  • Try Sparkpeople: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness.asp They have oodles of exercise Youtube videos, about 10 minutes long. You can mix and match the exercises you want.
  • I'm over every day because I eat fruit. I only track sugar because I want to catch any food with lots of hidden sugars; then I can reduce or avoid it, but my sugar intake from fruit doesn't worry me.
  • It's a pretty ambitious goal; 7 months is roughly 29 weeks, so you're looking at more than 2lbs per week. It would be unrealistic for me, but everybody is different. Nothing wrong with trying!
  • ractayjon, I'm with you! I make sure to wear a good bra and shoes; everything else is incidental. Old tees and cut-off sweats. But I can understand people who are working out differently wanting to wear different clothes depending on the purpose. When I go to my karate classes I wear a gi, even though it's not really the…
  • With lots of alcohol and lots of exercise you're likely dehydrated; try to drink as much water as you can and see if it helps with the cravings. Good luck; I'm jealous too!
  • There are a few "Homemade" versions in the database to give you some idea. It is definitely "comfort food", often served with mashed potatoes and gravy. A garden salad should go nicely with it; that's what I usually have.
  • I love the Nature's Path Optimum cereals - Optimum Slim is pretty good, with 7g of sugar. Optimum Zen has 13g but is yummy with cranberry and ginger
  • I would say it's pretty normal. Most people, when they start any diet, lose big time for the first week and then it slows down. The big weight loss is just water. There are some posts on here that explain it very well. But don't let that discourage you; you will lose fat as well, just not at 9 lbs per week.
  • Another idea is to go with a friend, both for support and for a less boring workout.
  • Uhhh, danger, Will Robinson - I know several people who thought the same way but guess what: they don't take the dog for walks and just let it out into the backyard. That's not fair to the dog and guilt is not a good motivator for lifestyle change. It's great that it's working for you :flowerforyou: but I wouldn't…
  • My daughter is a vegetarian who has some strong dislikes - she won't touch mushrooms for example and they're a staple in many vegetarian recipes. Here is a link to a booklet she found useful: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/library/publications/year/1998/vegedge.pdf She also discovered East Indian cuisine and found a variety…
  • Yes, get dark, good quality, expensive chocolate. It's a treat, not a staple (I can't believe I'm saying this :noway: ). If you're craving the cheap stuff you're likely craving sugar. You can change your taste buds but it may take time.
  • Vodka with club soda and a twist. And a glass of "straight" club soda after every one with vodka. Also, be sure to have a good meal before you go so you won't be so tempted by fattening snacks and can enjoy them in moderation. Have fun! :drinker:
  • Great to see so many positive replies. I think the reason my hubby didn't want to keep running with me was that he thought he could just pick up where he left off 30 years ago. When that didn't work out, he got too discouraged to realize he had to WORK his way back up. Guess I'll give it another try once the weather gets a…
  • There is no magic bullet to quick weight loss, but if you just want to LOOK slimmer here are some tips: http://weightloss.about.com/cs/ourtoptips/a/aa051204a.htm Good luck, and I hope you're also looking at a long-term plan.

  • That's awesome! You're definitely on the right track. :flowerforyou:
  • My goal is not to gain any weight during the holidays. I will eat cookies and other treats but everything goes into the log and I'm much more conscious of ingredients and portion sizes now. It's going to be tough because my karate club is taking a break over the holidays  but I've got some exercise planned for every…
  • Some interesting looking recipes here... http://www.hungry-girl.com/week/weeklydetails.php?isid=948
  • I've been fat my entire life - 9 pounds at birth and never looked back. Over the years it's just added up to more and more. I love food. I also used to be a stress eater but I've got a handle on that - when I get upset I run or jump around instead of eating. Incidentally, when I was a kid I walked to school and played…
  • Same if there's a birthday party at work and you have a piece of cake just to be polite :blushing:
  • So true - one of my friends had a heart attack in his forties. He ran every day and thought he was pretty fit but his diet was atrocious. His LDL was around 7 :noway: The sad part is, for a while he was really good about his diet but now he's back to his old ways
  • You already did well restricting yourself to one serving and making sure you've got calories to spare. Now keep planning when you will eat it, one serving a day, and what you will do to earn the calories. That works for me; hope it will work for you too! :drinker:
  • This is the BEST site that has healthy (or at least healthier  ) versions of favourite foods: http://www.hungry-girl.com/chew/index.php
  • Hungry Girl is the BEST site. I just looked at a Bananabread recipe that I MUST try tonight: Banana bread Ingredients: 1 1/4 cups whole-wheat flour 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 cup Splenda No Calorie Sweetener (granulated) 1 1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3 bananas) 1/2 cup fat-free liquid egg substitute (like…
  • Just keep in mind, to gain 2 pounds of fat you've got to eat 7,000 calories above your maintenance calories. If MFP has set you at 1,200 or thereabouts to lose weight, your maintenance would be around 1,700. Did you eat 8,700 calories that day? Even if you had the Double Quarterpounder with cheese and small fries that's…
  • Very interesting article. That could certainly explain the plateauing so many of us are experiencing. I feel more optimistic now that just sticking with the changes will eventually show more results. Thanks for sharing!
  • I agree with the healthy snacks stash. Mine includes some of the 100cal dark chocolate bars :blushing: Also I've got a 1 liter water bottle at work that goes everywhere with me. Helps overcome temptation - well, most of the time.
  • I've heard over and over that the last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose. Not that I've ever been even close to that point :blushing: Adding protein and mixing up your exercises sounds like good advice - our bodies are amazing in the way they can adapt to whatever we're throwing at them. Maybe your body is getting quite…
  • I find martial arts a great way to exercise. We have a Nisei karate club right in our neighbourhood. I used to practice tai chi with the Sensei and one day I decided to step it up a level and join the club. We're not trying to train UFC fighters; the emphasis is on exercise and self-defense. It's fun because there are…
  • I love chocolate. Instead of buying the cheap stuff and eating lots, I am now buying expensive dark chocolate (which is better anyway because of the antioxidants) and eat a little of it. As for temptation, I'm lucky because my husband likes to eat potato chips that don't appeal to me at all. Sometimes he has Wasabi…
