Also try treating yourself with moderation. I used to keep tiny marshmallows on hand when I want sweets but don't have many cats. Eat one in tiny pieces and slowly and feel good about it. Make it a positive fulfilling experience (and then go do something to get your mind off of more 😜)

I was embarrassed to tell my bf of two years that I was going to start counting calories. I've gained about 12 pounds since meeting him. I had similar thoughts and felt weird and thought he would think it was weird. His response? "Yeah I could eat better too. That's awesome, how can I help?' If you want to bring it up, do,…

I make my own dressing with penzeys spices ranch mix (you can order online if there's no store available). I started doing it about 6 years ago and love it. I use olive oil mayo and buttermilk and sometimes add my own extra spices like paprika or chili powder. 2 tbsp for 57 or so calories! You can also decrease the mayo…

Welcome! I lost about 35 pounds 7 years ago, and over the last 3-4 years put most of it back on. What a bummer. So here I am again, early 30s, realizing my body doesn't want to let go of weight like it did in my mid 20s. Would love to be friends and hopefully help keep each other motivated!

This is everything :)

Hello! I ran my second half in November 2015, with a PR of 2:29. I never thought I'd finish those last 3 miles. They were killer. Back in the summer I was running 10:30-11s, and somehow I've sped up slightly so now I'm in the 9:45-10:15 range. But I slacked off running after my half because of a hurt foot and am just now…

Graduating with my MA next week--but started this journey last summer after my first year of grad school. Happy to make new friends!

Find something active that you love to do (or let's face it, maybe you just don't hate it) and do it 3-4 times a day. Then just start slowly changing your eating habits. I had to do that part REALLY slowly--it was all mental. Skipping eating out at first felt like punishment to me. Now, nearly a year later, eating out…

I'm training for my first marathon in November. Originally signed up to do the half that weekend, but then I've decided I have enough time to train for the full. I was training for a 10 miler that happened this past weekend, but I injured myself in Feb. so did the alternative 4 miler. On now to marathon training with…

Thanks for the feedback! I have been going regularly to Fleet Feet to get fitted for shoes, but as I've lost weight and gotten more used to running etc. my gait keeps slightly changing. Plus the whole hip flexors thing. Essentially my PT and I are trying to erase the need for teenie tiny arch support by strengthening other…

You may also want to try wrapping your foot when you run (and maybe during the day if it bothers you then). A nice figure 8 around the ankle and the arch can provide both compression and a little support..

I recommend starting with the C25K program! There are lots of phone apps. It's an 8 week program that builds you up to jogging 30 minutes straight. You start off with run/walk intervals and by week...5 or so on the third run of the week you turn it into a longer run. The "goal" is to run a 5k by the end, but I know for me…

I've always heard to do this in cold weather as it helps to give the air a little more time to acclimate to your body temperature (or at least closer) before it hits your lungs. Sounds real, but could be pseudo-science. I just breathe however it feels comfortable.

So I'll go ahead and say it, your height, 125 pounds seems like it should be a really good weight. Maybe even on the thinner side of ok. If you were 200 pounds and went to 195 in a week, i'd say sometimes you just have good weeks, water weight, or something like that. But you're already small, and 5 pounds is actually a…

Does it seriously bother no one that every time this pops up in the "recent posts" list it says "question's only" instead of "questions only"?

The basic gist of each of those methods is the same: create a calorie deficit. With MFP, you are supposed to eat back your exercise cals. With the TDEE version, you don't. Assuming that you are counting everything correctly and you aren't at the lowest MFP of 1200, either way should work for you. they should be pretty even…

crystal caves! and balloons. that's old school for ya :)

I've got the Polar FT7--bought it off amazon for $64. Plus you can replace the batteries yourself. Tracks workouts, chest strap, cals burned, etc. I've had mine since July, use it 5-6 times a week, haven't had any issues at all!

fruit sugars aren't bad for you. most people on here use the "sugars" to mean ADDED sugar, not naturally occurring sugar like fruits and veggies have.

I'm training for a half, though I don't know when I'm going to run one. I AM however running a 10 miler in April--getting the mileage in the next couple of weeks, then hopefully working on time!
-
Personally I'd say it sounds like you're eating too little. I've been eating at least 1400 cals/day for 6 months and started out at a lower weight than you. I know that the higher your starting weight, typically the more calories you're allowed to consume and still lose weight. also are you drinking enough water?…

This was a laugh. No one on this thread is going to be able to give you insight into your husband and his comments/thoughts/feelings/rationale. I'm not married. Never have been. Live by myself, march to the beat of my own drum, etc. However, I see both sides of this. Who knows WHY he doesn't want you to be out til 7 three…

oh geez I'm not that stupid. I mean breastfeeding. I know it doesn't always, but sometimes it can affect the ability to breastfeed. Depending on your thoughts on breastfeeding...(logic leads on from there)

Sorry this is going to sound rude. But I don't really mind. I can't believe more people haven't jumped on this wagon. You're only 18?! Dude, someone please back me up on this--you shouldn't be making decisions about things like that when you're 18. For multiple reasons. 1) it's dang expensive. 2) you haven't had kids. Do…

I find that most days aerobic activity suppresses my appetite. I'd recommend trying to eat more calorie-rich foods. not necessarily unhealthy ones, but maybe try some olive oil in foods, avocados, etc. ETA: And nuts! Love nuts. Healthy, full of good fats, and calories :)

I weigh every day. Helps keep me motivated and keeps things in perspective. I keep a chart of daily weight graphed out on top of a 5 day trend (thanks to one of my wonderful friends!). It really helps me. If weighing every day hurts you, don't do it. Otherwise there's no issue with it, just know what you're looking at.

I mean, sure strength training has its benefits, but you make it sound like cardio does nothing. Which is completely untrue. "You run and run and run and don't shed a pound." I've been running and running and running (and eating better) and shed 30 pounds. If I added a good amount of strength training, maybe I would be up…

4 things: 1. Start eating less salt. When you go to a fast food joint--your mouth will HATE you for all the salt they use. If you get used to eating less salt, you notice that it's SO SALTY and changes the taste. 2. Read Fast Food Nation 3. Bank account--so much money used to go to "food on the run." It was ridiculous. I'm…

about 2 minutes. Furthest I've run is 8 miles (during my current half marathon training)
