I know everyone is human and some are struggling, but it does seem to me to send a rather mixed message to go to the hospital to visit a patient and see a row of doctors and nurses lined up across the street smoking.

Nope, no tattoos, no piercings. Not even ears. To me a tattoo is far too permanent. It would be like saying you have to wear the same shirt every day for the rest of your life (or bracelet, or pair of socks - whatever comparison works for you). I change my mind far too often. I have worked with a series of women who ALL…

I've never cared for alcohol, and don't drink at all. It's saved me much money, worry, and heartache over the years in comparison with most of my acquaintances and co-workers, who are all too happy to tell of things they regret doing while drunk. Thank goodness I found an awesome guy who doesn't drink either (and neither…

Right there with you. I've gone beyond what anyone would call a plateau and am now firmly in a 3 year RUT. :D The most maddening thing to me is when I try to drastically shake things up for a month, eating way more, way less, changing my exercise, etc. - and I'm still in the same 5 pound range!!! And then people say I'm…

Well, I'll answer for myself. As a general rule, I alternate days of weightlifting with days of cardio (specifically, I get in 5+ miles on an elliptical-ish bike (bike with arms) 3-4 days a week.) I do free weights on the other days - one day back and shoulders, one day chest and triceps, one day legs and biceps plus ab…

I've been stuck for over a year between 153 and 156. I'm trying the suggestions and, while I haven't put a lot of weight ON, I still can't get the rest to budge. Female, 5'6", 44 years old and on pills for perimenopause issues that seem to be the root of many of my woes, since I was 15 pounds lighter before starting "the…

Female, 44 years old, 5' 6" tall, 155 pounds with a 29" waist.

^^ This. Your body composition makes a huge difference. When I first started working out, I very quickly put on 10 pounds, but all of my clothes still fit and some were even too big. (Sadly that's not the case now, since I've put on another 15 on top of that!)

^^^ This. Exactly.

I don't have a lot of room, either. I bought a rock-stepper that I love to use while watching TV or reading - it's absolutely quiet and only takes up the amount of room you need to stand on. It's been a god-send every winter when I can't get outside to walk, and very inexpensive. Other than that, we use free weights at…

Wow - this hits close to home. Last year I finally got to meet and spend time with my celebrity crush of over 30 years, and yes, my hubby was jealous. It surprised me, since it's not like I'm going to run off with the guy, but apparently it touched a nerve and my husband was a little bent out of shape over it for a while.…

And this is why I always try to have my doctor visits first thing in the morning. :) I recently had to go to Prompt Care after work, and yes, it was disconcerting for the scale to read 5+ pounds heavier than it had that morning. Don't let it freak you out. It happens to everyone.

All except Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. My relatives have been to those, though. :D

Congratulations! Sounds like MFP is helping you quite a bit already. It's amazing what making yourself accountable will do for you, isn't it? :) Welcome.

The Beauty trilogy is written under the name Anne Rampling, I believe. Much better stories, imo.

^^^ This. I started reading the first one, found it so completely lame, poorly written, and lacking in characterization that I realized I didn't want to waste a single more minute of my life reading something so grossly over-hyped. Normally I love romance/racy books, but this was horrible. My friends write much better fan…

@SundayWishes - I don't think you're crazy, and I totally get what you're saying about wanting to get to where you are happy with how you look/feel, regardless of the scale. I'm the same way - I just know what I weighed when I was happy with myself, so I'm trying to get near that "state" again, which may well be several…

Well . . . going back 30 days, I was at 155.5. Dropped to 153.5 for a day or two, and now back to 154.5. Staggering progress, wouldn't you say? :D Back in 2009 I was at my heaviest: 169. Lost 22 pounds in about six months when I was able to start exercising again, but gained about 8-9 back and have been stuck there ever…

MFP accounts for your exercising and adjusts your calorie goal so that you NET what you have chosen as a weight loss (or maintenance) goal. If you are only taking in 1200 calories a day, but are exercising and burning up 500 calories, for example, that means your body is only getting 700 calories a day to "live on," which…

I have no words of wisdom since I'm in the same boat, but I am so sympathetic! Been stuck in the same 3 pound up-down range for years now, still 10-15 over where I'd like to be, still not fitting back into my clothes. Gained the extra weight during menopause and a stretch of being at the hospital night after night for…

My goal is simply to fit back into the clothes I have in my closet. I don't like most of the current styles - I want to wear what I bought years ago and loved!!! :(

Our Tempurpedic was the only thing that STOPPED me from tossing and turning all night. My husband is thrilled that I can sleep through the night now without "flopping around" as he always termed it. Not sure why you would hate it.
-
Interesting, the several comments about it being hot. We've never ever noticed that in the 7 years we've had ours. Hmmm. We just have the regular mid-range Tempurpedic, no fancy "pillow top" or anything, though.
-
Currently 155 trying to get to 145 or thereabouts. Was 140 for decades before hitting menopause. :(
-
Give it 3-5 nights to get used to it, and you'll never want to go back!! Ours had a bit of a "plasticy" smell at first, but that quickly went away and has been heaven ever since.
-
We have a Tempurpedic and LOVE it. A hundred times better for sleeping AND sex AND ending back pain. We've had ours for over 7 years and it feels brand new every night. Finally no more waking up every time hubby moves or gets up, and no more losing my balance at . . . inopportune times, shall we say?? :) Highly highly…

Glad to see I'm not alone out there. I think what's especially frustrating for me is that I had been maintaining for so many years at a nice, healthy (not super skinny or buff, but acceptable to me) weight (5'6", 140) until I hit perimenopause, and now I cannot get these extra pounds to BUDGE. I'm almost at the point of…

QUOTE Alot of curlies/wavies try to avoid terry cloth towels as it saps their curls of moisture that it needs. Try using micro fiber cloths or old white tees to dry hair, wrap the hair in the fabric and squeeze. This is also known as plopping and lots of curlies have different methods for it. Good luck QUOTE Thank you for…

Those of you who do not use a towel - what do you do? Mine would be sopping wet dripping all over the place if I just got out of the shower and didn't do *something* with it. My routine is to dry myself off in the shower and then wrap my towel around my head turban-style while I put in my contacts, put on lotion, and do my…

Love him in Independence Day. The banter with Will Smith was priceless!
