  • I agree with getting some more fat. Clearly you still have a sugar craving? We all are different, but personally I'd turn down the carbs. If I start having 100-150, my cravings get worse and I make bad decisions. I run fantastic at 30-50 but that takes some work to get and stay there.
  • Make sure to get a D3 with K. I personally really like nutrametrix (google it). It isn't cheap but I do believe their hype of better uptake. Any D2 or "prescription" D is honestly not as effective. And I believe if you are low, 10k ius is a good dose. My D is 52 and I still do 5,000 ius.
  • My father is a type 2 diabetic. He was moderate, on medication but no insulin yet. He started having serious episodes which put him into diabetic shock 3 or 4 times in one week. He thought he was going to die - seriously. Dr's had no advice but tried changing up his meds here and there and pushing him out the door. I…
  • I wasn't even going to bother to comment but... Those that want to hate this lifestyle will do so. I don't care. They can eat their crap and be negative all they want ;) I'm not being evangelical and trying to change the world to being like me, I simply want those around me to be healthier. Some say the paleo diet is about…
  • whattagame - #gohawks - Thought Manning was going to get MVP for the hawks for all those interceptions
  • You should meet Heather http://about.me/heatherkelly and her main site http://openutrition.com/ Paleo doesn't have to be expensive at all. in fact, you will be amazed how expensive non-nutrient food really is. And how cheap eggs can be. Veggies are also quite affordable and you can get plenty of carbs from tubers if you…
  • I tend to preach, "never eat gluten free, just don't eat gluten". Anything with gluten free on it is more than likely crap. Go for whole foods. Read It starts with food. My basic rule is I don't like to eat anything with a nutritional label on it.
  • ^ this. I love the bulletproof execs infoguide from the "sliding scale" standpoint. This cannot be a lifestyle of "you can never eat these 32 things".
  • my ultimate is abs. I feel like I have been so close, the "last 10 lbs" while retaining muscle has been an ongoing battle.
  • don't make the mistake of thinking gluten is causing weight retention. and never eat gluten free foods if you are. I highly recommend the book "It starts with food". You need to be much more strict rather than worrying about gluten. I'd continue to track everything you eat and watch your carbs.
  • ^ this plus.. my thoughts. calorie deficits matter Catch is, you have to maintain them. Low fat is disastrous for me (and I believe most people) as you are left unsatiated AND it totally messes with your hormones such as leptin , testosterone and others. also screws with your lipids. Higher fat and cleaner foods promote…
  • I find my good balsamic at a oil and vinegar store in our mall (I know not everyone has one:) I have also found them at good wineries. (online would always be an option for sure). $20 for a bottle on the top shelf of a good grocery store is about the minimum I would spend. I prefer the better stuff but I have become a…
  • may or may not be the culprit - but I second (or third) the cut way back on any almond flour. I only use "flours" from any source as a treat. Nuts are to be used in moderation and using them as a snack or in their powdered form is too much. As a coach once said to me, "You won't be successful if you paleo-ize your sh!tty…
  • I am probably a bit extreme, but I ONLY use balsamic vinegar. If at a restaurant I will take their oil and vinegar - but at home it is balsamic. On the veggies, on the steak, the chicken and the ice cream ;) BUT, balsamic vinegar is literally like wine. The stuff you see in a grocery store is usually crap even the stuff…
  • Check out "against all grain" cookbook. She loves to bake and her cookbook has many excellent creations that will fulfill that need. The health benefits significantly outweigh any pleasure grains, sugars and bad oils might have.
  • Loved Perfect human diet. A bit dry - but that is the point. If he would read a book? I liked "Don't Die Early" and am just starting "Grain Brain" and like it so far. Bottom line, eat paleo-ish in philosophy and you will be healthier for it.
  • I was trying to be a bit sarcastic and post a funny video. Sorry wasn't trying to be serious or downplay heroin addiction.
  • vo2max is a measure of aerobic capacity. The proper way to measure it is in a lab on a treadmill connected to a breathing machine. This form found a predictable relationship between waist, resting heart rate etc - to vo2max. The first study found a solid relationship between vo2max and body age. I wouldn't hold it as…
  • Actually part 2 plays automatically after a short commercial. Yes, there is a theory that Alzheimer's is technically considered type 3 diabetes.
  • I wouldn't ever call it taking a break - more like making some indulgences. This is how I eat. It is NOT more expensive for me or difficult or any of those reasons people often give. I have not found them to be true for me. It is something that makes me feel better and even awesome. This is worth so much more than a pizza.…
  • Try bodeefit.com Cheap and or free and daily workouts - along with daily food recommendations.
  • I too have the aria and love it because of the wifi connection. That being said, the body fat % thing is not even remotely accurate. I do hydrostatic tests 3x a year and it is routinely 5-8% over what the dunk tests tell me.
  • I did start grain free then went primal as a "diet". Took me about a month to realize this is just plain better way to live. Just shy of two years and getting healthier every day.
  • If I understand correctly, you aren't eating the same stuff already. Also sounds like it would not be good to eat as she does. Lots of tips for eating on a budget but truth be told, buying food in boxes and bags costs more than just real food. If you can, try buying a cow share. 1/4 or 1/8th. Your cost per pound goes way…
  • Congrats - no cringing here. I started this to lose weight too. Just then I saw a list of other benefits a mile long. Keep reading and keep tuning your body and health. Its not about being obsessive or strict - its about making the choices to be healthy. Great work - keep it up.
  • Just means more bacon for me. I won't have to share my grass fed cow either.
  • ^^ excellent point. LDL can be "calculated" and it often wrong depending on equation and trigs as mentioned. Unless you have a subfraction and particle size test - it can be meaningless.
  • WAIT JUST ONE SECOND. (also agree with the comments above but)... Those number are awesome. Your trigs and HDL are the critical ones and they all got even more awesome. The LDL did go up - but I don't see any particle size or lpa - or ldl(c). A higher LDL is easily explainable (and even good) if they are big and fluffy.…
  • ^ this. One of the main reasons the "establishment" doesn't like paleo. There isn't a "product" to go buy. There isn't a company you pay money to - or meetings you have to pay and attend. (yes I know there are people that market product as paleo) BUT, you just need to eat real food. Maybe read a couple books and you are…
