  • Jimmy said he's not going to reveal his menu because it's just fat... mainly fat. I think I am wanting to test my blood ketones to know when I am in *nutritional* ketosis. Not just ketosis. I also am a Math teacher and I am a HUGE stickler for numbers. I'm really considering this... I know the strips are expensive... so I…
  • I went off LC (why do i do that to myself!?) and gained about 10 lbs. I went back on and scale kept going up the first 5 days. But then I read about how Jimmy Moore found out eating more fat and less PROTEIN helped. So I ate tons and tons of fat and cut back a little on protein. The scale started to drop. Some of us are…
  • HAHA on my typo. Love it. I was wondering if anyone tests their blood ketones? I was thinking that the second week in January (when I am back from a vacation), that I might start doing a little experiment. I'm on the fence about it.
  • Msg me! :) I'll tell you all about it!
  • Well, I "cheated" not because I wanted crappy foods, but because my body was showing side effects of low carbing too low. I should have just added a bit back, but I went kinda whole hog. But all those symptoms (some kinda scary) went away after carbing up. Yesterday I was 1 lb away from the pre-cheat weight. You guys are…
  • Those two latter items totally happened to me! (Praxis and I talked about it already) - I don't know Dukan.... and I don't do Atkins. However, I eat lots of nuts and plenty of dairy with my meats... and I lose. I do under 50 net a day and I can't even get to that - it's usually 30 or under. (which is actually not good for…
  • I know this isn't a recipe... but I mix them into almond or peanut butter and eat them that way - it's filling!
  • You had no side effects? Lucky you! I did that for 4 months and had dry eyes, hormonal issues, bruises and leg cramping. Ate crabs for a weekend and all of it went away. Now I am trying to get my carbs as high as I can and still stay in ketosis. I wish I just knew the magic number :(
  • Finally! Someone else who has the same issue! Did you find it hard to up the carbs? I tend to love nuts and peanut butter... I don't like fruit (never really have that much) - what kinds of foods did you add in?
  • I have been netting below 30 usually for four months... My eyes dried out, womanly issues are getting worse... etc. I just ate a load of carbs for a few days and lo and behold! Most of the issues cleared up! (But I also feel like crap!) It's no joke that you have to up those carbs... Sometimes it's so hard when you're so…
  • I read a few things online about the whole cortisol thing... could it be from eating crappy low carb foods - like low carb tortillas? or does it happen no matter what? Could it happen more if we eat too much protein and not enough fat and we have to keep converting the protein to get energy? I would love to know more about…
  • Uh, I used to eat 1600 on low fat and now I eat 2000 on low carb. I would be starving if I were you and I am 5 ft 9 and weigh 155! If you're in ketosis and hungry - EAT IT UP! It won't hurt... at least it hasn't for me?
  • I am SUPER interested in this!! I had no idea it raised cortisol!
  • if you're on a calorie restricted diet, then I see no harm in eating 100-150 carbs and eating the rest as fat (although some protein helps). From what I read when you eat saturated fat and you are living off of glucose (carbs) - it does harm. But when you're running in keto (off of fat), it no longer matters as you end up…
  • This happened to me when I did a cheat day about 2 months ago!! crazy!
  • I would say that unless you're in ketosis, wouldn't that extra fat become fat? I always worry about getting out of ketosis and eating high fat - but I could be wrong here....
  • Cramer - you are cracking me up! I hear you about a one size doesn't fit all approach. I think that's why it's so hard to tell people how to eat, etc. We gotta realize not everyone is the same. I may be able to woof down 3000 mg of salt a day... but someone else may bloat up on that. Although, the bloat is related to the…
  • You know what i got for the first time last month? TONSIL STONES! It felt the same way - something in the back of my throat. i went to look and there was a HUGE one (even the doc said it was huge) back there in all it's glory. I gargled with salt water for two days and it went away. (Gross, that means I swallowed it!) But…
  • Agreed! I try to eat as much as possible.... because if I don't, I get a headache. From what I have learned - if salt isn't hurting you right now, i.e. you don't have issues with salt, then you don't have to worry about eating too much of it. But then again, my Dad and I have a funny way of needed more than the usual…
  • Honestly, they gave me new contacts in June... Maybe these just suck? i also formed one of those little bumps in my eye - forget what they're called - they're from sun damage? So maybe it's nudging my contact. But that night bot being able to read a book was NUTS! But it's only happened a few times. What's weird is it's…
  • You're not complimenting me here NY. I'm 33. :) BUT! I can see this being something that is possible! :)
  • Interesting. I was never diabetic, but I think I always came in at normal-high when they tested my fasting glucose. But I am sure with low carb there's no way it's at that number now. It would be nice to see straight though... that thing where I couldn't read the book only lasted for one night - thank goodness!
  • You could always try this... but if you restrict yourself to where you're always hungry then I would advise against it. But then again, I'm not a doctor either :) haha! I know I am 5 foot 9 and I do workout 3 times or so a week at an intense level and I eat 2000 a day. I'm also a teacher and on my feet most of the day,…
  • From what I have found, you do not have to watch your calories while on a low carb diet. I once ate 1600 calories on low fat and lost nothing for months on end. Once I switched to low carb, I eat 2000+ calories a day and lose still. I've read from a lot of other people, too, that they no longer count calories. With that…
  • Interesting thread. When I cut down my carbs, I didn't do Atkins, but I went 20g a day. I always ate nuts - almonds and pecans. Never had a problem getting into ketosis One serving of almonds is 2 net carbs and is filling... I wonder why Atkins has it on the no no list? Interesting!
  • I have only had the eye trouble and not the saliva trouble... but I also chew sugarfree gum like it's going out of style! So we count the total, not the net, huh? That makes me feel better. I had about 60ish yesterday total, but around 30 net. I TOTALLY get the same way when I eat too many carbs: Binge central! What…
  • Another link to a grocery list: http://www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com/low-carb-grocery-list.html
  • The pills: Fiber is a carb, so if it has am amount of fiber, it has that amount of carb, but you get to subtract it. So don't count it again (like the above poster said). I'll also ditto that ground flax will get your fiber in. I use it in the Muffin in a Minute - see thread on main page - and that gives me a fiber boost.…
  • I eat almost an entire one a day!! Great for fiber and the potassium! I struggle big time with potassium.... so they are perfect!
  • Purple - Mine got drier, too. read about safe starches and mucus. I guess some of us will have a lower production of mucus because of our reduction of carbs. What freaked me out is that it can lead to gut cancers. So I added back a little sweet potato... Although they say to eat 50 g of it a day and I just can't seem to…
