BMR is not some "line in the sand" below which your calorie intake must not fall. AIn fact as soon as you eat less than your TDEE your body does not have enough to survive which is why you lose weight as fat reserves are mobilised and burnt as fuel.

BMR is your TDEE when activity equals zero. There is nothing magical about it. If you eat less calories than your TDEE then your body will not obtain the calories it needs to survive and so it breaks down stored glycogen and fat to generate the extra needed and so you lose weight. If you are active or inactive your TDEE is…

Yes. But part of that fuel will come from metabolised fat reserves so you will lose weight. There's nothing "magical" about your BMR - it is simply your TDEE when activity is zero. People will say "don't eat below your BMR", as if it will not have enough energy to survive. As soon as your calorie intake from food drops…

The 2 days do not have to be consecutive, and if fact it is recommended that you do not fast 2 days in a row. Pick 2 days a week to fast. You can chop and change the fasting days every week.

OK - how about looking at it this way: Somehow you find yourself lost and alone in the middle of the Sahara desert. No water or food. You start walking in the 40°C+ heat. For 2 days. You are now severely dehydrated and in imminent danger of dying. At first you think you are hallucinating when you see what appears to be a…

I was hoping this thread would be a discussion about the relative merits of cooking steaks to different degrees of doneness :(

Yes, in UK salt content is given in grams, and often people enter that value as the sodium level instead of multiplying by 1000 to give mg. The salt content is given often followed by "sodium equivalent" as 1g of salt only contains 0.38 g sodium so that is another source of error.

Great story!

My blue eyes :)

The picture of 5lb fat versus 5lb muscle is not right (in fact a fake). It's a gross exaggeration of the difference.

But (luckily) we are not in a coma BMR = TDEE when activity is zero It is NOT the minimum food intake you need to stay alive unless you have no stored fat. You do NOT go into multiple organ failure and die if you eat below your BMR. It is simply the same as eating below your TDEE when you are active - you start to use…
