I learned how to fly a plane before I learned how to drive a car

This is the best advice so far. I mean the idea of doing something different. It may seem counterintuitive but it works. Yes you can cut enough calories by consumption or burn to bust through this but it would take almost superhuman effort and one that would be very difficult to sustain. Our bodies are brilliant at…

In Houston there is a small chain of stores called "On the Run". Considered one of the best in the country. You are lucky.

Actually just the opposite in my experience. Read up on Intermittent Fasting (IF for short). I changed from my 5 cute little protein packed meals to 2 FEASTS a day and my weight dropped and my energy levels zoomed. This was also done by consuming more calories than I did with my 5 little meals. The key though is to…

Running is all about conditioning. Mind and body. Just like having a good running pace your conditioning pace is important as well. As already suggested, the C25K program is a great start as is good running shoes fitted for you by a good 'Runner's store' professional. When you get past what I would call base conditioning…

A chin up bar, kettlebell and running shoes. I HATE gyms. PS: I have sandbags from 40-150 pounds that I use for some strength stuff.

I exercise every day but consider my 2 days of strength training as active rest for my long run days. I don't think it is crucial to exercise every day. I only do so because I enjoy it and it helps me to be more mindful of what and when I eat. A lot of this though depends on what program you are doing. There is no one…

I loved my Garmin Forerunner 610 until it crapped out. I now use a Timex Ironman GPS watch. There are features on the Garmin I miss such as personalized workouts and vibration alarms when its time to run or walk or pick up the pace. But, the Garmin was only water resistant and I can swim with the Timex and its much cheaper…

This could be a lot of things. (medications, hypoglycemia, malnutrition, low salt, pregnancy, overexertion, too much food in the stomach, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, etc). My guess would be that you are running faster than a conversational pace and just need to dial it back. But, this seems unusual to me and I…

This^^^ Most people who do squats do it wrong. Your flexibility is an asset and I'm officially jealous

Just have a good time. You look fine. If anyone says different dump them.

Actually you bring up an excellent point. Running will definitely raise your appetite. Sometimes the increase in appetite does not dovetail with your actually running calories burned. This usually is during your 'ramping up' stage when you are building up mileage endurance. Once that settles and you are then increasing…

Its highly individual and what your schedule and energy levels allow. What's most important is that whatever you schedule that you are able to stick to it. Sometimes combining the two can cause a net result of not doing enough of one or the other to your satisfaction. Where, separating the two helps you to get a maximum…

Its all about balance. Too much of anything, even fruit, can start giving us diminishing returns. Now who defines what is too much is obviously an individual choice and decision. Sometimes 'too much' fruit can overstimulate the appetite. (glycemic index and all) That's probably the only neg I would watch out for.

No. But I am addicted to workouts- does that count?

I weigh every day. This helps me to observe and become more aware of usual weight fluctuations and the reason for them better like when I've had too much sodium, etc. But, I only chart my Sunday AM weigh ins. I think the more data observations you have the better- as long as you can handle it and take it all in…

One thing that will immediately help. Stop calling it jogging and call it running. This small distinction can make a difference in your confidence. Say it; "I'm a runner" "I run". There are no rules saying reaching a certain speed is not running. Then have a planned gradual approach and listen to your body, hydrate, warm…

Three factors some to mind; 1) They didn't make a lifestyle change. 2) They didn't inspire people to follow them 3) they are not incorporating new things to keep things exciting (ex; running a road race, teaching a class, starting a new routine, starting a new sporting hobby, etc.) and get in a rut. We never stay in ruts.…

OK. I have been able since 1-1-13 to lose 10 pounds by keeping my calorie intake and exercise routine 100% the same and the ONLY change I made was to eat between 12noon-8PM only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays,Saturdays, Sundays and between 4PM-8PM on Monday's and Fridays. My energy levels are the same if not better. My…

I agree with the specialty running stores but I would also try to go to more than one in order to get comparative opinions. There are a lot of shoe models that would be 'good' for you but there is a possibility that only 1 or 2 models are out there that will be the best for you.

I totally agree but there are militant defenders of diet sodas on this forum, some who put credentials with their posts that objectively offer no additional credibility to their opinions, and they will fight back to these types of statements, lol. I instead often say that there are better choices out there then regular or…

As long as you remain fairly injury free and know how to manage and recover when you get an injury I would say do it if you desire it. Just don't get in a state of denial of something blows out. This is very easy to do. All runners can relate.

I like to use sedentary then add the exercise calories as I do it. Others like to build in active, etc and it seems to help them to be 'commited' to doing their exercises. Its all down to personal preference.

Omron is built very well. I have not tried a Fitbit. But I gave my pedometer away when I started running and now use a GPS based watch with heart monitor.

LOL, a heel lift is not an orthotic! If it was then any shoe would be considered an orthotic as they all have different heel levels. You obviously would not weight train if you were in so much pain you couldn't walk. But, if you can walk and your pain is only when you run then this exercise will speed your recovery. At…

A lot of good info here. Here is my plan of attack (some if not all already mentioned)- in order of priority: First; active recovery; Sub walking for a few days until the pain subsides; ice, elevate 1) Suspect your shoes and determine if you need new ones. That fit better and/or made for your gait and foot. 2) Tie some…

After experimenting with Goretex Active and eVent (waterproof but very breathable's) I have realized that they just are not breathable enough during a serious run. What works best for me in cold wet weather is a soft shell running jacket (I use Gore Bike Wear) that is windproof and a Merino wool underlayer. So, unless its…

I just can't stay in my bad mood around those giddy Zumba people, LOL Before you know it those Zumba people either have me smiling or cracking up- dang it! TRX are suspension straps where you use your body weight to do all sorts of exercises- all core all the time, lol. They are great. I have a set but use them at home-…
