Awesome!! I was going to add you but I am guessing that you just got inundated with adds....so I will cheer you on from afar :)

I don't know whether this poster should leave her husband. Marriage vows are sacred, but protecting your children and your self-worth are more important. Would you really want to teach your daughter that it is okay to be abused by someone she loves?
-
Exactly. It is impossible to honor marriage vows with someone who is abusive. Your children are more important than your vows if you are in an abusive situation. I don't know whether you are in an abusive relationship or he just had a bad day, but it sounds like some counseling could help,

I guess some things just come with age (and increased confidence). If your roommate said that to me, I'd feel sorry for her. I wish I hadn't spent my 20s insecure about my height. (I am particularly tall for my ethnic group - the average Indian woman is 5'; I am 5'11") And, the whole point of a relationship is to take care…

I see that you eat a ton of egg beaters every day, which might be filling you up and keeping you from other nutritious foods (diversity is key). Whole hard boiled eggs are a great snack, and egg yolks are loaded with B vitamins.

When you make catty corrections of other people's spelling, you are not allowed to simultaneously make grammatical errors.

If someone is hogging a bench or whatever, I just ask them if I can "work in". They might not be aware that someone is waiting. I've never gotten attitude back.
-
If I recall correctly you can use nonfat dry milk in it . little butter too (but not a ton of it). If you're interested in the recipe, send me a message and I will dig it up for you.

What's funny is that there is an Indian dessert (gajjar halwa) made out of shredded carrots that are cooked down...it was my favorite food when I was a kid!

It took me awhile to get it sorted out, but I'm in a good routine. Basically, i decided that certain days were workout days, no matter what. (First 4 days, now 5 days). I do a mishmash - some days I work out first thing in the morning, other days at lunch. If I know I have lunch plans Tuesday and will be working late, I…

Hi everyone - I see that there are bunch of Corporettes here - I just learned about the blog recently from a law school friend of mine, and haven't had a chance to get into it yet. I stumbled upon this group and it seems like it would be a good crew to join! I am a lawyer, I've been in practice for about six years. Just…

I sound like a broken record because I am always recommending it...but check out Ellyn Satter's book, Child of MIne. Basically, you're doing the right thing by repeatedly giving your kid opportunities to try new foods. Don't stress out if he doesn't eat them. IT's totally normal for kids to go through aversion stages;…

It's not a word - it's a mindset. When most people hear the word "diet" they think of some change they temporarily have to make to drop weight. If you are making changes only temporarily, and only to drop weight, then fine, it's a diet. If you are making permanent changes to adopt a healthier lifestyle...then it's not a…

It's tough. FWIW - people don't notice weight changes unless they are really dramatic. I've gone from 240 to 198 (I am 5'11") since I last saw my family and no one said a word. Honestly, I don't think they ever thought about my weight as much as I do, so it makes sense now. What I think about your situation - people are…

I found that when I used an approach like this (plan for cheat day), I waaay overate on the weekends - enough to under mine most of my efforts. It's hard to self-regulate on weekends when you have been deprived all week. Staying hungry all week so you can binge on the weekend is not a permanent, positive lifestyle choice.…

Oh, that's great - I was really amazed at the progress I made. So, once your appendix is completely healed, be optimistic and push yourself (but be safe). The first doctor I saw told me I wouldn't be able to run without pain again. I literally cried. And then I proved him wrong.

Hi! Have you worked with a physical therapist yet? I found that working with a physical therapist for a bit really helped me get pain under control - I had issues with my foot and shoulder. We did a lot to strengthen the muscles around the injured areas to support them. I have been working out with a trainer for about a…

Absolutely not. Children will self-regulate, unless we interfere. Research shows that being an overweight child has no correlation to becoming an overweight adult. However, children whose parents are concerned about the weight of the children are more likely to become overweight as adults - even if the kids are thin as…

Hi there - I already had a baby but am dropping some pounds, getting into healthy eating habits and establishing a solid workout routine to prepare for my next pregnancy. I have a bum foot and don't want too much added weight on it. Feel free to add me :)
-
My guess is that you're in the minority - I'd be really upset if people stopped asking me to go with them just because I was trying to eat healthy. I don't know of a single place where I can't make a healthy food choice. And you can always say "oh, I brought my lunch but I"ll walk over with you" or whatever.

Where do you live? I lived in DC for a long time and there were plenty of amputees around, at the gym, etc. Any way you could get hooked into a support network for motivation? This guy I knew was a quadruple amputee and I used to see him swimming backstroke at the pool at our gym! Good for you for looking for something to…

When lifting alone, I ask people for a spot if I need it - I have never been turned down, and people have always been nice about it. I just make sure to ask while they are in between sets or something so I am not interrupting their workout. I get leg curls and extensions, sort of - but for leg presses, why wouldn't you…

1 - Remember that exercise is not a punishment for being overweight. My previous attempts to get into a workout routine failed because I saw exercise as a total drag. Now, I love it. 2 - Find an exercise you like doing. Genuinely. 3. Start with something manageable - say, 3 days a week. Commit to workout out 3 days no…

Today's workout doesn't have to be intense, and you don't have to work out every day. I started working out 3 days a week, and walked a couple miles on most non-workout days. I then kicked up to 4 days, now I have been working out 5 days a week consistently for six months. I think that at the beginning, if going to the gym…

Decide what you are going to cook, trying to incorporate what you already have in your fridge/pantry. Then buy whatever else you need. Plan what you will eat for every meal - breakfast, lunch and dinner. I do this for the family and it saves a LOT of money.

I posted a similar post awhile back - I gained wait and was so frustrated. I am pleased to say that 4 months later, I am down 16 pounds. So much affects our weight beside body fat - water retention, digestion, etc. I actually have made it a habit to weigh myself less frequently because i find it to be very discouraging.

For decades, women, jews, and minorities were excluded from educational and employment opportunities. Did the white men sit around scratching their heads because they weren't sure whether they got into Harvard because of what was in their pants? No. Did you ever say, "so and so's grandfather only got into Harvard because…

I am not at my best if I'm not taking care of myself. So, my first priority is still myself. It's tough. I work full time, and I fly solo during the week (husband travels a lot). Still, hell or high water, I work out 5 times a week, whether that means getting up at 5am, working out at lunch, etc. When my daughter is sick,…

I have a Victorinox Forschner bread knife, and it's great. Apparently, their chef's knife is great, too, per Cook's Illustrated. I have a Henckels Professional "S" Series Santoku. I love, love, love it -I have been using it for five years.

But I'm already really, really good at squats. Which is why I want a trainer to show me something really difficult and awesome to do! Isn't the whole point of working out to challenge your body?
