LOL - I've just had my "be bad lunch" - smokie and perogies. But, with a green salad now instead of a coleslaw. Still - humungous calories; good thing I've got my karate class tonight!

Dark chocolate, Nestle Fudge Ripple ice cream light (120 cal per 1/2 cup), dark truffles. Gee, thanks, I'm hungry now :grumble:

A few years ago I had a gall bladder attack. Symptoms: intense upper abdominal pain and nausea. When I got to ER at 3am, the first thing they did was an ECG, even before I got morphine  The problem is, you may not know. Even your doctor may not know until you've had an ECG. Some people get chest pain (angina) for…

Unfortunately denial is a big problem with people having a heart attack - not sure why. I remember working in a nursing home where one of the residents was a total hypochondriac - always "dying" of something or other. Except when she really did have heart problems she didn't tell anybody for several days until I came back…

Glad your mom is okay, and THANK YOU for the awareness raising.:flowerforyou:

Vegetable dishes are generally lower cal. Chicken is good too, but watch for the almond gai ding or other deep fried goodies.

Lettuce, tomato, onion, other veggies if you like, and a vinaigrette dressing with lemon juice instead of vinegar. I often eat that for lunch. Of course I've got to give the cats their share of tuna before "ruining" it with the other ingredients

I find when I eat something sweet, even fruit, it increases my appetite - must be all that insulin my body is dumping. I do better with a couple of pieces of really dark chocolate, or sweet combined with protein. Cereal, strawberries and milk works better for me than just the fruit. Or banana/apple with peanut butter.

This is a complex issue. It's easy to blame the parents, but if that were the case, why is it such a widespread problem? I can't believe almost half the people have not heard about the problems of obesity, or don't know what healthy food choices are. If they don't, what the heck where their parents and teachers doing while…

The first couple of weeks it's mostly water weight. Enjoy seeing the numbers drop quickly; it's a great incentive, but be prepared for it to slow down, especially when you're starting to build up more muscle tissue. Then it may seem as if you aren't losing at all, but you'll feel firmer, fitter and your clothes will feel…

Pretty annoying if people won't take "NO" for an answer. Would they push cigarettes on a non-smoker? Hmm, some probably would. Just tell yourself "misery loves company" and be firm. It is difficult when it's your sweet elderly mother though; it's probably best to accept the food and dispose of it later. When my son was…

I like them pickled or in borscht. Borscht is like a potato soup except you use beets, plus any other spring veggies you like - onions, new potatoes, green peas, beans, carrots.... I use vegetarian soup stock (don't tell my M-I-L:noway: ) and season to taste with a bit of vinegar and sugar. Traditionally you put a dollop…

I think if you look at this as a lifestyle change, it won't feel so much like "being good" and "cheating". You've got your whole life in front of you, to gradually get to the point that "bad" foods don't tempt you any more. If it takes baby steps toward your goal, take baby steps.

Your doctor is right; not everybody is on the "once-a-day" schedule. If you feel okay and you don't have really hard and uncomfortable BMs then just continue to eat healthy, drink lots of water and exercise.

You could also look at some ethnic cuisines. My daughter is a vegetarian and we found that Indian food has lots of great-tasting choices for both vegetarians and meat-eaters, including lots of chicken and seafood dishes. Tofu is a good substitute for paneer. Another option is Chinese food; stir-fry with whatever is on hand…

Hi, Pneko; you'll find lots of good ideas and support here. Are you talking to somebody about the reasons you're overeating? It sounds as if some of those reasons might be emotional and it's really important to deal with that. I've been known to eat a whole family-sized chocolate bar when upset - I don't do that anymore…

I used to hate veggies, but there are so many choices out there that I found some I like. It also helps if you're able to grow some in your garden or on your balcony. There is just no comparison between home-grown and store-bought. Or try the local farmers' market. I also check the frozen food aisle - it's gone way beyond…

I am starving when I get home from work, even though I take a good lunch. I make sure to always have a supply of ready-to-eat veggies and fruit on hand. Once I've had a big helping of those, I can settle down and think about making a healthy dinner instead of getting take-out because I'm too hungry to wait. I also like red…

Chocolate. Need I say more? I always have extra dark chocolate in my office so when I get the urge I can have a couple of pieces worth120 calories. That's only 20 minutes very brisk walking, definitely worth it.

Twenty years ago my daughter came home crying from her Grade 3 class. Turned out her teacher had talked about smoking and that people die from it. She was crying because she didn't want us to die. That did it for me!

Guys get away with that for a while, but it'll hit him like a ton of bricks when he gets to middle age. Seen it with my husband and lots of our friends. Of course losing weight gets harder for middle-aged women too :grumble:

Anger however is understandable - this is a change, and every change goes through stages similar to the grieving process. You hope to gain something, but you also have to give something up. Could be certain foods, or time rather spent on other things, or even one's self-image. Everybody has to work through this, and I'm…

Not to run down WW; their approach is very sensible, BUT I don't like the point system because I don't understand how the points are calculated, so it doesn't teach me to eat healthy and balance my nutrients. I'm fairly new to this website and I love it because it does have a lot of nutritional information and a great…

I totally understand you. I HATE doing stuff just because "it's good for me". And I really appreciate my doctor who only gives advice when asked. He went for a sabbatical a few years ago and his locum was trying to give me the run-around. Fortunately I only need to see him once a year for my physical, so the next time I…

I do karate three times a week - they are two hour classes and we try to vary our routines. Also tai chi once a week. But I do feel a bit lost on the other three days. I walk the dog but it doesn't seem enough. I just got the 30 day shred so I'll give that a try.
-
I get 2 half hour breaks. I try to get across the street to the park and do some tai chi for one of my breaks. If I don't get too intense I don't sweat too much. Don't know if it uses many calories but it sure helps me relax. :glasses:

Add one healthy food at a time. If you eat healthy most of the time, it's okay to have your favourite high-cal foods once in a while in moderation.

My mother always said to eat breakfast like the emperor, lunch like a burgher and supper like a beggar. She's in pretty good shape for 83!

Is the meeting in a hotel/convention centre? You may be able to use their gym. Or go for a good walk or run before or after the meeting.

Find something you like. I hate the gym and get bored with walking or running on my own. I've found my niche with karate, tai chi and yoga. The social aspect keeps me motivated, as well as constantly learning new things.
