  • That's fine. I'm not worried about the MFP part working independently of my phone, just regular texting, etc.
  • Well that's annoying....
  • The only reason I'm even considering one is because the series 3 will work independently of your iPhone. I understand that might not be a feature some people care about, but for me it's essential.
  • So can you choose to only sync steps and not exercise, even if you still wear (paired with a chest strap) for exercise?
  • I've already replaced the battery without issue. It worked fine for about a week after that, but then the watch froze up mid-workout and has been consistently doing it ever since. It doesn't give me bad readings or anything, the screen freezes up, sometimes I get an hourglass symbol, then it just shuts down. To restart it,…
  • I'll back you up. I definitely noticed it being quite a bit harder to lose once I was in my 30s. I'm basically a professional (yo-yo) dieter, always doing basic calorie counting. In my 20s I found it much easier to lose without having to make exercise a focus as well, but now, for me, they really go hand in hand. I want to…
  • If you want to play it safe, set it to sedentary. Especially if you're using a fitness tracker to add back calories for steps. But if you're not adding back those step calories, it's probably fair to call yourself lightly active.
  • I've always taken that setting to mean how active are you outside of exercise. For example, if you wait tables for a living, then you'd set it above sedentary. But basically, if you don't work on your feet, you should set it to sedentary.
  • Another facepalm for this one. I am a meticulous weigher who cooks basically every night, but I always struggle with estimating the number of servings and basically just guess. I've thought about weighing every pan I own and keeping a list! This is obviously so much easier. Duh!!!!!!
  • Isn't it a real pain to weigh the whole thing? You need to put it into a separate dish, right? Is there some way around this I'm not thinking of?
  • Ahhhhh genius!!!! I have no idea how I didn't think of this! I'm always weighing, taring, re-weighing. Glad I posted my "silly" question! I will now weigh eggs. Thank you!
  • Are we talking about weighing or measuring? You weigh solids and measure liquids, right? Oil is a liquid. Milliliters wouldn't be a good measure of weight because it varies depending on what you're weighing. As in, a tablespoon of water weighs less than a tablespoon of oil. Am I overthinking this?
  • Disney World! We will be spending a day at the beach as well, but I'm not really concerned about that. We sprung for the picture package they offer, so we should get a lot of pictures, and seriously, my goal is to just NOT HATE myself in every picture we get! I also need to be in shape so I can do the miles and miles of…
  • We have similar goals. I'd like to lose 35 more overall (already lost about 5), but we have a vacation at the end of April/early May, and I'd definitely like to lose 25 (30 total) by that time. I'll probably be okay with just losing 20, but I'm going to try hard to get to 25!
  • My goals are very similar, but for different reasons. I'm at 181 now and want to get to155 by end of April for vacation. I think it's doable, but I also realize it could end up being out of my reach. I think as long as you can keep in mind that all is not lost if you don't quite make it, there's no reason not to set an…
  • You're right. It is time consuming. I think that's a lot of what people don't understand. Planning meals, cooking, weighing/measuring everything, logging, exercise. It's not something I can just dabble in. I wish I was someone who could just make smart choices on my own, but I'm not. So good to hear I'm not crazy! Well,…
  • I don't disagree, but I have to get to that place by being 100% on board for awhile. I realize that such a strict workout regimen is unsustainable in the long run, but until I feel like working out is just something I do, that it's part of my lifestyle, I have to focus on making it happen consistently. I hope to get to…
  • I agree with getting a heart rate monitor, but I understand that's not always feasible. For most of the workouts you can log them as simply aerobics - vigorous. Keep in mind this is probably overestimating the actual calories you have burned, but I suppose you take what you can get. I haven't gotten out of Alpha phase, so…
  • Fish or anything that lives in water. I have tried and tried and I just can't. All kind of yogurt. Tomatoes. Hummus (chickpeas in general). Beans of any type. Lentils. I hate legumes I guess. Except peanuts, love those. ETA: Tomatoes
  • I worry about injury a lot when working out so I never hesitate to modify if I feel like I need to. I always say that doing some is a heck of a lot better than doing none, which is what you'll be doing if you hurt yourself. Definitely better to avoid injury. You may find that after awhile of modifying, if your back feels…
  • I really need one of these, but I just can't stomach spending $70 on something I hope only fits me for a few months!!! Instead, I literally hold my arms to my chest while doing jumping jacks in my basement. It really isn't pretty!
  • I hope you're right! I will say that although I've been through this before, this is the first time I've ever exercised from the very beginning rather than relying strictly on eating less for weight loss. And it's certainly the first time I've ever decided to make lifting a part of my workout routine. Also, I feel like my…
  • Thanks everyone for the thoughtful responses. This has reaffirmed not only my desire to start lifting, but really my fitness goals in general. Very very helpful. And I'm very glad I posted my question!!!
  • Not really sure what the questions is here. Not that I have an answer, but it might help you get one from someone else.
  • ^^This. Thank you. This is exactly what I needed to hear.
  • Do you mean fitness goals or weight loss goals? Weight loss - I'm 5'5", CW 187, current GW is 138. But that's subject to change depending on a number of things. But really, even if I get really fit and toned, I think mid-130s is a reasonable weight goal. Fitness goals - To be honest, I've never really been what you'd call…
  • But will it make me "stronger" or more toned?
  • I do meal plans every week. As someone else said, sometimes life happens and things don't go as planned here and there, but for the most part it helps me eat better and just as importantly, cheaper. If I don't do a meal plan we end up ordering out at least half the time. The other half we eat frozen pizza or something like…
  • Thanks. I asked because I have no idea what I'm doing, so these suggestions are great. This if the first I've heard of the "New Rules". Googled it and it looks to be a book, right? If I go this route instead, do I need an actual weight bench to do it at home? I was just going to use a lifted exercise step, but my husband…
