Exactly right. A Gala apple, for example, is about 80 calories of great nutrition. I eat several types of fruit several times a day now, but I lmost always eat it in combination with a lean protein - a small piece of skinless chicken breast, a nonfat plain greek yogurt, etc - to lower the glycemic load so that I don't get…

You should be very proud! Who cares what your time is for your first race? If you run the race, you've succeeded. Then you can work on beating your time in your next race.

That is awesome! I've lost less than a third of what you've lost, and it already seems like someone has stretched out my Toyota Corolla. There suddenly seems to be what appears to a wide open space between the steering wheel and my gut. I can't wait to see what it's like when I get to my goal weight.

Great job! (It hurt quite a bit to say that to a Tiger fan!)

Excellent job!

That sounds awesome!

I assume that you're looking at the "fruit at the bottom" or other flavored Greek yogurt. Almost every flavored yogurt, even ones that are nonfat, always have added sugar - usually at least 24 to 27g of sugar - and thus a much higher sugar content than nonfat plain Greek yogurt. Because I'm convinced that added sugar and…

Wow is right! You've done a fantastic job and look great.

A hearty congratulations from Lawrence, KS! You've done a fantastic job!

I thought it was just me and my obsessive compulsive issues, but when I'm climbing large, difficult hills, I count to 100 and then repeat as many times as necessary until I get to the top. It makes me realize that I'm making progress toward the top and that, however large the hill is, it's finite. If I'm on a sidewalk, I…

Does a Minnesotan by birth and heart count? My parents grew up there, I was born in Albert Lea, and have relatives in the Twin Cities, Rochester, Red Wing, etc., and have spent the vast majority of my summers in northern MN - North Shore drive/gunflint Trail/Boundary Waters/Isle Royale. I love Minnesota. But I haven't…

I'm not an expert, but I have done some reading on this issue. The biggest difference, or at least the one that was the most important to me, was the impact on blood sugars. Quick oats are the easiest to digest and thus have a higher glycemic index number and are more likely to cause a blood sugar spike. Standard rolled…

Mine is probably not too surprising - combination of my name and my favorite area - the north woods/canoe area of northern Minnesota and Ontario.

I have always strongly resisted eating 5 or 6 meals per day. I figured I'd consume more calories that way and, perhaps most truthfully, I felt that it was somehow cheating, that I should be able to have the will power to eat 3 meals only, with no "cheating" snacks between meals. So I'd vow not to cheat and ultimately give…

Incredible job! You look fantastic! Thanks for the inspiration! (BTW, I checked out your photography site - excellent!)

I haven't been doing this for 7 months and I'm worried about losing my motivation at that point, too, so I can't speak from experience. But I just read your awesome profile and I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't read it for awhile. If you read it again, I suspect you'll remember what got you motivated in the first…

I hope it doesn't get old reading the same replies, but it's hard to deny that the natural response is "Wow! Great job!"

Fantastic job!

It simply is a calculation of how much you would weigh in 5 weeks if on every day during that period you had the same calorie deficit. It's the same basic calculation that they use to tell you that if you want to lose 2 pounds per week you need a calorie deficit of 1000 cals per day, which they calculate for you given…

Really awesome job! I'm very impressed that you stuck with it for so long - that really is inspirational. Thanks for doing it and for sharing it.

That's fantastic! Great work.

I agree - I can't improve on what has been said. Fantastic post and even better accomplishment. I've been tempted to quit today because of emotional upheaval. Your perserverance for a whole year helps kick me in the butt.

Michael, Thanks for posting. I'm very new to MFP. I've lost and regained weight a bunch of times - but never have been able to keep it up. I can loss weight initially pretty quickly, but I also end up going back to my old ways. At least that's been true in the past. It sounds like you're probably in a similar situation.…

Awesome! I'm just starting out, and your story and success are very helpful and motivating. Thanks!

Hi, my name is Lee. I started myfitnesspal on Monday, May 12. I'm 6/ 1" and weighed almost exactly 300 lbs on Monday (but am down a couple of pounds since then). I should weigh under 185. I'm type 2 diabetic and have high blood pressure. I've lost 40 or 50 pounds on more than one occasion, but have never kept it off. I…
