  • I have a medical condition which means working out is a terrible idea for me. Sometimes I can't even manage walking around the supermarket. Kills me, because I love exercise. But the point is, if I stick to a calorie limit then I can lose weight. No, I'm not getting fit or building muscle and I'm probably not just losing…
  • We have Aldi in the UK. It's branded as a budget supermarket and in my experience, you get what you pay for. An awful lot of the things they sell (here, in any case) come under the heading of unhealthy junk food. My boyfriend buys chocolate there (knock-off Mars, Snickers and Twix, usually) - smaller than the real thing…
  • I find this very encouraging. I want to start lifting properly, but only have a cheap ball (bright pink, too... nice), a pull-up bar that hooks onto the doorframe and the promise of my boyfriend's old adjustable dumbbells, when he gets them back from someone he lent them to. I haven't the money to even buy myself…
  • 45 minutes of Pilates on the reformer.
  • As a quick 3-minute starter, this will help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwVzamFR-tg Make sure you squeeze your cheeks - like she says, imagine you have a penny between them and squeeze 'em! If you can do it twice in a row you'll have done a fab butt workout! If you search 'blogilates butt' on YouTube, you'll see she…
  • I don't have lupus or FM, but I do have ME, which carries a lot of the same symptoms. It often makes me feel inadequate that I can't exercise the way I see and read about other people doing. When I've tried to do that in the past, I've ended up making myself a lot worse and taking a long time to recover. Now I just do…
  • Shock Absorber saved me a lot of pain and discomfort when I started running. They do different levels of support depending on your size and the level of activity you'll be doing. I wouldn't be without mine now.
  • No. I don't have children of my own. I don't think I want children of my own, so to take on someone else's... No. I wouldn't even consider starting a relationship with someone who had kids, full custody or not. I have friends who've been in relationships with people who had children from previous relationships. Not one of…
  • I prefer to steam mine. Retains more of the nutrients and I prefer the texture. I like my veg lightly done. My boyfriend likes his boiled and really well done. I always feel guilty if I do that, or steam something in the microwave, because I'm taking nutrients out of them. I like peppers roasted or stir fried, depending on…
  • That sounds really, really tasty!
  • I don't ride a bike, but I've always thought that wearing a helmet was the best thing you could do for your own safety. My boyfriend came off his bike about three years ago. Had he been wearing a helmet, he wouldn't have injured his head and been taken to hospital. No one would have known he'd ruptured his spleen - he'd…
  • Pizza Hut have calories on their menus now. It really, really put me off having a dessert last time I was in there.
  • I want to look at myself and think 'I'm ok with how I look'.
  • Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna sounds amazing. Having seen that, I'm blind to the rest of the menu!
  • I won't give up anything. If I have to make myself miserable to get to my goal, it's not worth it. I still drink alcohol. A lot of my social activities revolve around the pub - it's just where we meet up and talk. But if everyone else is drinking, I'm miserable as sin with a glass of lemonade, so I'll have my beer. I still…
  • I air pop my own and although I have issues with whether the '1 cup' is popped or unpopped (I hate doing things by volume), the calories are still nice and low. I'm also lucky that I can't eat loads in one sitting before I get full or bored with it.
  • Herbs and spices. I track chutney in sandwiches, but not mustard. I'm one of those 'scrape it on and scrape half back off' people, so with such a translucent layer of mustard there can't be many calories going onto the sandwich!
  • I'm 5'11" and, like you, most of my friends are around 5'5" - sometimes I can't help but feel like a clunky giant! Since I was about 10, I've been bigger than everyone else. I was a little rake when I was younger, because I was always ill. They fixed the problem and I not only shot up in height but in weight, too. I've…
  • I hide it from my family. I'm sure they can see that I'm overweight, but if they knew I was weighing, measuring and logging everything they would really not approve. When I lived with my parents, I couldn't do things like that. I'd get told off and made to feel like I was being obsessive. I'd start to believe that I was…
  • That was brilliant to read. Congratulations on everything you've achieved so far!
  • I've got pasta with veg (leftover broccoli and a little asparagus from last night and some nice peppadew spicy peppers). Might melt a bit of mascarpone on top. Not thrilling, but the leftovers need to be eaten.
  • I have no problem with using real sugar. I don't take it in hot drinks, I don't put it on cereal. I only use it in cooking, really. I don't drink diet drinks because they make me feel ill - I suspect that has something to do with the artificial sweeteners used. But really, used sensibly, I'm ok with sugar.
  • From about Jan-July this year, I was having a thick slab of toast and two little packs of butter from the canteen in work. Every morning. I knew I shouldn't, but did it anyway. I was also eating sandwiches or baguettes for lunch most days, eating crisps at least once a day. Because I was exhausted from working, I wouldn't…
  • Maybe upper body kickboxing moves are an option. You could do those whilst seated and still get your heart rate right up. In one of the Jillian Michaels DVDs (possibly 30DS), she has a cardio segment that is just boxing. It's done whilst in a squat, but I don't see why you couldn't just sit to do it. YouTube is bound to…
  • Just the name of that website makes me happy! I love avocado. Now to spend a happy half hour browsing those recipes. Thank you for sharing!
  • Well said. Too often I read about it as the ultimate goal in being skinny. Surely it's better to be a healthy weight and have thighs that touch? I don't have a thigh gap and I don't want one. I know it wouldn't look right on me.
  • Don't laugh. Musicals. Ok, you can laugh. But if I'm listening to the cast recording of a musical, I'm not thinking so much about the ouch.
  • Yes! I really want a pair of Blogilates yoga pants, so when I've lost a stone (and if I have the money), I'm going to treat myself to those. When I hit my goal weight (2st away at the moment), my boyfriend is going to buy me a dress. Yay!
  • I have an awesome little scale that I bought last year for baking. I weigh everything. I measure out my liquids with a measuring jug. It gets me funny looks, the occasional comment that I'm being silly. I don't care too much - I like to know that I'm eating the right portion sizes.
