  • Well done on what you've done so far - that's outstanding! But imagine if you hadn't. Imagine if you were still on square one.... You're more than half-way there, and you'll get there eventually. Just don't make it slower by quitting
  • I've not experienced it, but even though I'm dieting, I kinda try to keep it secret. I always think there's nothing worse than going out for drinks with someone who isn't drinking, or going to dinner with someone who has a salad. My calorie counting is strictly for when I'm alone, and when I'm out it goes completely out…
  • I run at 6, and go to it straight from my bed. I couldn't stomach anything at that hour anyway, and it doesn't seem to be doing any harm to my routine. I figure that if I can just about manage to get myself out the door and round my route, I'm not going to derail myself by introducing rules about eating.
  • How often do you go to the gym? If maybe twice a week, you could just resign yourself to crappy dinner those nights, and then enjoy being able to properly plan meals the other nights. Trying to do this while moving etc. though is really hard. Maybe just take one day at a time, and try to make healthy choices until you can…
  • You can do it, or not do it. You just need to do it. There isn't an 'easy' way unfortunately - everyone who is losing weight is depriving themselves of things they'd like to eat and drink, and doing workouts they sometimes can't be bothered doing. There are ways to encourage yourself though... sometimes I go through phases…
  • Don't be too discouraged. When I was sticking to 1200 calories for about 3-4 months, I dropped from a UK hefty size 16 to a size 12, and according to the scales I'd only lost 3lb. If you don't like measuring your progress by weight, try using a particular pair of jeans as a yard stick. Or take measurements to see where…
  • I've only ever heard that it's really good for you, and about the best additional you can make to your routine. I read recently about the benefits of drinking a cup of warm water with lemon juice, honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder, which is reported to be incredibly good for you - all the benefits of lemon which…
  • Definitely trying to lose weight, and to stick to 1200 calories per day. But I would ALWAYS rather enjoy good meals, and go over my calories by maybe 300/400 calories, then claw it back by doing a 40 minute run which burns about 500 calories. It does feel a bit like cheating though when I am officially under my calories…
  • Absolutely! If you were jogging these distances you'd probably count it. Walking just takes longer but a mile is still a mile.
  • Best. Title. Ever.
  • I completely agree with this! Just get yourself out to door with the idea of a no-pressure run, don't set goals, and just run until you're out of energy :)
  • Good on you for deciding. It's really easy to say you're going to 'watch what you eat', 'cut down a bit' etc., but making a conscious decision to acknowledge your situation and revamp things is really positive. Good luck!
  • Sometimes, yeah! Occasionally not eat anything all day, then have a McDonald's or something equally junky. It amazes me that I can log this stuff and still finish up under my calorie allowance for the day. Mostly I'd rather eat sensibly though, and not starve/binge just to sneak in something like that.
  • It's massively encouraging that the things you've given up have eventually dropped off your radar! I suppose it's a case of giving it a chance and seeing it through, rather than just 'cutting down'. If you can condition yourself not to crave junk food and drink, it's easy streets from then on! May's too far away, I'm…
  • I think it's easily 1200 cals per week or something.... grim!
  • Nice maths! It's more a jumbo pack on a Friday or* Saturday night. You know when you open the bag and shake a few into a bowl to go with a drink, then fast forward 30 mins and the whole lot is gone...? And then you STILL have a hearty dinner? That! *and :embarassed:
  • Really? That's encouraging! I'd love to get to the end of it and not be fussed about crisps, that's the dream.... Thanks!
  • Cool :) It's GOT to make a difference. I'm trying to break snacking too. I need to re-train myself to watch TV or sit through a movie without a bag of something...!
  • Awww, really well done!
  • I Completely agree with you about gyms! And I like your hate list :) I lost weight a couple of years ago by eating 1200 cals a day (weekends I ate and drank what I liked) and I did no exercise. Now I'm trying to exercise it it off, but it's much slower. I'd always rather eat and exercise though, instead of not eating and…
  • When I was about 16 my sister lived in Paris and was getting married. I went to see her to go bridesmaid dress shopping, and as a 16 year-old, maybe a UK size 12/14, every shop we went into bar none straight out said 'we have nothing for you'. The nicest lady we encountered said maybe I could try to just to eat salad and…
  • I always treat it the way I do spinach. Either make Green Soup with stock, kale, asparagus, watercress, broccoli and parsley, then whizz in the blender with a bit of creme fraiche. Or sautee it with chilli flakes and some freshly squeezed lime juice.
  • I gave up on butter and switched to margarine BUT I heard that when they make that stuff, it comes out grey and the have to dye it yellow. Don't know if it's true, but it makes me want to go back to butter. Fat seems better than chemicals....
  • Really?! I have never heard of that! Are you sure it doesn't look good, like you've got a bit of a tan? :p I'm worried now, because you've listed aaaall my favourite veggies....
  • Congratulations!! Well done - what a great feeling :)
  • I'm giving up sweet things! No sweets, chocolate, ice-cream, sugary drinks, biscuits cakes etc. Although it is only day 1....
  • I gave up tea and coffee a few years ago which was brutal! This year I'll do something which will tie-in with losing a bit of weight. Maybe sweets and chocolate.
  • Ha! I've heard from some folk that it's much easier than you think. I'm still in the post-Christmas phase of not wanting to drink at all. I don't know how long that will last though!
  • I get a bit nervous around dogs, and I hate it when I'm running and see dogs ahead who are off the leash and bounding about at everyone who passes. I try to cross the street or take a ridiculous detour. It's always at the back of my mind while I'm out. The morning an enormous doberman lunged at me when I passed it, and the…
  • I just came on here to see if there were any topics on it because I'm thinking about giving it a go! I just started running again recently, and want to do some toning in between runs. This seems good because I can do it in my flat without disturbing the neighbours downstairs. Do you have to do the daily quota in one go, or…
