You can also start simply by writing down what you're going to eat for the week. I do this for my family (two adults, one baby, one preschooler). I take a few minutes to write down what I am going to cook, what's going in my daughter's lunch bag, any baby food I am going to make, how we're going to use leftovers. Once you…

Moving Comfort - pricey but very durable. I bought two pairs in 2006 and for many years, cycled only between those two and they're still holding up just fine.

Congrats and thanks for posting your kind thoughts for everyone else :)

I take a bright green clipboard with my workout log. It's really helpful to know how much I lifted in my last session.

What part of India are you from? I have never heard of an Indian culture where you aren't supposed to learn to cook until after you are married. I used to balk at my parents telling me to learn how to cook. Finally my dad said, "one day you're going to move out of this house, and you will get hungry. You need to learn to…

It would be a deal breaker for me. FWIW, my husband and I are both Indian (he's from India). We both love Indian food but we also enjoy trying foods that are new to us - food trucks in Hawaii, Korean joints, regional Mexican, Southern (we love Cajun food). I love cooking and trying new foods, so a partner who isn't…

Lucky! I was lifting until 39 weeks, circuit trained through my whole pregnancy. 5 months PP, still have 20 lbs to lose. (I can't lose weight while breastfeeding). I started New Rules of Lifting for Women at 12 weeks PP and am stronger than I have ever been in my life. Congrats on your new arrival :) My oldest is four now,…

Introducing myself - just started this month and I am loving it so far. For diet I am following 40/30/30 pretty closely. I've seen a lot of gains in just a few weeks! I had my second kid on June 4. I can't seem to lose weight while breastfeeding so I decided to commit to strength training for now.

I just started too, did B3 this morning. As for equipment - if it's at all possible, find a place with a squat rack and a bench. I think that not having the rack will hold you back. a couple of days ago, I squatted 110 lbs. There is no way my grip would be strong enough to hold two 55 lb dumbbells. I would try to rest in…

I was a vegan for six years. I went back to eating meat and dairy. I didn't get sick. I try to eat less processed food and ideally don't eat meat every day (though lately have been eating more). Still drink mostly soy milk but eat other dairy products. I try to keep meat portions small.

It sounds like you really don't trust your doctor...is there really no way you can switch, even if it means a further drive? Your doctor knows you and your specific situation, and what you read online can vary drastically in reliability (and it's not tailored to you). Placental abruption is no joke. 1% doesn't sound like a…

What a mess! Blood pressure and weight gain are signs of pre-eclampsia, not things that can give you pre-eclampsia (and your BP looks normal). She sounds awful.

I think crunches are good, but it's good to do a variety of ab exercises. I do teapots, planks and side planks. Crunches on a ball where you keep looking up at the ceiling are also great for working the top of your abs (even if you're not pregnant)

I felt guilty about it too. I started off my first pregnancy heavy and gained about 25 pounds (maybe less...I can't remember, though it seemed so important at the time!) The weight was off within six weeks without trying. Within a year and a half I was 30 pounds below my pre pregnancy weight and in excellent shape.

With my last pregnancy, I walked throughout, but would start having braxton-hicks contractions if I walked for too long. And I was winded and had to stop and pee constantly. So I took lots of mini walks throughout the day - 5-10 minutes 3-4 times a day adds up. :) I wasn't very fit in that pregnancy, though. We'll see what…

Generally, if you need to wake a kid up in the morning, he didn't get enough sleep (true for adults, too, but getting nine hours every night is just a fantasy right now!). I would keep pulling bedtime back until you don't have to wake him up anymore. (These are things I learned the hard way!) It looks like early bedtime is…
-
My solution to everything as a busy mom is to just keep waking up earlier! I am back from the gym before everyone else is awake. Or I go on my lunch break. But I don't kill myself over it, sometimes I go when they're awake and it's ok. You can't burn the candle at both ends. This involves going to bed pretty soon after the…

When changing our daughter's sleep schedule, we just went whole hog. I thinrk in my daughter's case, 5 minutes a week would have extended the overtiredness - if you're trying to move bedtime from 10:00 to 8:00, that's 120 minutes, or 24 5 minute increments. That's six months of a too-late bedtime! I would really recommend…

It sounds counterintuitive, but he might actually nap better during the day if he goes to bed early. Basically, toddlers' circadian rhythms (natural sleep patterns) are set to go to bed sometime between 7:30 - 8:30. (There is of course some variation, but the vast majorities of 2-3 year olds will naturally sleep at that…

Why is he taking a nap at 7? Why not just put him to bed for the night at 7:30 or 8 and go then? Most kids at that age are down to one nap in the early afternoon. You can tweak his schedule to make things more manageable for you as well.

I am not saying you told her not to eat. I'm saying that, even if it detracts from time with your kids, you have to spend some time on yourself to maintain your own health. You have to *balance* your needs along with those of your kids. Otherwise, you can use your kids to justify any behavior. Can I ask how old your…

Even when I was back to prepregnancy weight, my clothes fit me differently. Honestly, even when I was 30 pounds BELOW my prepregnancy weight, I couldn't wear my old blazers any more. Your body changes. Wearing poorly fitting clothes is just a way of shaming yourself, and shame isn't a reliable, consistent motivator. Get…

Being the only woman (and a visibly pregnant woman, at that!) in the crowded weight room on my lunch break, and busting a sweat even though I didn't necessarily feel like hiting the gym in the first place!

"you should come first' means you need to take care of your own needs before taking responsibility for others. Why not save time by not eating? Because you need to feed yourself. It sounds like she's already putting her son to bed before she goes, why on earth wouldn't she go to the gym if she feels like it? Martyr moms…

Why would you feel bad? He's in bed when you are going. He doesn't care if you're just sitting there waiting for him. My daughter is 3 as well. I work out five times a week pretty consistently. Sometimes I go during lunch, sometimes on weekends in the morning, sometimes before anyone wakes up, or I put her in the jogging…

Phenomenal - congratulations to you and your wife on your commitment to healthy living.

Same here. I own five pairs now.

Back in DC, where I just moved from, slightly subsidized day care centers started at 1600 for an infant (with a two year wait list), but 2200-2700/month was more typical. in home care was significantly cheaper, you could get a great spot for 1200/mo. Even if you were willing to pay, though, you still had to deal with the…

I will share that feedback with my mother. She'll appreciate it.
