  • I'm on day 8 of strict keto. I've done lazy keto off and on but never this long and this strictly. I'm having terrible headaches yesterday and today but my joint pain is so much better already that I'm going to push through! That's my motivation. I have weight to lose but inflammation is my motivation.
  • MzOakland I believe you will get the most beneficial IF results starting at 16 hours of fasting but it totally makes sense to start at 12 hours for a week, 13 hrs the next until you get up to 16 hours. I certainly have some weight to lose but mostly I do IF and HFLC to ward off the dementia that my mother had as well as to…
  • Wow! Amazing results. Great job!
  • Hope you are enjoying LCHF. I'll be interested to hear how to like combining LCHF with IF and how you feel in your workouts.
  • I think fasting whenever you can is beneficial. Every time you do at least a 16 hours fast, your cells are healing and you are producing human growth hormone. The exercising you do is beneficial for your body and the IF you do on off days is as well. Sounds like a good combo to me.
  • Maybe have your first meal at 10:30 or 11:00 pm before you go to work and another a 6 am at work (or at least a very substantial snack) and then go home and go to sleep. That will make a good bit of your fasting time during your sleep. Just a thought....Congratulations on your new job!
  • I totally agree. I do a good job most of the time but I insist on living my life. When I know I'm going to g o out with friends, I fast until then to make up for the calories. It's pretty easy for me to get back o n the wagon the next day. I had what I wanted and am ready to eat healthy again. Working well for me.
  • That's great. Feels good to have control huh?
  • Welcome clbrto. It sounds like you have a good regimen that works well for you. Congratulations on such dramatic weight loss!. I'm 53 and it's encouraging to know that us "mature" ladies can be so successful. I do low carb with IF 18:6 usually. I fall off the wagon about once a week so my loss hasn't been quick but I love…
  • I eat beans if they fit into my carbs. I try and stay under about 35 gm net carbs. My husband can't imagine chili without beans so I just put in half of what I used to. I love beans and I really think they are healthy but too many on a low carb diet are unhelpful. If I know I'm having beans I just limit my carbs for the…
  • Thanks for the link. From my own personal experience, I am more hungry the more often I eat. For some reason I was extra hungry Sunday way before the end of my fasting window. I succumbed and ate a late breakfast. As a result I was hungry over and over before the end of the day even though I was eating low carb. I learned…
  • Welcome to the group! I do 18:6 but since I usually eat later on Friday and Sat nights, not to mention there is usually wine involved, so I may fast 20:4 or 22:2 the next day and only eat one meal. If I have overeaten the day before, I find the one meal keeps me at a bigger calorie deficit so that by the time the weekend…
  • Interesting dasher. More evidence that slowly professionals are learning about the benefits of HFLC. You are helping to get the information out to more people. I wish doctors would buy into it more often.

  • Hi. Just saw this question. The general consensus is that fasting means ZERO calories however, many who just can't stomach black coffee allow cream. Most agree that up to 50 calories are allowed during the fast especially if they are fat calories which doesn't cause a spike in insulin. Conveniently, I have always drunk…
  • That scale is the devil! I had a small binge on mixed nuts( learned my lesson and won't buy those again) on Sunday night and of course on Monday I had gained 3 lbs from when I had last weighed a few days before. I was pretty sure it was water weight because of the salt. I was diligent Monday and Tuesday and by this…

  • Working out fasted is supposed to be amazing for you. I can do it on the weekends but during the week it doesn't work out very well with my schedule. I always feel pretty virtuous when I do it. HaHa.
  • Right?!! So much more in control. Not wanting to eat between meals. Not afraid of being hungry. I'm in charge, not the food.
  • Congratulations on making the commitment. What time is your eating window? If evenings are especially difficult, you might want to start your fasting window later at night. Maybe 10pm to 2pm. That way you can eat until bed if you want.
  • That would work. LOL. The link has a "meal" plan for the fat fast. Lots of avocado, macadamia nuts, heavy cream, butter. Some veggies.
  • Yes, I try to stay under 20 gm net carbs or as low as I can. I find keto really helps with hunger and cravings during IF. I have been doing IF for about 3 weeks and I find the hunger comes and goes but doesn't make me miserable at all. Also, I know that I can have a really satisfying lunch full of fat and protein and…
  • I have never tried either. As far as I can tell, a fat fast is several days of eating 80-90% fat while staying around 1000 calories. Protein is definitely not recommended on a fat fast as obviously the goal is to eat a lot of fat. I think people usually use it to break a stall. I don't no a thing about water fasts but here…
  • Carbs 10% Fat 70% Protein 20% I try to stay under that much on carbs but 5% was only 16 gm and that would have bummed me out.
  • Yes, I agree. A long fast after a loss of control binge does seem more like punishment. I think IF is very helpful in helping me to control the number of binges since I am very satisfied with my meals and fat is just good. I do enjoy tracking and I kind of look at it like a puzzle but some day I will find it tedious and I…
  • Nice to meet you dasher. That's a good question. I think it is more difficult to fast after I have "fallen of the wagon" especially if I had a carb fest. Not as much if I binged on low carb things. I agree, I have a much easier time doing a longer fast before a special occasion. In fact, I have a happy hour tonight at my…
  • Glad you're here susupiet. I can't wait to here if IF has positive affects on your MS. There is so much research about the positive affects of IF aside from weight loss. Good l luck on your journey and keep us posted.
  • Yep, I think that's true but I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHY!
  • Perfect! No beating up. IF is so beneficial for our bodies even if we binge during our eating window. That's what keeps me motivated. Even if I go off the rails, I try to at least make sure I IF as much as possible.
  • Ok, this is a dissertation but I swear I have a reason....I know how that is. I had a binge on crackers AND had 1/2 bottle of wine last Friday night. My husband and I do wine and cheese and salami on Friday nights and I usually avoid the crackers, but not that night. Completely lost it. On Saturday I did my first 20 hour…
  • Glad to have you! Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted on how you are doing with IF. Looks like we all practice it so I'm sure everybody could help with tips or info. I am finding it very liberating and enjoyable. I like eating large meals and not eating like a bird several times a day!
  • That makes so much sense. I know I'm going out for a restaurant dinner tomorrow night so I'm going to fast tomorrow until then. I know I will eat plenty of calories for that dinner, so no need to eat before. You have, provided me with good motivation. Thanks!
