  • I'm sorry you're having to deal with the stress of employee theft and I get that you don't feel like you have anything left to be able to focus on weight loss. I would encourage you not to give up! Echoing some of the other recommendations, it's important to develop a game plan for when these stress triggers happen. Don't…
  • Echoing other's recommendation to look into an electronic cigarette. I originally purchased one for travel and it ended up getting me to seriously ratchet down my smoking. To be fair, I was never a heavy smoker (1-3 cigs a day max), but my biggest obstacle was social situations, especially when alcohol is involved. Now, I…
  • I have a great deal of empathy for how difficult this journey is and even more so if you don't have the right tools for success. However, you will need to figure out a way to take more control in this weight loss process. Now for some advice... As many others have commented - the high amount of fast food meal choices are…
  • Do you get enough sleep? I find that if I'm only averaging 5-6 hours a night that even if I feel fully functional, my body won't give up the weight no matter how good I am with diet and exercise.
  • Crossfit is that constant reminder of muscles you never knew existed. :)
  • I did the same thing and found that switching to MFP created a better sense of accountability than the WW online plan. What probably had the biggest impact for me was going to see a doctor/nutritionist and making some significant dietary changes as a result (e.g. wheat free, deal with insulin issues). I do think MFP is a…
  • I don't understand why those particular friends need to say any thing about their own weight/size at all. A congrats would be sufficient. Sounds like they have some insecurities or envy.
  • I'm glad that in Seattle, there's a lot of awareness about eating organic, whole foods in general. Amongst my friends and family, it hasn't been such a "crazy" life choice. I lived with constant swelling and IBS symptoms for so long, as well as intermittent headaches, crashing after meals, and joint pains. I now know that…

  • Here are my stats ~1540 calories (not including any exercise) is my "MFP target" and I've custom set my macros at around 20% Carbs (~77g), 30% protein, 50% fat. Caveats: I have some insulin resistance and gluten intolerence issues to work through, and a lot of weight left to lose. I Crossfit about 3x/week and on those…
  • Old Navy has some light compression pants/capris and moisture-wicking tees that I like for my Crossfit workouts (regular and plus-sizes available). For shoes, I'm currently loving my Nike Free TR shoes. They're closer to minimalist shoes than they are the heavy support sneaker.
  • It might help to pre-plan as many meals this week as possible, to avoid finding yourself craving something w/o a plan. Come up with some ideas for alternative to bread, grain and pasta. Avoid the bun when you can... instead of thinking you can't have it, think instead that you are going to trade the calories and…

  • I don't conceal/carry, but I am personally a fan of revolvers and after some research and range time, I ended up selecting a Ruger GP 100 .357 which also allows me to shoot .38 If you are looking for a magazine fed pistol, then there are so many options, that it's probably going to come down to a personal preference and…
  • I agree with your comment that restaurant food doesn't automatically equate to weight gain. Eating indiscriminately can. 5 years of stressful job, eating out 80% meals at fast food or delivery without care, and not sleeping well, will put on pounds. After several instances of spending two weeks in Europe or Japan, I've…
  • Consuming so few calories per day for a month can possibly wreck havoc on your body. I am aware of some folks who've had success on the HTC diet which tends to restrict calories between 600-800 and doctor supervised, however they are eating during the day. As I understand it for Ramadan, the fasting period is between…
  • echoing what others said about trying flavor additives to water. I can't drink too much water in the morning, during or shortly after a workout without getting nausious. Also, I do better drinking from a tumbler w/ a lid and straw like this one here:…
  • Do you know what your trigger foods are? The things that make you spiral into a series of non-primal eating patterns? For me, I know that wheat is my enemy. I crave it, but it doesn't love me back. If I'm not careful it's a vicious cycle. I'm not a professional, but I do think there's a diet/emotional state connection. The…
  • Sleeping Beauty - I was always drawn to villains and Maleficent is my favorite. Not from my childhood, but Nightmare before Christmas would be my favorite movie.
  • I purchased a pair of Nike Free TR shoes for walking around a video gaming convention and it turns out they are a good non-bulky sneaker for CrossFit. Here's what they look like:…
  • I started down the Paleo/Primal journey because my doctor recommended it as a way to get over my hypoglycemia/insulin resistance and other health issues. As part of my research on the diet, I did notice a lot of synergy with people who follow paleo and CrossFit. 2 months later, a new CrossFit gym opened in my neighborhood…

  • I'm currently at 296lbs, and sadly I am not a consistent walker. I think it's a great form of exercise, and there are numerous success stories of eating right and walking to massive weight loss. My most successful endeavors are those that cost me $ and have set class schedules. I recently started CrossFit and finding it to…
  • I'm very out of shape, majorly overweight and don't look like I'd be the person to try CrossFit.... So, Saturday was my first class (beginner/foundational), and everyone was very supportive, the trainers were able to correct my form or modify a WOD to help overcome any lack of strength issues I was having. At the end,…

  • I haven't done P90x, though I have friends who love it. I am starting CrossFit and my first class is tomorrow!
  • I too am amazed at the positive quality of life differences by striving towards a primal or paleo lifestyle. I have some allergy and mild exercise-induced asthma and my doctor had me start taking supplements called Vital Aller-C, and it's also been helpful.
  • What an inspirational story - great job on the transformation and honesty! I'm still at the beginning of my journey, but I'm feeling very committed to success, and I'm building in lots of accountability (friends, regular check-ins w/ doctor, MFP, joining CrossFit gym, etc.) to help me through this process.
  • Reading options - Mark's Daily Apple website, sign up for his newsletter and the first week you'll get an intro series that is very informative for embarking on this lifestyle. Everyday Paleo was a good book (and websites) w/ recipes. Paleoista another option NomNomPaleo.com has meal ideas Advice? Paleo has many different…
  • I currently follow a paleo approach, while not "low carb" it is a no flour, wheat, rice, grains, etc. way of eating. What to do instead of bread? Try cheese and meats on cucumber slices instead of crackers. Use lettuce as wrap-alternatives and fill with chicken or tuna salad or deli meats. What to do instead of pasta: I…
  • It's possible that what you currently eat isn't giving you enough fat to trigger the fullness feeling. You might want to consider ways of adding more of that. If leftovers, or a microwave aren't an option... There's a lot sandwich alternatives you could try - Use cucumber slices instead of bread and top with chicken or…
