  • I started this whole thing by only walking. It kicked my butt. When I first started running I could only run for 60 seconds, so I did walk/run intervals. I still do them for long distances, because it's a great recovery interval. So I guess my answer is; I am a strong believer in the benefits of walking as exercise.
  • I really respond well to truth speakers, and people who share their real experiences. You have helped me in the past with your posts. I wouldn't want you to change the way you think because *I* might be offended. How I choose to react to your words are my own emotions. I think that is the problem with some of this thread.…
  • I only watched the show once, and I hated it. For what it's worth my personal trainer has a bachelors in psychology, and is working towards his masters. It has been helpful to me to have him as support, and we talk about the psychology of wellness, motivation, etc. I don't know anything about the trainers on the show you…
  • @jgnatca Lazy basically means you are unwilling or disinclined to do an activity. My ex-husband used to all me lazy. I would work all day, come home to raise our children, cook dinner, and then I would watch TV instead of doing the dishes. Not doing the dishes made me lazy. I HATED IT. Of all the things I did in my day…
  • Season how you like, I do garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper and thyme into a rub. Brown the outside. Chop up a bunch of veggies; potatoes, mushrooms, green beans, cabbage, bell pepper etc. Put the chicken on top and bake the whole thing at 375 for about 45 minutes.
  • I have been where you are. Try to think of this in smaller steps. You are overwhelmed by the end result. The idea of life being normal seems daunting, and impossible to you right now. Break it up into things like taking a walk around the block, or maybe right now your accomplishment is to get dressed and take a shower…
  • Here's that recipe http://www.loveandlemons.com/2012/05/04/vegan-enchiladas-cashew-poblano-crema/
  • I will do this, but sometimes it's exhausting to do. Sometimes you really have to be invested in the person. Is that lazy on my part? Maybe, but it also depends on what they give back to you. If they are completely defeatist, and unwilling to budge I normally just drop it and move on.
  • I have loose stomach and arm skin, but some of it was already there. My son was gigantic during pregnancy, so he really wrecked my stomach. Losing 60 lbs on top of the 25 I dropped when he was born made it worse. I lost at a really slow rate, so I don't know how much bounce back I'm going to get. He's 8, but it took me…
  • I based it off of how much I was able to eat. I took a higher calorie limit at a lower loss rate. At first I could take a bigger cut, like 20%, because my weight was high. Towards the end I think I was only at a 10% cut. I didn't lose weight in a linear fashion most of the time. I didn't really lose .5lb a week, I would…
  • I respond really well to extrinsic motivation. I just don't get it from unknown people on a website. For example my sister will text me sometimes in the morning to get my *kitten* up out of bed and go run. I also respond to my personal trainer to motivate me through a work out. It's part of why I pay him...the…
  • Google raw bacon calories. I did this yesterday for another bacon thread. Raw bacon is something like 1oz/28g =128 calories I just assume I'm eating all of the calories. As a side note my mom bought me a bacon cook book that has several recipes that use the left over bacon grease. I often brown chicken in it instead of…
  • There are some good cheese spreads, and "sour creams" that you can make with cashews. Pintrest has a TON of good recipes. I have an enchilada one I made with a cashew cream. It's time consuming to make the entire thing, but the creama itself isn't. I'll find the recipe and post it for you. I'm a single mom/student/full…
  • I think that sometimes people have the misconception that vegetarians eat nothing but broccoli and lettuce all day. There is a wide array of vegetarians, but things like nuts, beans, and grains are calorie dense. It's really difficult to be obese eating celery or carrots, it's not difficult to be obese eating an actual…
  • I use TDEE so I eat the same amount every day regardless of exercise, and my eating back is built in. I went from C25k, to 10k, to half marathon, and added strength training. I didn't change my calorie intake, so I left my activity calculation at moderate. There were days when I was going to die if I didn't eat more, like…
  • I have done the 30 day shred video. The work outs were good for my fitness level at the time. I haven't read any of her books, but I signed up for her online program for diets once. It's kind of the same typical website diet; chicken breast, steamed veggies, egg whites etc. Seemed kind of behind the times with what you…
  • This morning I had a 4oz yogurt, and instant oatmeal. Lunch was leftovers from Sunday's dinner For whatever reason I have no time in the mornings, so I keep instant oatmeal in my desk for "emergencies". I try to make a fruit smoothie in the morning, so I can drink it on my commute. Sometimes I make overnight oatmeal, and…
  • They do make flavored cream. Lattes and the like are more popular though than premade flavored cream. Those of us who like it that way often buy the syrups sold for espressos and make the real versions ourselves. I make mine with syrup and regular whole milk.
  • My ex-husband works in a large call center, and he has to schedule time according to call volume. If there isn't room in the call volume his request is denied. Since it is difficult for him to take time off work I do 100% of the kids' appointments.
  • I use measurements with strength training. My weight will do all kinds of weird fluctuations. I will go up in pounds, but down in measurements. So we (my trainer and I) use weight as one of the measurements, but don't drop it entirely. We do weight, arms, thighs, waist, and hips.
  • 5'6", medium frame I think? I have small wrists, but I don't think I'm small framed. Maintaining at 160
  • I understood it generally, but the statement doesn't really say anything to prove or disprove the OP's question. Of the people who are obese, how many of them were taught to "clean their plate"? I was looking for something else to go with it as a part of the conversation.
  • How so? Not everyone is encouraged to clean their plate. I didn't grow up this way.
  • How much butter are you eating? A tablespoon is about 100 calories. I eat a lot of Indian food, so I regularly eat butter. Overall 2 tablespoons of butter in a multiple serving dish is not a diet buster for me.
  • I use sugar free flavored creamer. Significantly less calories.
  • The only time this has ever happened to me was when I was exclusively nursing. I went over a year without menstruating with both children.
  • I noticed this too, and did a double take since I had replied to you in another thread recently LOL
  • I wasn't an emotional eater, but I would consume large amounts at once. For example if we had pizza I wouldn't limit myself to a slice or two, I would eat six or seven. Or I would get the french fry refill on top of my normal dinner. What I learned is I became used to the full feeling a binge would give my stomach. Even if…
  • ^^This I went to a brewery with friends on Friday, and I made a calorie allowance for it. The longer I am on maintenance the less beer I drink. Over time it just hasn't been worth sacrificing the food. The beers I had Friday were the first ones I had drank in over a month. I will have a glass of wine on a more frequent…
  • I was talking about this with my 8 year old the other day. When we are little we are often allowed to eat on demand, but as we get older we force ourselves into set meal times. We were talking about how he only gets so much time to eat lunch at school, and he eats whether or not he is hungry. Also he eats faster than…
