Discipline and consistency over motivation

Hi five! You're doing great!
-
IF doesn't work if you're not in a calorie deficit. Are you still weighing all of your food with a scale and eating at the calorie limit that MFP set for you?
-
Plan all of your meals and snacks around protein. Protein first then the rest. I don't worry too much about carbs and fat as long as I hit protein and my calorie goal. Breakfast is usually oatmeal and some type of fruit or if I'm in a rush, a protein bar Lunch is usually chicken, veggie and Greek yogurt Snacks can include…

This happened to my husband's coworker and his doctor told him to start eating meat. His body is much healthier now. I'm glad you're getting checked out by the doctor. Let us know what he/she says.

I think its a great idea. If it's working then keep doing it.

Make your own entry and measure in grams for more accuracy
-
That is correct. Unless you are a mail carrier, work in construction, etc, you should be lightly active to sedentary. However, this is one calculator that is meant for all people. Not everyone is going to be the same. That's why its up to you to adjust your calorie intake as you see fit. It's not that the calculator is…

You'll know it when you see it in the mirror

Goodness. I sometimes have problems hitting 1400 for the entire day. I'd love to see what you eat for dinner so I can drool over it :D
-
I hit my calorie goal, then my protein. Carbs and fats fall where they may. I don't really give them much thought as long as I'm getting all my protein and staying under calories.

I seemed to have lost all of my weight in my legs. My legs!!! What a bummer. Now they're really thin but I still have the back fat that will. Not. Go. Away. :D It is what it is, I guess

#3 - There will be days you will go over. Unexpected dinner with friends or family. Work lunch, etc. Just make sure you get back to it the next day. But don't be so rigid that you absolutely, positively can't go over your calorie goal. It will happen occasionally. Don't let it derail you.

We are allowed to disagree. That's what the forums are for. The fact that you want to silence people with different perspectives is disheartening and dangerous.

I would advise against trusting your Garmin or any other calorie burning watch. The best thing to do is set your calories and stick to them. If you haven't lost after a month of honest tracking and logging (and weighing your food yourself--not going by the entries already in MFP) then lower by 100 calories. Keep doing this…

Someone once told me something that I later discovered to be very true: You have more weight to lose than you think and its going to take longer than you think. Don't assign an I-want-to-weigh-this-much-by-this-date deadline. Take the time to break old habits and instill new habits. Once you have that down, things will…

Very true. It is the bases of MFP and many people have had success with it. You are right. However, I still disagree with using exercise as a reward to eat more :D BUT....if it works for you (or anyone else), then go for it.
-
I just spent way longer than I should have watching videos on how to make savory oatmeal. I can't wait to try it
-
Keep weighing yourself and logging the data. Eventually you will have enough data to see your trends. I know my trends now and I don't freak if the scale is up 3lbs. Typically I know why and I know it will go back down if I stay focused and consistent.

Your diet is to lose weight/gain weight/maintain weight. Exercise is for gaining muscle/retaining muscle/heart health. They are two separate things. Exercising to burn calories so you can eat more is a path I don't recommend anyone walking down. Then exercise comes as a form of punishment because you ate too much, or…

My daughter has one and uses it daily. I've been debating whether to get one. She cooks almost exclusively vegetables in hers. She makes carrot fries that are so good and so healthy.
-
The only thing that has helped me is strength training. I am virtually pain free and I used to walk around like I was 80! :D
-
This is not physically possible. And muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. PO, like cheryldumais said, you're eating more than you think. Weigh and log everything. Don't rely on the entries in MFP, because they're notoriously wrong. Enter your own foods. Don't go by what the app is telling you you burned, those are always…

I agree with the farmer's walk. Love that exercise. I'll add face pulls, upright rows and rowing machines

Like the commenter above me I'm not single but my husband and I work opposite shifts too so I eat alone most nights. I don't cook from-scratch meals for myself, but rather stock my kitchen with easy grabs. My go-to is an egg omelet with goat cheese--filling and packed with protein. Or I will pop a veggie burger in the…

I'm so glad to see a detailed post like this. I had my thyroid removed last December after YEARS of being hyper. My biggest fear was gaining weight because I'd worked so hard to lose it. I did a lot of research. I whole lot of research. I managed to wade through the fluff and scare tactics to find the real research and…

For most people the stomach is the last place to lose. I lose in my legs first--very frustrating. But it is what it is. As for the flabby skin, that's based on genetics. Some people's skin will snap back nice and tight, others not. Yours may not snap back. People have had to have skin removal surgery to get rid of loose…

As long as you're not eating over your calories in your non-fasted hours it will work. Its still all about CICO. Fasting is just another way to control calories in, but you still have to watch your calories.
-
If they ask you specifically what you are doing to lose then mention the site. Otherwise, let it be. You do you and let them do their thing in their own time.

I have arthritis. I've already had a hip replaced at age 47, my other hip will need to be replaced. I have arthritis in my lower back that they can't do anything about. I am strict low impact per my doctor. The treadmill (walking, not running), the elliptical and the rower are my go-to favorites for cardio. I started…
