  • I don't want to dismiss your concern, but you do realize both of those are compliments, in teenager-speak. Something really good is "sick" and if you're great at something, you're "beast!" That doesn't mean it's polite to yell things out of cars, but neither of those is an insult.
  • Yes. I walked one, just to support a friend of mine and to get my butt off the couch. That was two years ago. Last year, I did 5, I think, and this year I've already done one 5k and a half-marathon, and I'll probably do at least two, maybe three more! I'm still not a runner (I jog/walk) but I LOVE the atmosphere of the…
  • Are you kidding me? Let's imagine that this were a man, who was saying, "My wife is 5'5" and weighs 180 lbs. I told her I don't find her attractive, but that I will again if she loses 10 lbs." The OP is getting off easy.

  • This is perhaps the funniest thing I've ever heard!
  • Really, I'd just set myself as "active" (if your dept is like my husband's, you're training every day if you're not actually fighting fires), and eat a little more daily. You will need more calories than someone who is lightly active, but trying to calculate the actual per fire burn! :-)
  • I like your style.
  • I wish I were immune. I have one beautiful son (6) who we adopted, after years of infertility. My husband has older kids (21 and 25, so MUCH older) and if I had a dime for every old biddie who told me that he needed a sibling close in age, I'd be able to afford to adopt again. Ideally, I'd have liked one more, either…
  • That's me. I'm usually the only women doing strength training, so I sure as hell don't want to call attention to my 40-year-old just-getting-back-in-shape self. Plus, I'm a teacher; I can't have my students/former students seeing me in my underwear!
  • I'd get a doctor's excuse. If your school food is fairly typical, I don't think you'd be hard-pressed to find a doctor who said, for example, that you had to limit sodium or something.
  • ] I get this, though my mom's not the instigator. But it took me to 40 years old to realize that I don't have to play. My brother openly mocked us one time for the silliness of the argument we were having, and while I was furious at his conceited attitude (and my other brother has passed away, so he's lost his sparring…

  • I get the sister thing, and I say say nothing. If your mother is being immature about it, that's on her. When your sister calls you about it, you just say, "I'm just focusing on getting healthier," and change the subject. It's hard to drop out of the competitive thing, but it's really healthier. Believe me. Edit: I get the…

  • You're being deliberately obtuse. How about having fruit every day. Cheese. Milk. A slice of toast on occasion. Beans--you CANNOT TAKE AWAY MY BEANS. I know you'd argue that these aren't "good." And my vegan friends would argue that meat is killing you and isn't "good". So much of the dietary advice on this board is more…
  • 42, and have to get my driver's license renewed soon; I think I now do weigh less than it says, too, but I'm working on MUCH less. Feeling better than I ever have!
  • So you're suggesting that if your body naturally builds muscle, it's healthier to lose muscle to be a "healthy" weight than to lose fat and be "overweight"?
