. In my mom's town (about 15 mins away) there's a bunch of…
  • We have awesome food here as well, just not a lot of variety. My town is heavily Hispanic so we have some EPIC Mexican restaurants around. Not too much in the way of Asian stuff. Some Japanese steakhouses, but I've been told they are super pricey and only okay from the few people I know that acually like Asain food.
