120+ kg (275+ lb), raw, NC Haven't actually competed yet, but I've got some guys in the gym who keep putting the pressure on me to do so. Best gym lifts: SQ 615, DL 565, BP 280

My back - just took my avatar picture on Tuesday, and was amazed at the appearance. Second place - my legs. Built like tree trunks, but nice and solid!

Those arms look like they can hit pretty hard. I'd have my work cut out for me!

Questionable - looks like you've got some endurance, and probably faster than me. :)

I would have to say... pouty.

Just proud of last workout's achievement of lifting 1005 lbs out of the rack. The shirt says "I get enough exercise just pushing my luck" - which is me in a nutshell.

I do mean squats. I'm new to powerlifting, but I've got 9 years of highland games and 5 years of kung fu under my belt. Caber tossing translates well to the squat form, and martial arts gave me a solid core. I'm also a fairly solid 370 lbs. 2x bodyweight squat is my goal - either I'm going to lose the weight or just get…

I like this thread - I think I'll join in! First "update" - let's just call this the baseline. Got tired of being "afraid" of the barbell on my heavy squats this week - I'm still relatively new at the whole powerlifting thing, and just the idea of failing under a lift is enough to psyche me out on the high numbers. 500…

In my job I have to regularly move around 40-80 lb servers, and most of them are about 2 feet x 3 feet x 2 inches. Is it any wonder that I now carry them around like they're 45 lb plates?

I will wear a pair of shoes into dust since they always cost an arm and a leg. My biggest problem is that I need four sets of shoes: Work shoes Athletic sneakers for throwing competitions Lifting shoes (still haven't found a pair I like, so I lift barefoot) And a pair of boots to convert into highland hammer boots. And…

Here's one from high school (17 years ago, but it still makes me laugh): Our physics class was on the fourth floor of the science building, and at one end they had a stairwell that was mostly unused while classes were in session. As an experiment in forces and horsepower, we did the following experiment: in groups of 2, we…

Big and Tall? I think I qualify for this one! 6'2", 360-ish. Good to see a fellow group of giants. I've spent the last decade as an amateur Highland Games athlete, but never really did a whole lot of gym work. Just eating big and throwing heavy things. I started actual gym work last year to see if I could knock some size…

I throw rocks and trees, also called Highland Games. I also like to read, play the occasional video game, and play around with my little boy. But primarily it's the tree throwing.

I can't be trusted near sushi. Or sashimi. A sushi run for me can go into the quadruple calories (hence I only do them as a special day, and with some heavy workouts to counteract). A big pile of sashimi (I usually go for 16 oz of a variety) is always a good run, with some seaweed salad and miso soup.

I can see where that would get annoying. Those who don't know my name usually say "big man" or "big guy". And I'll agree - if you don't know a person, don't give them any sort of nickname. Big, little, whatever. You show some basic civility and respect before you assume familiarity. My wife is 4'10", and we joke about her…

I've been "Big Will" since early high school. Ever since then, every new group I've been a part of has had one or two members who call me that. They never mean anything harsh by it, and I don't take it as such. I'm always going to be big, one way or the other, so why not OWN that title? Walk big, act big, BE big. And big…

Forget skinny and lean - I'm a walking tank and I want to stay that way. Here's my goal:

My apologies if I read it differently. I read it as "how much more effort is person X doing vs person Y?" and not in flat numbers. I read the first sentence as a "how much are YOU lifting as a percentage?" - I've seen it asked before as a "what should I shoot for" fashion, and assumed the same. And you can't just say…

Lifting competitions will keep this in mind - that's where the Wilks formula comes into play. To calculate your Wilks score, they take your lift and multiply it by a percentage based on your weight (and gender and age - the formula's different for men and women, and senior/youths have a different scale as well). For…

Try adding in Bulgarian squats into your routine - it'll work your hip stabilizers and may help with that outside pain. I'm trying to iron out the speed bump I get when raising up past parallel (I go down all the way, but my weakest point is on the way back up when I break the parallel line). I'm trying my hand at paused…

After reading all 15 pages of this, I'm going to go home and hug my wife. We have a very active and sometimes demanding 3 year old, who loves hot dogs and cheese sticks and pizza and bacon and .... tofu and baked chicken and broccoli and edamame and green beans. This is because she offers him good foods more often than the…

I started out at Planet Fitness, but then after getting used to the workout, I hit a point where I was risking the Lunk Alarm, and I couldn't do the exercises that I seriously needed to. I had asked the trainer about a type of workout that would help me the best, and he flat out said "You probably can't get that here." So…
