Mmmmmm...wine...

I am so sorry for your situation. I have several alcoholics in my family, three generations, all functioning, and all enabling and reinforcing each other. It's been that way for decades, and isn't likely to change unless one of them becomes non-functioning or gets in a drunk-driving accident and serves as a wake-up call.…

Who knew Canadians needed more iron than Americans? (joke!)

So NOT okay. It's not the age difference that creeps me out, it's the fact that he's watched her grow up from a baby! From what it sounds like, he's been practically family. He needs a talking to, ESPECIALLY because she's upset. If that were my daughter, the guy would be getting a beat down.

Mom to an almost-two-year-old, single parent, work full-time...feel free to add me (any of you)!

I disagree--I think women are bashed just as much. They're depicted in media as nagging, whining, just in it for the ring, and pretty irrelevant as well (except for sex). It's like each "side" is trying to convince themselves the other is inferior or worthless, and it pisses me off. Men and women are supposed to be…

That is AWESOME--congratulations!!!

This. ^^^. I wouldn't buy too-small (for now) clothes as motivation, just because you don't know how they'll fit. Cut can actually change with size. What fits you now might not necessarily work as well for your smaller body just because it's a smaller size -- between the changes in your body and the changes in the clothes…

There's a big difference between using other people's validation as a crutch and not wanting to be mocked by your friends and family.

Wow. That's really...sad. Friends ARE supposed to be supportive--that's what being a true friend is about, caring for each other. I'm sorry you don't expect that from the people you choose to surround yourself with.

Yup--I've been going through a bit of a slump myself the past few weeks. I started exercising & watching my nutrition this Spring, and started MFP in Jun or Jul. Went from 165 to 140-145 fairly quickly. I switched to maintenance, with the goal of building muscle for a while before I try to lose a little more fat (I'm close…

Whew! I expected to see myself in that article: Yoga Mom--has never seen 95% of the gym, and only goes to the nursery and the yoga room. Easily identified by total lack of athletic footwear. I've never gotten a hint of judgment from anyone at the gym, but I do feel a little like a poser sometimes. But it's the only place…

Yup--and now there are arm warmers, too.

My daughter was born with a similar mark -- so glad it faded away during her first year, just for that very reason!

I survived several mortar attacks that other people didn't. Still hate fireworks. I danced in a Korean pop music video. The director kept maniacally shouting "dance like Licky Mahtin!" (Ricky Martin) I have a top 1% IQ that is TOTALLY wasted on me. Embarassingly wasted. I can break a sewing machine or kill a plant just by…

Oh, and check out the bulk bins if any of your stores carry them -- don't be thrown by the word "bulk," you can buy as little or as much as you want, and sometimes the prices are WAY better than the packaged stuff. I get organic brown rice and organic quinoa for super cheap that way.

Beans are the cheapest-healthiest thing out there. Chickpeas are awesome--you can make hummus dip for your veggies, you can spice them a hundred different ways and roast them for snacks, mix them with different veggies for salads...I have a salad in my fridge right now that is chickpeas, black beans, red pepper & cilantro…

That was me! Went from 165 to 140-145, and now I'm maintaining while I try to figure out where I'm supposed to be. 140 lbs looks very different on me at 38 than it did at 20, so I've still got a little ways to go -- but I want to build up some muscle first, then I'll lose some more fat.

Congrats! And don't get your Semper Fi tattoo until AFTER you finish training--you'll be asking for lots of special attention otherwise.

They also manage to find plenty of matches for non-religious people. Can't speak for Athiests, though. I tried the E-Harmony thing once...maybe I just didn't have the right attitude, but it felt like so much more work than fun. You have to sort through and judge people based on how they answer your questions (while they're…

I wouldn't. I think the black trim saves it from being too white, but overall, it's costum-y and pretty short. If you knew for a fact it would work with the type of wedding your friend was having, then sure -- but that dress is designed to stand out, and you're not the one who's supposed to be standing out at someone…

You guys aren't in the AF, are you. :-) I've had at least one veggie/vegan in my office at almost every assignment I've ever been to over the past 16+ years.

ACK! Highly Inappropriate finger placement!

HAHAHAHAHA! I love it! :)

Sperm banks & doctors, my friend -- the miracles of modern medicine. I hit 35 and decided not to put off what I KNEW I wanted (being a parent) for what I HOPED to have (a true partner) any longer...you just never know how long you have, and i didn't want to wait so long for one that the other became impossible. One $750…

And for me, I think doing that mundane stuff in the company of someone who makes it fun is one of the great things about (good) relationships. Everyone needs their alone time, of course...but I'd rather spend that doing stuff I enjoy, rather than chores. To each their own, though!

I don't hate being single, but I am getting a bit tired of it. On the plus side -- I was the only one with a vote when it came to naming my daughter (or for that matter, deciding it was time to have a child in the first place), my side of the bed comes out of the middle, I can keep the A/C at whatever temp I want, I pick…
