Menopause is the cruelest joke anyone has ever played on women. I've gained fifty pounds over the last ten years, with thirty coming on in the last five. (I'm 55.) Add a family death to the mix and it's hard to know what really caused the weight gain. Until I realize that the whole 50-pound fat pack came on because I ate…

It sounds like you're getting ready to compete? It's normal. It would happen to me just as it happens to you. Once I got back in and sweat like crazy, everything went back to normal. If you're competing, don't worry about it. If you're NOT competing, stop weighing in daily.

Use the zig-zag approach. It works wonders. One day you're below your goal, next day you're above it. Everything averages out over a one-week period and you're not white-knuckling through the process. Google it if you're nervous about it, but believe me..... it is very, very effective!

Pink Floyd on weights. Latin music and hip/hop when I run/bike.

I'm with ya on that one!

Do you have scientific proof that eating 800 calories one day is very unhealthy?

Three-ring binder. Plastic sheet covers. Pull the page I need and use it in the kitchen. Easy to clean up and put back in the binder. Went through all my magazines and cookbooks and took what I liked, added it to the binder, and then gave the mags/books away. Much easier for me to deal with it. Of course, I have four…

Vegetables! And they are COMPLEX carbohydrates which means they are dang good for you. Avoid the white food (rice, potatoes, bread, pasta) which are empty calories that just cause your blood sugars to spike and all that jazz. Three or four ounces of roasted meat (chicken, pork, fish, beef) and a heaping pile of bright,…

I agree! Along with "conversation" (political junkies will understand), "paradigm", and "team player" for my friends residing in corporate America.

A couple of things here.... if you're using a HRM and you've entered your correct weight, you are definitely getting accurate readings of calories burned. As others said, you can manually enter your calories burned under "weightlifting". I stay on the conservative side of all this stuff and err on the side of caution.…

That is correct. Exercise accounts for only 20% of progress. (Diet is 70% and rest is 10%.) But exercise (especially weights) can do wonders to sculpt that body and transform it from Lump of Clay to Venus de Milo.

I love it. I go to a gym. It's the only place where I can listen to my music as loudly as I want. Where phones and e-mails and text messages can't reach me. Where I can go without having to get dressed up. Where I can sweat and stink and nobody gives a rip. Where I have miles and miles of mirrors wherein to look at myself.…

Food that is white in color. Potatoes, peeled, and sugar are the cleanest foods out there.

Found it. Never mind. :-)

And remember to "save". I think you have to save the entry.

I'm not an ultra marathoner. I only run the little 26.2 marathons. Only have 24 under my belt. Deplete the body of carbs and fat will be the source of fuel. It takes time and training to get to this point. Replace sports drinks with water and Nuun or salt tablets, and you'll be fine. Run slow and avoid the lactate…

I rely on the Harris-Benedict studies. At 54 years of age, female, 5'6", lightly active, the right amount of calories I need to consume to lose 1 to 1.5 pounds per week is approximately 1228. As we age, our metabolisms slow down. It's science.

Your target range will most definitely increase as you become more fit. Stick with it. It will happen quickly. Running is a sport of diminishing returns.

Glycogen in the liver is not easily accessible. In the first twenty minutes, you burn the glycogen in the blood stream. Beyond that, your body is using fat for fuel. If the scientific community has come up with a new study, I am not aware of it.

You are most welcome! :-)

Your Polar is telling you what the 65 to 80% range is of your MHR (maximum heart rate). When you go over 80%, you are in the anaerobic state. This is not a sustainable zone and in the world of sports, sprinters are the best example of anaerobic activity. If you stay within 65 to 80%, you can sustain that for hours and…

Hi, thanks for the add. I eat about 1200 calories a day, too. Usually less as I am not hungry enough to eat more than I do. My food is nutrient dense and I'd rather eat 1200 calories of nutrient-dense food than add another 300 calories of whatever just to get to 1500. To answer your question, the idea of grazing is that…

Dang! And I thought I was kicking butt with a goal of losing 54 pounds over the next twelve months. I don't wanna rush it. The journey is quite wonderful and the transformation quite fascinating. Venus de Milo wasn't chiseled out overnight, and this Diva won't be either. *wink*
