Bump! I just got back from a run, and was thinking about this topic the entire time :).

Bump! This is entertaining.

If you're gaining weight and BF% without a change in measurements, my guess is that you're underestimating your calorie intake and overestimating your calorie burn. Especially when it comes to heavy lifting, your HR monitor may not be accurate. HR monitors are really built for cardio activity, not weights. So if you're…

My current pet peeve is that I'm friends with other people trying to lose weight, who do not log their foods or have any idea of how many calories they're eating. And then when we try to motivate each other, they'll say things like, "OK no more bleu cheese wedge salads! Those are not a good choice", after that's what I…

@violetta and @lilac - thank you! @tsd - that's very good to hear! It really sounds like choosing the right seamstress can make all the difference! @kathendo - thanks for the add, and congrats!!
-
@alcon- I just heard about Chinese New Years today as well. Really good to know! Congrats on your engagement!
-
@lavie - thank you! you look beautiful in your dress!

Thank you all for the great feedback!!! I truly appreciate it.

@snikkee and @daisie -- wow, thanks for sharing these stories! I will definitely order my size at the time of the fitting and let them take it in, vs. ordering a smaller size! @hark - you look beautiful in your wedding dress! Good idea on calling the store -- there seems to be a lot of variation on the length of time…
-
@Snikkee -- good advice! Out of curiosity - what happened to the dress you bought too small?
-
@Annin - I've heard those kinds of stories as well! Something to keep in mind. @Willards - You make a great point about asking the sales associate about which types of dresses will be easy to alter. This is the shape I'm going for, so I'm hoping it won't be as difficult to take in as, say, a tight mermaid style:…

Kelli - that is very helpful! Thank you!! It's taken me 6 months to lose 22 pounds, so your point about being setting realistic goals next year is well taken :). I will definitely look at my measurements to determine where I'm losing the most inches -- great tip.

If I think someone is shy or uncomfortable talking about their weight, I'll usually just say, "You look great!" and leave it at that. That statement could mean so many things, including "you look happy!" or "great haircut" or "your outfit is cute" OR "you've lost a ton of weight!".

Keep in mind that most digital scales store the last recorded weight in memory and don't change it unless the next weigh-in is different by a certain amount (might be a half pound, but varies from scale to scale). When I weigh myself, I first step on the scale with a 5 or 10 lb weight to recalibrate the scale's memory.…

Great post! This is a really interesting and insightful discussion.

That's a tough situation. I would sit her down and let her know that you are making a commitment to yourself to get healthier, and to have her support in the process would mean the world to you. Focus the conversation on how YOU want to make a healthy lifestyle change and you need the support of your best friend to do it,…

I absolutely struggle with this, as well. It's relaxing to have a glass of wine while cooking, after a long day of work. But I found myself doing that EVERY night. Now, I look at it as a treat. Sometimes I pour sparkling, flavored water in a wine glass instead... it sort of tricks my brain into thinking I'm indulging in my…

Mexican food - once I load up on chips and salsa, something triggers in my brain that says, "well, I might as well order a margarita and cheese enchiladas!" Pizza "Party food" - IE chips and any kind of dip, cheese/crackers, etc. Ice cream out of the carton Chinese food

Such an inspirational story. You look great. Congrats!!!

I absolutely LOVE Cabot reduced fat cheese snacks. Only 50 calories, and I think they're tastier (and cheaper!) than babybels. A couple of Morningstar veggie buffalo chicken wings are always tasty and filling, too. But my new favorite is a fuji apple sliced with lite laughing cow (original) spread over it.

Great challenge! My biggest struggle will be with sugar. I don't even have much of a sweet tooth, and yet I exceed my sugar macros nearly every day. Looking forward to burning 3,500 calories this week though!!! I'm hoping to hit around 800 or so tonight... I have a free personal training session. GO TEAM!

Quinoa!! I eat this in place of rice and pasta now. I make a big batch of it on Sunday, and use it in lunches and dinners throughout the week.
